I had a period for 3 months non-stop, very heavy. I went to the doctor and he pretty much told me that there were two choices: A histerectomy or take drugs for the rest of my life. I am afraid that a Histerectomy will adversely affect my sex life. Is there someone outthere that had a histerectomy and had sex drive problems.
I want to know if anyone is aware of any other alternative treatments available?
Also what happens if I don't get the histerectomy done?
hey first of all relax. I had a hysterectomy done about 3 years ago. I feel like my sex life has been better since then. I was having lots of problems..long, painful periods, etc... I feel like once you are finished healing from the surgery you are even more able to relax, you don't have to worry about getting pregnant anymore. I feel so much better than I have ever felt so if your dr is recommending this and you are not sure get a second opinion. It does not hurt to ask lots of questions. I know I did. By the way I am only 34 yrs old now so I had mine a little young. Good luck and God bless you.
Many things affect your sex life, kids, pregnancy, childbirth
It wont necessarly mean your sex life will be affected and Im sure they have products now out there for women (like viagara for men)
You need to do whats best for your health!..Look at all your options.. take care!
i've had a hysterectomy, and my sex drive is the same as before, alot of women are scared if they get their cervix out, the "O" wont be the same..........well 1 things for sure with me anyways the big "O" is waaaaay better.
I just had a vaginal hysterectomy on November 28, 2005 - two months ago. My ovaries were left intact. I'm 44 yrs old. Yes to the person above who didn't want to be dense... the uterus is removed. My cervix was also removed. The reason I'm online searching about this subject is because I AM finding I have absolutely NO sex drive. I have attempted to masterbate to see if I could "jump start" myself. I have an orgasm, but it's not as strong as it once was. I have no desire to have sex, I feel less interest in my work, I'm just tired all the time and feeling low. With what I've been reading tonight on other sites is that hormone replacement therapy (HRT)(testosterone) may be helpful with these types of symptoms. I'm going to call my doctor tomorrow, but for those of you who are wondering what effects you may get, I for one am experiencing a loss in my sex life - that was once very strong. So... I know something's up. I've had 3 children, my child bearing years are over so I'm not experiencing a loss of what could be - another child. I'm done with that, it was one of the reasons I chose this option - having a hysterectomy. I'd appreciate any comments regarding the HRT options and whether they work.
the only thing i can say is im greatfull 4 the operation that saved my life but man i never knew u get so big after wards and that i dont give a rats azz if i ever have sex again omg this isnt the real me i never was heavy or had loss for sex until my hysterectomy 3 yrs ago i bared 4 children and now am 49 yrs old. ok it sounds old n normal for wut is going on with my self to others but to me i was never like this no matter wut your age is , till i had the surgery!!!!!!!!!!!! GOD BLESS U ALL WHO IS GOING THROUGH THIS

My problem is a recurring discharge, yeast infections all the time. One sex partner, who is my husband. What is this about anyone have any thoughts on this?
I' having the surgery on february and im scared because i never had surgery before, but what bothers me is that i have to be out of work for a long time, can someone tell me how long is the recovery. thanks
My WIFE had it done when she was 27yrs old , she is now 35 and she has had NO SEX drive since . She says she could go the rest of her life with out ever having sex again . So I would tell every woman to research what you are going to have done before you do it . That is what I'm trying to do now .Just to see if i can help my wife . GOD BLESS ALL
I need to know the names of doctors who perform vaginal histerectomy thru the vagina, I have pain with my periods and I had one of my ovaries removed because they found a big fibroid the size of a tennis ball growing on top of it. Now I am considering histerectomy cause the pain is still there, and it last for 7 days every months. I dont want to have my uterus removed and not be able to work for several weeks so I need a quick and less invasive surgery. Is there any one out there who knows the names of physicians who can do this, I need their names and phone numbers so I can research to find one for ME. Please anyone help me!!!
I have a 6cm fibroid and I am afraid the Dr might perform an histerectomy, is it true that you never get to O again? It is afterall an uterine thing no? I am waiting for the next 10 days to pass for my appointment..
I was diagnosed with adenocarcimona in situ (cervical cancer stage 1), i had my conization a year ago, i am now going to my 6 mothns ceheck up, but my oncologist, told me that the last pap smear showed some abnormalities in the cells, but nothing to worry abt., i've been 2 his office last thursday and he told me the cervix looks ok, but it would be smart decision to get a hysterectomy because even though everything looks ok, there may be something hidden. I am 34 now and divorced, this may sound crazy but i am really worry abt my sex life, i've read in sooooo many places that the sex drive changes, because the cervix and uterus wont get the contractions so achieve an orgasm. Has anyone have a clue on this...? I am still thinking abt doing it...Pls help:)
I have the same diagnosis - fibroid 6-7cm clinging to my uterus (the Dr is also considering abnormal benign growth of one of my ovaries).
I'm 30 and haven't had children, yet. The Dr told me that I might have to remove the right ovary and half my uterus! In 6 days I'll be going in for a magnetic resonance to better define what should and could be done. From what the Dr told me, a full hysterectomy, for a 6-7cm fibrosis, is commonly NOT necessary. Before this Dr, I checked with three other Dr's, and they all had a different diagnosis - so in my opinion, always get a second/third/fourth opinion.
I had a cousin who went through a similar situation - 37 then, she kept half her uterus and one ovary. she says her sex drive/O factor hasn't changed at all!
