Has anyone tried (or heard of) Orlistat?

by Aruba417, May 30, 2006 12:00AM
Hey everyone,

I asked this question on the weight loss forum a few days ago and never got an answer...I guess most people use B-12 for weight loss.

But anyways, my doctor prescribed a drug called Orlistat (Xenical). One of those is the brand name, not too sure which one. It's for weight loss, and it's supposed to keep the body from absorbing fat. I started it on Thursday, and up until Saturday, I had thought maybe she gave me placebos, because I was never getting sick like she said I would if I ate a high fat meal. But anyways, I finally started noticing some side affects, but haven't seen any weight loss. I don't know anyone who's tried it, and I just want to know when I'll start seeing results. I want to lose about 20 lbs, and I'll be happier with my body!!!

I'm not HUMONGUS LOL! But I'm 5'4" and 155 lbs. I used to weigh 120 lbs when I graduated from high school 7 years ago....so it's really hard on me to be "plump". I've always struggled with my weight. When I was 15, I weighed 155 lbs, and then I went on a strict diet and exercise program and by my junior year in high school I weighed 118. I was sooooooooooo happy. I kept it off, too, until after high school. In 2004 I weighed my heaviest at 165 and I was miserable. So I started diet and exercise again and got down to 147 lbs. Then I started gaining again and I find myself here at 155. It gets me really depressed.

But as far as you go, 114 lbs is NOT overweight for someone 5'2"! It's pretty good!!! I would just try and maintain if I were you. Thanks again!

Thanks for your comments! It helps to know that it doesn't work in the fat already in your body. I'm trying to understand the medicine a little better. I've never taken anything like it before.

The only reason I am taking anyting is because I'm getting desperate. I HAVE been watching my portions AND exercising. I have lost 11 lbs doing that...but it's been a year and now I haven't lost anything else. I'm stuck in a rut that might be due to other medications. This was prescribed by my doctor, and I'm using it under her care.
