Hard immovable lump in breast, I'm only 24

by boognishlady, May 01, 2007 12:00AM
I got pregnant early Feb. Shortly after finding out, I also found a lump on my right breast. It was small, about the size of a BB and just as hard and did not move at all, even when I tried pushing it around a bit. I spotted on April 2nd, the doctor told me to come in that day, she scheduled an ultrasound the next day and they diagnosed a "missed miscarriage" I had a D&C April 10th. At my first pregnant appointment I mentioned the lump to my midwife, she said we would keep an eye on it and never mentioned it again. After the early ob ultrasound, I was switched to a Doctor and I mentioned the lump to him at my post-op follow up. He felt around on it for quite a while, then said he wanted me to get an ultrasound. I am extremely worried. Not only because it seems like it's raining shi* on me and my last ultrasound showed that my baby died inside of me, but because everything I have read about lumps in your breast tells me that this is not good. The fact that it's so hard and immovable really scares me. The breast ultrasound is this friday, and I'm just scared to death. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if I got cancer, too. First I lose my baby, now this. It just figures. I can't handle this.

hi
please remember that most of us get lumps in the breast sometimes..
2 years ago(i was 29) i felt something and i was TOTALLY freaked out...
i went to see the doctor because when i was doing my self examination exam i wouls feel the same bump.. for me it was not cancer or anything just normal lumps you can get sometimes... trust me on this one i had doubt so when i went to see my gyn for my pap (2 weeks after i saw the other doctor)
i had her check it out also... she took more time to explain to me what was going on.. i dont know maybe because she is a women she understood me and knew what i felt..... but anyways she explained that sometimes when we are due to get periods or when we have them even during ovulation the feeling and texture in the breast could be different so i think that you beeing pregnant at the time (sorry for your lost by the way) your breast could of been having a hormonal difference..do you self breast exam? she told me to always try to do it at the same time during the month....
i hope it helps you but if you still are worried d'ont be shy and GO see another doctor
good luck

Sorry for your loss...
As for the lump, definitely do the follow up - you can never be too cautious when it comes to breast health. I will tell you tho, my mother for her entire 20s and early 30s had breast lumps like the ones you describe and while they had to be surgically removed, they were not concerned to be harmful. (Don't know why she had the removed - I should ask her). Having said that - everyone is different so for your peace of mind, please get it checked out.
