Had my Mirena IUD removed

Had it removed 4 weeks ago exactly due to terrible problems from it. I wont post my story unless you want to know. Last week I had pain on my left ovary and today pain on my right. Its almost like a pinching feeling. Leads me to believe it (they) are cysts. When I normally am not on BC I have 28 day cycle. But not sure what to think since just having the IUD removed. Anyone have experience with this ?

i honestly feel obligated as a woman to share my mirena experience with anyone considering having this foreign object placed inside their uterus.  i am a 31 year old mother of a 15 month old and i have Hepatitis C.  i asked my doctor what the side effects were and he literally told me "none".  i also asked him if the hormones would affect my liver at all because of my HepC. he said that it was perfectly safe.  i had my mirena placed in August of 2009. i immediately went for a ride on a hormone rollercoaster.  that lasted about a month or less and i thought that the worst was over. i was WRONG. i started experiencing a number of symptoms that all seemed to be unrelated: heart palpatations, dizzziness, constant and unbearable sciatic nerve problems, eczema, ovarian cysts, back acne, bloating, gas, fatigue, irritability and anger, zero sex drive, hair loss....     i was seeing a PCP, a dermatologist, a gynocologist and a chiropractor. i bled everyday since i had gotten mirena---not like a period, but enough that it was a nuisance.  i spoke with my gynocologist on several occassions about my symptoms and he assured me that because the hormone is released directly into the uterus and not at all into the blood stream, none of it was related to the mirena and scheduled me for laproscopy to remove the cysts.  he even suggested that maybe i was imaging it!  after several months of bleeding, doctor's appointments, bloodwork, heart monitoring and ultrasounds i had finally had enough and decided to see for myself if it was in fact the mirena.  i had the damn thing removed in April 2010. some of my symptoms immediately vanished: the constant bleeding, bloating, gas, back pain and dizziness.  the rest of the symptoms vanished over a period of about a month except for one: extreme fatigue.  as it turns out my liver enzymes, which had been stable for six years, are elevated to the point that it is now reccommended that i start interfuron treatment. just today i read on the mirena website that mirena is NOT APPROPRIATE FOR WOMEN WITH LIVER DISEASE.  i wish i had done my homework before having mirena placed. It was a nightmare that could have been avoided. and unfortunately some of the damage cannot be reversed.

I thought I was crazy all! Thank you for this website...no one will beleive me for past 5 years I have been dealing with hair loss, extreme moody and panic, major weight gain, acne and face rashes, pelvic pain, heart palpatations and pain, depressed and tired.  I was never ever heavy, always bounce back after each pregnancy and was actually thinnest with my last child (third)....got Mirena after OB told me there was not any hormones in it!  LIE!  Long stiry short, I got it out 1 year later after Dr. put me on all sorts of drugs thinking it was not related to the iud, and finally made the choice to get it out on my own by gut feeling....4 years later I am still overweight and work out 5 days a wk with spin/ yoga, eat most organic and whole grain/ healthy, plus keeping up a family of 5 and 2 dogs.  I am just stuck on what to do next!  I have done cleanses and teas and take care of myself.  Any other ideas on what to do?  I went to the Dr. and they laugh and try to send me to a nutritionist and tell me it's a calorie restriction....nooooooo it's not.  After reading through this I know I am not alone after 5 years of being told I was crazy.

My daughter had it inserted 31/2 yrs. ago after the birth of her first child.  She has been so sick for so long and we have not understood what was going on.  Unbearable pain thought to be repeated kidney stones and finally found out that the device has grown into her body and resulted in a terrible infection , and has to wait for the infection to clear up for this awful thing to be removed.  The amount of damage done to my daughters health is absolutely inexcusable because this product should have had further testing for side effects.  Anyone interested in a class action lawsuit just let me know.  My family will be seeking legal help immediately.  If you have this in you,  get it out!!!!!!!!

I have had the Merina IUD for 4 1\2  years and I have never had as many symptoms as you all did.  My symptoms when I am on my menstrual cycle have seemed to get worse over time mostly with migraines. I love having the Merina IUD I don't have to worry about my birth control failing atleast I haven't for the past 4 1\2 yrs but it is soon time to come out, but I will definately be having another one placed in the future.

I have had my mirena in for 2 1/2 years now and thought it was an excellent form of birth control. I started noticing some symtoms such as migraines, acne, fatigue, and harsh cramping/abdomen pains. It felt similiar to being in labor or bad cramps.  I came to the conclusion something is WRONG with me! I thought maybe I had an STD or something. Got tested and it was negative. I also had depression, crying over everything. I cried watching lion king! lol. My boyfriend thought I was just making up sicknesses and i was lazy because i slept so much. I was planning on getting my mirena removed to donate eggs and did a search online about the removal and thats when i came across soooo many other woman with the SAME symtoms! Coincidence? I think not. I was never warned about side effects such as these. Im getting mine removed in 2 days and cant wait!!

Pros- Effective Birth control
Made me have little/no period

Cons- Fatigue
Acne
Constant abdomonal pain
Depression
Migraines- I never had one in my life prior to mirena
