Help! Swollen,Itchy,slightly red labia majora

I am 18 years old and just started having sex with my boyfriend about a month ago, nothing has bothered me until last week I found out I had a kidney infection and my doctor prescribed me Cipro, i have been taking this for 3 days and now i am noticing that my vaginal area is swollen, itchy, and sort of red....yesterday it was really swollen (2x the normal size) but it has gone down some over night, but is still itchy and red.....does anyone know what the problem could be? I dont have any strange discharge or smells(so i dont think its a yeast infection) and I am on my period if that helps.....plz help!

Welcome to adult sexual hell.  When you are given an antibiotic, it kills ALL bacteria.  Even the good stuff.  You now have a yeast infection.  I take alot of antibiotics and have ongoing yeast infections.  I never have a discharge or bad smell.  Call or go to the doc and they can give you a one-time pill that will make you better.  OR, they sell these (but not as strong) over-the-counter.  Check out Monistat yeast pills at the grocery or drug stores....hope you feel better soon ( and quit scratching!)

It's likely the Cipro has killed off some of the good vaginal bacteria, giving the bad bacteria the edge. Your symptoms could be the result of bacterial vaginosis even if it's not typical. Once you stop the antibiotic your normal bacterial flora may return. If not, you could need other antibiotics to kill off the bad bacteria. Good luck.
