Headache from Premarin???

I am currently taking Premarin 1.25mg, for the past 4 months or so i have been getting pretty bad headaches, but they were always contributed to something else(i.e meds, infection),well now that those are taken care of, my headache returned about 4 days ago and no amount of excedrin or ibuprofin even touches it, I am thinking i'm going to need to get a stronger med from the dr. Is it possible the headaches are from the premarin? and should i ask to maybe lower the dose or switch meds all together? I have been on the premarin since april 06.

Thanks.

My mum has been on Premarin for almost 30 years. She recently had a blood clot in her lung and is now on Warfarin. She is almost 80 and said that she does have some hot flushes if she doesnt take the Premarin - still!!!! I think her doctors will be making the decision to stop taking Premarin.
And so,cheap price for premarin

Yes it is probably from the Premarin.  I have done my research, and no way would I be on Premarin or Prempro.  In fact, I can't believe they still prescribe it.  Most Canadian doctors don't prescribe it anymore.  It's a cheap price, is about its only good aspect.  These drugs have made billions for the pharm companies as they have been around a long time.
Pregnant Mares Urine.  Pretty much says it all.  NOT at all like a woman's body makes.  Get on a bio identical estrogen patch, your doctor can prescibe that, it's a much safer and better tolerated estrogen, and FDA approved.
Why are you on it?  Do you still have your uterus?  You need bio identical progesterone (NOT synthetic progestin, that too is cr*p) to protect your uterus if you do still have it.
Go to CBS.com, they did a big story on it yesterday, lots of reading.

Thank you, i started with taking the .625mg but i couldnt sleep and the hot flashes were unbearable(nothing like being in the grocery store and having one come on suddenly). Thanks for the advice, now i'm just waiting for 8 am for the dr's office to open, i will give an update in a bit.

I too started Premarin 6.25 after I had the my ovaries removed in July.  I've kind of always had headaches, but yes I think it could be a side effect.  I am considering buying stock in Excedrin since I take about 6 a day!  A prescription for Midrin usually helps with the headaches that OTC medications don't take care of.  However, you really should ask you physician so he/she can rule out other causes.

Best of luck

I have no reproductive organs left, they control my menopause symptoms, i am not doing the prempro, just the premarin, and it's not cheap, i'll tell you that much, but i do get reimbursed. But the dr doesnt think it's from the premarin, otherwise it would have started almost as soon as i started the pills. My bloodpressure was up too, they gave me some migquin, and if it is not gone by tomorrow, i have to go back and they will give me a shot of demerol and other meds to help. I also have to start going in a couple times a week to get my bloodpressure checked, the nurse said it goes up when your in pain, and it was up today, and the last time i went in for the same thing,so they dont think it's high all the time. But we will see.

Hi there,
I don't know what Premarin is, but I was wondering if your headaches might be caused by something unrelated to medicine, like eyesight.  Have you seen an eye doctor for an exam?  Do you already wear glasses?  If no, then it might be worth an eye exam to a least rule that out.
