Thank you for the advice. I have an anxiety disorder that I don't medicate anymore. I try to use more natural methods of dealing because the medications interfere with my work. It used to be very severe, my doctor once said people with my level of anxiety often become shut ins, afraid of the world so I've made a lot of progress, I still have fine tuning to do.
Well, put in your mind the thought that NOT going is bad for your health. The anxiety about THAT may outweigh the anxiety about not going.
It is like any other doctor's appointment. This specialty of doctor handles women's issues all day long so it is really no big deal to them. You will simply be another patient and part of their work day. Nothing is seen as sexual about your female anatomy as it is to a doctor, just another part of the body to make sure is healthy. Periods are something every single woman has and not a big deal.
Try to schedule with a woman doctor and I'd ask our friends who they go to. Then you'll have some 'inside' scoop on who is liked in the community. Then take a deep breath, look up their number and just call without dwelling on it or spending much time. Do it fast and then once the appointment is made --- it is much easier to keep it.
The appointment is such that you do unrobe but you have on a drape. The exam is not that big of a deal and I tell you, doctor's are super fast and efficient. You just look up during the exam and it is over quickly. I promise you . . . it is not that big of a deal.
Do you do anything for your anxiety?
Thank you for the reply. I have actually never been to the gyno (I know, I know) before and the thought scares the living daylights out of me. I have never been good about discussing this kind of thing. Any suggestions on helping the anxiety? Thanks!
Hi there and welcome. Well, I'd schedule yourself for a pap smear and talk to your doctor about this. You could have fibroids, simple cyst, endo, etc. If it is a change, it's worth investigating and your doctor is the best one to discuss it with. good luck
