I used "Confirm Clearly" or "Clearly Confirm" ... I forget which it is called now, and I got THREE false positives with this brand (+/-). I contacted the company and demanded my money back because the brand was incredibly unreliable (a little research on google showed me that two men, a neutered dog, and tap water all showed up positive on this brand of pg test). I received my reimbursement check in less than a month and got my REAL BFP this month after using OPK for only one month and ttc for a total of fifteen months.
I wish you the best. Buy a different brand of pg test (i.e. First Response Early Pregnancy Test and Equate are two of the tests that have a tendency to show accurate results the earliest) and test with first morning urine within the next couple of days if af hasn't started.
Best wishes! Keep us updated!
In our office, a positive urine test was always confirmed with a Vag U/S. That day in the office. There was never making the women play a waiting game because the sooner you know the sooner you can begin prenatal care. You can make an appt. with your Gyn and when you go in just let them know you suspect pregnancy. They will test you right away. It's protocol. We tested for pregnancy even if she was there for a possible UTI. You'd be surprised how many women mistake symptoms and are actually pregnant when they just thought they had a bladder infection and a lot that are on BC.
I just hate to see you poor ladies being tortured by having to wait and wonder.
Personally, I think that you can feel safe in assuming that the positive was accurate and the negative was simply not picking up the low Hcg levels yet. False positives are just so rare where false negatives are constant due to the way the tests are designed.
Good luck and I am pretty sure you will be celebrating VERY soon!

False Positive or False Negative is not all that uncommon that's why most tests come in a box of 2. I would suggest waiting a few days and retesting with an EARLY detection pregnancy test, and preferrably a digital one because you don't have to read lines it says pregnant or not pregnant. Pretty easy. Good luck.
I have a short cycle and ovulate early (i.e. ovulate on or about the 7th and have long heavy periods up to 9 days long)...
I think you answered you own question, if the first one read at 25 and the second read at 100, it is possible the second one just couldn't pick up the small amount of hcg in your system. And contrary to the prior posters comment, false positives are quite uncommon and false negatives are usually the result of people testing too early, not a defect in the test design.
Good luck!

sailors wife:
ok so that was what i was thinking and so i went to that web site "pee on a stick"....and it showed that the first one i took was a 25 miu and the second one was a 100miu. so i was thinking the same thing....but i dont know....i want to have another child so bad....and this just feels like a cruel trick...
False positive are usually only common if you have been getting extra hcg shots, some people take this pregnancy hormone to aid in weight loss.
What kind of test was the first one? I had an evap line with the clearblue easy that was REALLY dark. Was it one of the + or - tests?
it was the one with the + sign...but it turned into a + sign within the "three minute" reading time....and then I took one with the lines...and that was the one that was negative
Hmmm...how many days post ovulation are you? Different tests pick up different hcg levels, so maybe you are pg. Wait 2 days and test again. If AF is late or will be at that point, invest in one of the digital tests.
some tests have different amount of hormone levels they detect. so if you tested first with one that tests at 25 you got a positive then one neg that tests at 100 it would be negative if you dont have enough built up yet. maybe,,,,im just guessing.
