Congrats!!!  I really hope that it is a normal cycle for you. This brings you one step closer. Now that you have a piece of mind you can throw all your worries away and try to expand your family.  Well good luck to you and enjoying ttc.

** Hello again ladies...

I poasted at the begining of April. I had Mirena removed & had a lot of bleeding from the removal. Just to let you know that the bleeding after removal is NOT your period. I just got my normal period 28 days from my last one, which I am very surprised from how much blood I lost a few weeks ago. Now we are going to try to get preggo with #2. I am so excited and I love reading all of your similar stories.
Hopefully I can come back on soon with preggo news.
Good luck to all TTC....

This is definatly my period, and like the other gals I've read about, it is heavier than usual.  If I hadn't read all the stories I think I might have been worried.  Hopefully it will be better next month.  Atleast I still have nearly no PMS or caramping to speak of.  Now if it goies lasting longer than a week I may get aggitated!!

Ok, so this is the second post and I thought I would update and Inquire.  So, Again Mirena removed on Mar 25, bled the second day and then spotted the 3rd.  More bleeding on the 3rd of April after intercourse, was like a period for a day and then went away,  Same thing for a couple more intercourse sessions, some bleeding and then stopped and have had no bleeding since, I was so excited when we tried relations again and I didn't bleed  lol.

Had some wierd discharge on the 9th and 10th of April, very thick and stringy, thought it might be close to ovulation so I did a OPK on the 11th, negative, 12th positive and positive again on the 13th.  So it said that meant you should ovulate within 24 to 36 hours which meant I should have ovulated on the 14th or 15th.  I'm not real familiar with all this stuff since I have never really tried to have a baby b4 and now that I am actually trying, Im so confused about all this hormone testing and whatnot.

Anyway, Im not sure when Im due for a period, since I never really had periods while on the Mirena.  Im not sure when I should do a pregnancy test, so I did one today assuming that 14 days from the 12th is the 26th so that would be 14 days after I was told by a stick I was supposed to be ovulating and the preg test said 5 days before missed period and it was negative.  Hubby and I are very anxious to conceive.  This waiting game is going to drive me out of my mind!!

If anyone could help me out on any of this I would be soooooo appreciative and I would love to hear your experiences on using OPK's and how accurate they are.  I know everyone is different, but Im hoping that someone out there is the same as I am so we can share experiences.

Thanks!!

Good Luck on the OPK's.  I have zero experience there.  But I have had the mirena and had it taken out on Mrach the 10th and spotted a few times, bright red/pink.  Not necesarily after sex though.  I also had the discharge that was unlike any I have ever had before.  Stringy and goopy, (TMI!!)  But it was about the time, I guess, I could have been ovulating.  I had never heard that before joining this forum-the connection in ovulation and discharge-but now it kinda makes sense becuase I finally started my period on April the 21st.  I also had several preg symptoms to the weeks prior.  I felt very nausiated all day (lost 6 lbs) and my breasts were soooo swollen and sore.  But I wonder if that had something to do with the hormones flooding my body again after so long. (I had the IUD for about 4 years) Because before the IUD I never really experienced those kind of PMS.  But on a good note, like I said above, I have had no cramping and I don't feel exceptionally aggitated.   My period is for sure alot heavier but nothing that can't be handled.

Now I can focus on our May baby hopefully.  Just gotta hold the baby fever down until the end of summer!!!  Wish me luck.  Even after all this time my husband and I have a hard time keeping our hands off each other!!  (I know TMI again!)

Good luck and keep us all posted as to what's up:)

I had Mirena removed on April 12th and still have not bled. A lot of people posted that they bled after removal and I realize that this is not a period. Is it normal to not bleed? I am TTC too and did ovulate on the 18th like I should have but we aren't going to try untill next month. Basically wondering if it's normal to not bleed right after removal or should I not worry about it since I did ovulate on time?

Ok so heres yet another update which may or not shed some light at the end of the tunnel for those of you who have considered getting the mirena or for those of you who are new to it.  I had mine in for three and a half years, never had any side effects like the weight gain or the acne.  I loved it and it was so low maintenance.

Anyway I, as I have mentioned before, had it removed on March 25th and never had a period while having the mirena in.  Yesterday, the 25th of April, AF came to visit.  On a good note, my system is regulating quickly, on a bad note I was hoping to conceive right away, but maybe its for the best that I didnt since it seems that people who have conceived right away have had miscarriages, and I didnt want that.  So I guess well try again in a couple of weeks.

Good luck to all!!

by momof5grlz, Apr 27, 2009 11:04AM
Well good luck wabs09!!!  I feel the same about Mirena.  I have heard some horror stories for sure but having Mirena seemed to be good except the fact it was in wrong.  And it only took about a month and a half to return to almost normal.  AF was heavier than ususal as I said above, but only about 5 days in duration and will hopefully be a little lighter next time.  Who knows maybe it is because I am getting older and these changes would have occured anyway.   I pray you'll concieve soon and have a great pregnancy!!

I just wanted to wish you the best of luck as well with conceiving your may baby!

You may have posted the answer before, but how long did you have your Mirena in?  Has your doc said anything about waiting to conceive or that it would take a while due to the mirena?  My first doc said that it could take up to a year to get prego but my new  doc said it shouldnt take any time at all.

by momof5grlz, Apr 28, 2009 08:36AM

Thanks!!

I had the Mirena for just under 41/2 years.  My doc said that I should be able to concieve right away too.  He said there is the rare occasion when it takes some people longer but usually they can get pregnant right away.  Evidently you don't have to have a period the first time. I have read about alot of people getting pregnant without ever gettting their cycles back to normal again.  I also asked about all the miscarriages I had heard about and was it related to the fact of having the mirena and the thinning of the uterus.  He said the uterus dosen't get thinned only the linning and by the time it builds back up to have a period your body is ready to sustain a pregnancy.  So long story longer, he said it was no cause for concern on having a miscarriage.  I was worried too.  I had a miscarriage once already and was not interested in having another one.  I am left with only one tube now and cannot afford to lose the other one if i am to expand on my family.

Good luck and keep me updated, I love hearing everyones stories and having someone to share this with.  We are keeping it under wraps at home.

Sorry I have been so busy.  Well, aunt flo did not come and I did take a hpt a day before it was due and it came up negitive. (I was being really impatient.) I was expecting that so I am not to disappointed.  I really hope that it does come in the next couple days though, just to have my cycles regulated would be nice.  Hopefully I will have better luck next month.
How are things going for you?

by momof5grlz, Apr 28, 2009 11:49AM
To: funcia
Things are normal again I think.  I am now just trying to convince myself and my husband that condoms aren't all that bad.  It's like being in high school again.  Between the kids always almost catching us and going back to the condoms again, and hating to use them.  And fighting over who is going to buy them.LOL.  (I always have the kids and would prefer not to explain at their ages yet)  I don't know why he cares though.  Anyway, we are good.  But the funny thing is our kids keep mentioning they wish we could have a new baby.  (My best friend has a 3 month old we see from time to time, I hope this is the cause and not that they have overheard any of our conversations)

Well keep me posted and be patient.  I am a strong believer in God's timing being perfect. ( You can remind me of this when I am about to pull my hair out because my plan isn't going as hoped for!!  :) )

It's funny cause with my other two kids I didn't exactly plan them. I let nature take its course, and they were here so quick. . Now that I am planning it's gonna feel like an eternity everytime i take a hpt and it's negitive.  I am still young so I am gonna take my time (even though I want it to happen now) and not get stressed over it and just continue to eat and do healthy things. I wish you and your husband the best of luck and do keep me posted as well.   Thanks again for the words of wisdom they are greatly appreciated.

Hello Ladies! Im new to this group! I have been reading everyones comment on having thier IUD removed. I'm on the way to the doctors to possible have mine removed. My hubby is on deployment in Iraq and he was suppose to get leave in June but he called yesterday and he will be home by Mother's Day and we plan to at least try to concieve. I already have two boys age 4 and 2. But i had a friend who had it removed and how is having twins after only 1 month after having hers removed. I will keep everyone update about my decision. I really think all of everyone comments really help me. Wish everyone the best.

Best wishes on having it removed. I would suggest some motrin before you get to the Dr to help with cramping later.   I am hoping for twins myself.  That gave my faith a great boost hearing that!  Good luck and let us know what's up!

Sounds like you and Funcia have some stuff in common!

While i went to drs and I didnt have it remove. I have been having this bad migraines since my hubby deploy and the drs wants to keep a look out on my headaches to make sure that its not anything serious. So im taking this pills for my headaches, so he said it will not help my migraines it will just add to the stress. So I got to talk to my hubby today and we decided that we should wait till he return from deployment. Best wishes to all.

by wabs09, Apr 29, 2009 09:32PM
Oh my goodness.  I have read alot of posts that said the first period after Mirena removal was heavier then normal, well mine sure has been.  Fourth day today and still not letting up.  Is this normal??  Called the doc yesterday and she said not to worry unless it continues for seven days and then they want to do progesterone shots and I was like no way Im tring to get pregnant not prolong it.  Anyone else experienced this heavy bleeding? And its not just heavy its real thin blood (hope you ladies know what I mean by that).  Im beginning to get a bit concerned due to the fact  , where is all this blood coming from.  No periods on the mirena, how can that much lood build up in such a short period of time?

by momof5grlz, Apr 30, 2009 08:38AM
Looley- hope you find out what is causing your headaches, and hope it's nothing serious.  I'll be praying for you.  And being in agreement with each other is so important, and sometimes impossible it seems.  Especially when your talking about a  baby.  It took me and my hubby the last three years to get into agreement on this whole thing.  Way to go.      Are they migraines?

wabs09- I had very heavy bleeding.  But not really what I would call thin blood? It seemed normal in texture.  Kinda clotty.  But it seems like everyone complains about the heavy bleeding after mirena.  I would just keep check with your doc.  LIke I said above.  I would have been worried too if I had not read all the other posts.  I'll let you know if this month was any better.  Though if my husband dosen't get some protection soon I may not have another AF.  LOL.
What are the shots for exactly?  I'm not familiar with them.

by momof5grlz, Apr 30, 2009 08:42AM
To: MPizzalato
Any AF yet?  I didn't have but a tiny bit of spotting after mine was removed.

by wabs09, Apr 30, 2009 09:47AM
To: momof5girlz
As it was explained to me by my doc, the progesterone shots would do essentially the same thing as the mirena did, which is slow or stop the bleeding and again make it impossible to conceive.  The flow does sem lighter today so hopefully I wont have to worry about it this month!   And Im hoping I don't have AF next month to worry about it again. lol

I HAD MY MIRENA TAKEN OUT 2 1/2 YEARS AGO DUE TO OVARIAN CYST COMPLICATIONS. MY HUSBAND AND I HAVE FOUR CHILDREN AND HAVE BEEN TRYING TO HAVE ANOTHER FOR A YEAR NOW. BEFORE THE MIRENA HE COULD BREATHE ON ME ND GET ME PREGNANT BUT NOW IT SEEMS LIKE NO MATTER WHAT WE DO (NATURALLY) WE CAN'T CONCEIVE. I WENT TO THE DOC BEFORE WE STARTED TRYING TO CONCIEVE AND HE CHECKED MY THYROID AND GAVE ME AN EXAM AND ALSO ULTRASOUND MY OVARIES AND UTERUS AND TOLD ME THAT EVERYTHING WAS GREAT FOR CONCEPTION. WHY AM I NOT GETTING PREGNANT?!!!!!!!! THIS IS SO FRUSTRATING! IS ANYONE HAVEING THE SAME ISSUES AFTER THE MIRENA?

I had mirena in for about a year and a half and I got it taken out recently because me and my husband are ttc our second child. I did have the heavy bleeding mentioned above and now I have light spotting after intercourse and when we do not have sex, the spotting is every other day, really light....I can relate to the birth control pills regulating your cycle also and soon after conceiving as this is what happened with our first child...I am praying that I conceive soon and I know with my personal experience I had a little talk with God and I know He is a key factor in a successful pregnancy...We are so excited... I have been a little nauseated today and tired for days, but I think it may have something to do with these final exams....lol...Anyway, I'm glad to have found thid board and to be a part, blessings to all of you who shared and all who are trying to conceive....God's timing is definitely on point...

I've been reading through all these reviews about the mirena and thought that I would share my experience. I had the mirena removed in Feb. after 4 years. My youngest will be going to school this august so we thought it would be perfect timing to try and expand our family. I have two boys 8 & 4.... I got my first cycle march 27 and it was just like everyone else said.... HORRIBLE. It lasted 5 days. Here we are a month later and I was waiting around to see if I would get my monthly again. Well to my surprise I didn't so I rushed to the store to buy a test. It was positive:) I'm excited but scared at the same time. I have heard about so many women having miscarriages that it really scares me. I have on the other hand been experiencing some cramping which had me a little worried. (no spotting though) I will be making an appt next week and hopefully everything will go well. I know that everything happens in God's perfect timing so I will leave it in his hands. Good luck everyone and I will keep updating...

I had my Mirena removed in October.  AF in Oct and Nov were really light, then Dec, really heavy like most of you experienced.  I understand the reason it is so heavy is similar to the reason for a regular period, to cleanse your uterus when an egg does not implant.  Since the IUD causes a high level of progesterone, the lining gets thicker and prohibits the implantation of the fertilized egg . . . Thus the lining has so much more to shed when you get the hormone filled IUD removed.
At any rate, I still continue to get AF on a random cycle. 21 days three times in a row, then 28 days, then 14 days (light spotting after intercourse) etc.  Just waiting and waiting.
I have always been VERY fertile getting pregnant every time we've tried. I have had 5 total pregnancies, every other one a miscarriage. I had the IUD put in after our twins were born 3 years ago. For now, it's a waiting game.  Hoping things work out by July. It's really frustrating to experience the "ttc" side of things.  Rhetorically speaking, so glad to know others are just like me.

I had a hard time trying to find someone who would respond to me when I first found this site, so I try to reply to anyone new i notice.  Hope you all don't think I'm just nosey.  Plus I am a stay at home mom and love the outside conversation.  Noggin and Disney wear on me some days, and this site is a great escape.  Don't get me wrong, family is my thing, the thing God designed me to do, and I love it, just gets a little dull somedays.  Anyway, welcome all and I love hearing your stories, it is my God given desire to pray for your needs, hopes, and hurts when I read about them.  I hope this is not offensive to anyone, and i hope my comments are not offensive.

momto4kiddos-  Do you have twin boys or girls?  It has been my prayer that I could concieve twin boys for the last two years.  I am always interested in hearing about twins, are they identical or fraternal?

lala2383- Best wishes and keep us posted for sure!!  All the stories give me so much hope!

Hi all,
I too have been reading all of these comments and they have been so helpful!  I had my mirena IUD removed on 4/27, after 2 1/2 years.  My husband and I are ttc our first child.  I did not experience any bleeding after, only very minimal spotting yesterday (4/30).  Is it normal to not bleed after?  Also I didn't have a period at all while on the mirena, prior to that I had a regular period but only lasting 3 days.
Any thoughts?
Thanks again for this great site!

Well! I had my IUD removed on the 21 of April and had heavy bleeding as stated before, this, then spotting for a total of nine days...I had a couple of days where I stopped and I thought it was safe to have sex, so I did and now I haven't seen the faintest trace of blood! Then my five yr old walks up to me today out of nowhere and starts rubbing my stomach while looking my square in the eye?????Wow! So guess what I'm thinking??? It encourages me so much to hear that it doesn't take long after IUD removal to conceive, we are so ready... I had been wanting twins too, isn't that something, my mom is a twin and so is my husband....be careful what you ask for (C'celia)

To momof5grlz: I prayed about conceiving another child with my husband because the first go round we had alot of complications due to the life I was living....I had to do some serious repenting and praying and I know in order to have a successful pregnancy I will need to surround myself with believers and stay in His Word.... Maybe one day I can share with you my entire testimony!!! But yes, it is good to know God has His people everywhere!

To lala2383: Congratulations! I am so happy for you two, another addition to the family, I will also be praying for you and your family and like momof5grlz I don't want to offend anyone either, I just believe in the power of prayer and I know God hears me!
So in short, blessings to all of you!

Okay i am trying to figure out what is going on with me i had my IUD taken out April 6th and I still haven't had a period. We have been ttc and I had this really dizzy spell that lasted 3 days and I called the doc and they asked me if there was a chance that I was preg and I said I hope and all the hpt i take are neg. I haven't had a period and was wondering hoy long after you get your iud removed should it take to have a period i had spotting on April 8 and the 10th but no other time.  Also I never bleed when i had my iud in for the 4 years once in a while i would spott and i would almost always have cramps and brake out but not bleed. so i know this sounds like a dumb question but after the iud are the eggs that are released good eggs and is there a chance that more that one could drop because they wernt  able to before. if that is even right i am not sure. Just trying to figure out what is going on and what i can expect. thanks for your time girls and good luck to all.

So , when I first found this website I was so hoping to find someone with the exact same experiences and symptoms as I had, just so I wouldnt feel wierd or paranoid.  Instead what I found is that if I put a bunch of stories together, it sounds like me and my experiences and that everyone had similar experiences, but not the same experiences.  Ok so Im sure all would tell you the same thing as Im going to speaking from experience.  As I have read every post on this site, every one has had a different experience.  Some not having a period for months after removal of the IUD and some who have resumed or kept to a normal period schedule.

I for instance had my period exactly one month to the day from the removal of my IUD, it was 6 days long and very heavy.  And from what ive been told from 2 different docs and have read on many researched pages, you still continue to ovulate with the Mirena in place so I don't think you would release a bunch of eggs all at once after removal.  I also had and continue to have some wierd after affects of removal, maybe, it could be from something else and just coincidentally came upon after the removal, but I have been having dizzy spells, bouts of nausea, tiredness, very emotional at times, breast tenderness,  and I know Im not Preggers yet.  But this site is very helpful and will put your mind at ease and help you as to what to expect for the next couple  of months.  I know it's scary, it was for me anyway and the waiting to see whats going to happen can be excruciating, but the feedback you get from the people in here can be wonderful.  I found it to be a huge comfort for me and I so appreciated all the feedback I got from momof5girlz!!

Good luck to you !!!

No AF yet, but I am having every symptom of getting it. I will hopefully get it tomorrow and I will be right on track. This is kinda funny to me because I've never in my life paid so much attention to sign and symptoms of my period coming. Anyways I am hoping I get it in the next couple days so then I know my cycle is right on track. Wish me luck everyone :)

by momof5grlz, May 05, 2009 01:37PM
MPizzalato-I have been thinking the same thing.  And the funny thing I think is how much AF symptoms and pregnancy symptoms are alike.  I am looking forward too to seeing how on track this month will be.  I really couldn't tell you from before.  I never really kept track of anything.  As heavy as it was last month, I'm afraid to be caught off guard!!!!

Wabs09- glad I could be encouraging!!!

reebee86- congratulations!! when are you due?

243lexie- I haven't really experienced things that way with the IUD, and I never really
thought to question about the eggs.  Sorry.

CVernon-I would love to hear your testimony!!  And I'm glad to hear I haven't run anyone off by my beliefs and thank you for allowing me to be an encouragement.  Please, bring forth any request I will be happy to lift them up!  I am soooo tickled to hear from other believers!!  I wish you the best on the twin thing too!!  They say kids have that 6th sense, I will be curious to see how this turns out!

Funcia- what's up?  Anthing new?

TW61607- I wonder if the no bleeding thing has to do with how gentle the doc is?  I don't know, but i didn't really bleed either.  But how lucky are you only having a 3 day period???!!! Hope it remains that way after removal.  Good luck.

by MPizzalato, May 05, 2009 08:48PM

I'm back. Well one piece of good news I got AF this morning and I have never been excited to have a period lol. It took 40 days from the the last one I had. I hope that my cycles are normal from now on. I am going to go buy an opk because I have no idea how to track my ovualtion days since it took so long for af to arrive. I hope this is my month ttc with a positive outcome.
How about you anything new?

Good luck to all the ladies ttc, and have fun doing it.

I can't remember, did you tell me that was your 2nd period since you had the IUD taken out?  If I have to wait 40 days I am gonna go crazy!!!  I bet it drove you nuts waiting and wondering what in the world???!!!  Boy that'll stetch your patience!!

Nothing new here.  I should be getting round two ina couple weeks.  Around the 19th  I am guessing.  I know it is all part of the world we live in, but all that is going on makes me second guess myself on wanting another child.  It has made me really digg in both heels and seek what God wants for my life.  With things the way they are, swine flu, economy, wars, everything,   I don't want anything outside His will for me.  I know He won't give me anything He dosen't intend to bring me through with His grace.  So I am just taking one day at a time.  And trying to trust:)

Well keep up the good work and patience waiting on your body to return to normal :)

I had my taken out in Nov after having it for about 2 1/2 yrs. My husband and I were not sure if we want to start TTC or not right away. Well I wait until Dec start what I thought was my Period and started taking Birth control pills until the end of Jan, b/c we decide to go head and start TTC. I had a period Feb and already heavey one in March well the week of ovulation we had sex almost everyday, no period in April I took a HPT many time and different times of the day and knowing that the morning is better. All was NEG (-), so i figure I will wait until May before going and being check out and find out what is going on, b/c general no period no ovulation!! I am upset b/c all they can say is that it can take a while for it to get out of my system and they can do blood test to find out what my levels are? I wish She would have been more clear on the fact the it can be so hard TTC after having it.
I upset b/c I feel that it is not clearing stated of explain that this problem can happen!! I just SAD and waiting for AF

I have had my Mirena in for 7 years, and right before that, I had a different IUD in. I have only had one period in the 7 years, and that was when they put the 2nd Mirena in. I just had it removed on 5-4-09 to try ot conceive, and no bleeding yet. A little pressure and a few cramps, but that is it. I really want to hold off a few months so we can try for a summer baby, but I guess if it happens sooner, that is OK too. Hopefully after not having a period that long, my return to fertility will still be quick as they they say it is.

Update.... my cycle was very normal, 5 days. Now me and my husband are TTC even though I won't ovulate for another week. My 1st born was conceived the day after my period so you never know what could happen, plus TTC conceive is just plain fun!!! I will update in a few weeks if I am Pregnant or not but cross your fingers! I am so excited!

Hi again.
I had Mirena removed April 2nd and waited one full cycle before TTC. Now I've just been playing the waiting game before testing. My AF isn't due till the 18th but I am going to test Wed morning. I will keep praying till then and hope to get a Big Fat Positive!! This will be baby #2 if all goes well. I love reading everyones thoughts on this page. Keep it up :)

I had my mirena out 15 days ago, I still have not gotten a period.  I took a pregnancy test, because I am impatient ;)  For those of you that did get pregnant after the mirena (without a period) how long did you wait to test?

Ummm... I would Test 28 days from the begining of your last period. It is possible that you are pregnant after having the IDU removed, If you had sex shortly before removal and after removal ( of course). Sperm can live inside you, up to 5 days. It just depends when you ovulated.
Good luck to you and let us know :)

Thanks for the reply!  The problem is I never had a period while on the Mirena, for the full 2 and 1/2 years.  I thought I had read that you can get pregnant before ever getting a period, but doesn't seem possible to me---as that would mean I had no lining--right?

by breezie26, May 13, 2009 08:26AM

Even if your lining is thin, you do still ovulate while on Mirena. The chances are slim that you are pregnant if you had sex before taking it out. Are you Trying to conceive? Did you have sex after getting it removed?

Hello Everyone

I have a quick question i would like to know how many of you took off mirena with out Insurance and how much it costed. My hubbby wants to have another baby But i'm currently not working so i dont have insurance. Does anyone have an Idea how much it is?

Well good luck to you and hope it all works out for you

I have insurance but it wasn't covered to take it out. I was charged 175.00 just to pull it out. It's annoying that it costs that much because it took a total of one second. Hope this helps you :)

hi girls,
The doctor did say to wait until 1-2 months, so we aren't actively trying to conceive yet, but are not preventing it either.  We have had sex before and after the IUD removal.
I am just a bit of a control freak so it worries me to not either get my period, or know if I could be pregnant.  I guess time will tell, and it will all happen when it is supposed to.
Breezie26:  have you gotten a BFP yet??
243lexie:  How frustrating 38 days!  Ugh, I would definitely go to the Doctors, although my MD did say it could take 1-2 months to get your period back.  Maybe they can do a blood pregnancy test-that should more accurate!
I have never paid so much attention to my body before, I feel like I can make myself think I am pregnant, but maybe it is just my hormones getting back on track.  One thing is for sure I am eating like a pig! I have such a big appetite.
Talk to you all later

I am expecting my period on the 18th. I am like you and everyone else on here... Impatient and hating the wait!! I took a HPT on Wed morning but it was negative :(  It was 5 days before my expected period, so it was way too early. I will try again Sat morning. I am wanting to be preggo again so badly. I hear you about making yourself think you are pregnant and paying so much attention to your body... I am there too. Well, it sounds like you could be pregnant. I would go get a blood test to see if any HCG hormones are showing up. Either way, I hope you get your period or a BFP so you know what's going on. Let us know!!!

HI! I got my iud taken out at the end of March and two days later I believe I got my period. I don't think it was considered a period though. 28 days past and no period then I took a pregnancy test cause it wasn't coming and it was negitive. Another week passed and finally on the 40th day AF came.  I wouldn't worry give it some time even though it is so freakin frustrating. I am hoping that this will be my lucky month. Good luck with everything.

Hello Everyone:

I wish i had read this before implanting my Mirena!  My implantation was the worst pain ever in my life!  Whoever said it did not hurt lied big time.  I am planning to have it removed in about 4 months, trying for the second child.  For the removal you will bet I will be heavily drugged up with pain medication!!!!!!  I will not be taking any chances.  I want to thank all of you for the information.  It really does help.

Hey all.  Reading everyone's posts has been both discouraging and encouraging at the same time if that makes any sense.  I had my Mirena removed May 6th after having it for about 16 months.  From reading about everyone's experiences, it seems as if I may be in for a longer than anticipated wait before getting pregnant (with our 3rd), so I thought I would join this community of eager-to-be-pregnant women so I'm not alone in this journey.

Hello again ladies!

Well TTC is becoming a bit aggrivating with these OPK's.  I followed the directions this month and last and last month i had a positive on the 12th so I stopped testing.  This month out of curiosity, I got a positive, on the 9th (the lines matched in color one wasnt darker than the other,) so I thought this was a positive but just to make sure I continued testing.  (All days up until today were very negative) Well, today, the 15th I tested and the test line is darker than the reference line and Im totally confused.   The 9th would have been an accurate positive based on the fact I had a period on April 25th  I had positive OPK on the 12th of April.  I was also cramping on the 10th and a bit on the 11th so I figred it was ovulation.  But now to get a positive OPK 6 days later is throwing me completely off.  HELP!!  lol

by momof5grlz, May 15, 2009 01:11PM
Hey gals!

Wabs09-wish I could help, but like I said, I know nothing about OPK's.  I have never used one.  But keep up the positive attitude.  Are those things pretty pricey?

Eneedsasibling- Good luck and don't forget to take a good dose of ibuprofen before you go!!!!

nickiswan- don't get discouraged, everyone's body does it's own thing.  I don't know if it takes so much time to concieve as it does just to figure out your cycles again.  Be patient and just enjoy your husband:)

yarimike- I hear ya on the pain meds!!  Thank God someone had reminded me as I was on my way out the door to go to get it out!  I don't know if it was the pain med or I was just lucky, but once they got it out (OUCH!) I had almost no cramping afterwards.  Good luck!
On a positive note, I got my AF today.  25 day instead of 28 day cycle.  Don't really know if that means anything significant or if I am just going to have shorter cycles now.  Hopefully it won't be as heavy this time!   Will keep ya posted:)

Hey all
I just found this site and wanted to add my situation. I had mirena taken out after having it for 4 years on March 23, i had slight spotting on March 27, much like a very light period. No other spotting or bleeding. I checked the calendar and realized i have yet to have a full period so I took a pregnancy test on May13 it was positive took another one the next morning to be sure and it was positive as well. So it is very possible to get pregnant right after mirena! It has been less than 1 1/2 months since having it removed and i am pregnant. I cant get in to see my doctor till june 11, but i am concerned about twins, I was wondering how likely it is to have twins right after having mirena removed? This is my third pregnancy I have two girls 6 and 5. Just wanted to encourage all you ladies who are trying, dont give up! GOD BLESS

Congratulations on your BFP!  How exciting, and encouraging for the rest of us.
I wouldn't think the mirena would have any effect on having twins, I always thought it was more of a hereditary thing--at least with fraternal.  However, I did find this on another website I was on: (not sure of the validity it was just posted by a women not an MD"
Good luck!  If it was twins--what a blessing! :-)

"Also, besides knowing that identical twins seem to happen more with IVF as though the eggs are somehow more prone to splitting, be aware that some women are hyperovulatory coming off of birth control. My high risk OB suspects that my twins are due to coming off the Mirena IUD and not trying to prevent that first month. If you're concerned about twins, don't try to conceive until you've had your first menstrual cycle after going off birth control."

Im new hear and i have lots to tell about my story of the iud experience.... but im just going to add recent events for now.... af came april 30 i had severe cramping and light bleeding (more of a brown discharge really..had it as af the entire 18 months i had iud) any how i spotted for merely 2 days the cramping continued then every other day i had spotting then the 7 8 9 10 and the morning of the 11th dh had unprotected sex....still cramping like heck. he had noticed something wasnt right...strings were unusually long...then he headed out of town ....that day i had more bleeding and very uncomfortable...then it happened!...i went to the bathroom..peed and ther it was my IUD! it came out and was completely freaked out....now after this i felt a huge sigh of relief no cramping for once! that is til the next day i began bleeding then it got heavier and even passed a few small clots. then it stopped for a few days...now here i am having cramping and more spotting!~ just like that! all of a sudden! what could be wrong? or is this normal after iud expulsion? ugh im at my whits end.....i know its not ovulation and ive taken hpt but all neg...if i had gotten pregnant before expulsion could the embryo survive? i would have ovulated around the 11th when it was expelled but i did have sex before that and if they live 2-7 days ahhhhhhh what do i do? ugh im very impatient and ive already got 3 beautiful babies....any advice or anything would be fantastic!

I have been a a nosey body on here for some time now. But my own IUD removal experience has officially caused me concern to speak up and ask for advice or answers. Ok...had my MIRENA IUD removed on April 7,2009 for the purpose of TTC. Had some light bleeding for a week off and on.Had intercourse the following week and bled lightly during and after, that stopped the same day. Then AF came April 19, normal flow nothing out of the ordinary before having an IUD it lasted 5 days exactly. Here's the catch...we have been actively trying since then. I have been having crazy dreams of being preggo with twins and giving birth to twins(mind you I have been told by a doctor that I ovulate twice a month but that was before I had an IUD placed)  and on top of that major exhaustion and a rumbling stomach and other preggo symptoms. What the heck is going on with me? lol! Ive taken hpts all negative. And then all of a sudden late Saturday night(May16 but AF wasnt due until the may19) I started to bleed lightly by Sunday morning It was so heavy that I was changing my (Reg)tampon every 20 or 30 minutes and they would be leaking by the time I changed it. No clots though and no cramping so I'm sort of ruling out a miscarriage.. I'm freaked out. It was so heavy that it soaked through a super within 2 1/2 hours over night.. Has this happened to anyone else? Or am I just anxious to be preggo that my mind has been goign nuts with the dreams and all?LOL!

I defentaly had the whole heavy bleeding thing but it was that way on my first AF(after mirena IUD) not 2nd.  In fact I just had my 2nd AF and it was very normal.  3 days long and not so heavy.  So I don't really have a good answer for you,.... but good luck:)

I personally don't understand such heavy bleeding with no cramping but that was also what I had experienced.

So again I am still having the OPK dilemma.  Noone seems to know anything about them or if they do, they dont put in their input on this blog.  But I will, never the less try again and hope that someone out there is reading and understanding my situation.

So as I said b4, my OPK's are still coming out positive for about a week now.  If I test twice a day the one in the A.M. Is positive and usually the one in the P.M. is negative.(The test says you can use it any time of the day.)  So I dont know whether to rely on these for TTC purposed because im starting to wonder if they are in fact reliable.  I have started cramping today (lightly) and for 4 or 5 days now I have been having uterine spasms.  Anyone know what those are all about.??  They arent bothersome just funny feeling.  I am still 7 days away from period due date, I think, I hope lol.  I should have ovulated around the 10th or 11th.  Im still trying to figure out all of this TTC stuff.  Before with my last 3 kids it just happened without planning, but now I realize how difficult and frustrating this all can be.

Best of luck to all.  I can sympathise with you and you all have my best wishes!!

Hello EVERYONE. I have been trying to locate a community that seemed to have members that were dealing with the same thing I was and I am SO happy that I found you ladies :)

I am 24 yrs old and I have one child (4 yrs old) from my previous relationship and I have been with my NOW fiance for 3 yrs and he is AWESOME with my daughter. I had the mirena placed in after him and I started getting more serious as I knew I did not want any children at the time my daughter just turned two. So, I had it placed 12/28/2006 and I had it removed on April 20, 2009. I started my mentrual cycle which was off by 4 days as throughtout the entire time I had the mirena I got my period (I have to learn the abbrevations, lol) on the 15th or the 17th.

I told my doctor as she noticed the brownish coloring when removing my mirena and confirmed I was at the beginning of mentrual so to mark the date for tracking purposes. She never told me to wait a certain amount of time before ressuming to have relations. As we did the first two nights before I got the mirena removed and the day my period stopped which was the 22nd of April.

Now I haven't tracked my ovulation but my doctor stated that I should ovulate sometime between the 29th and the 2nd. But I did not get a ovulation kit; wish I did.

We have been like little bunnies every other day because who knows when I infact ovulated and we didn't want to miss out, lol. Starting May 12th I have had sore breasts and back aching but a weird feeling of cramps have been occuring since the 7th of May. It is weird b/c I just knew it was my period but still nothing. So, I tested on 14th and one test one light line and one dark and then I took a digital and it read -NO. So, I made an appointment to see my doctor tomorrow @ 1 PM to test.

I will be back later tomorrow evening to update.

So, I have a few more questions for you ladies.
so it has now been 23 days since I got my mirena removed.  I have been feeling very hungry, tired, and my stomach aches have been terrible--  I have ulcerative colitis.  I am not sure if all of these symptoms are from me coming off of the mirena, or because I could be pregnant.  I have tested at home, all negative.  I called the doctors today requesting a requisition, as I had to have blood drawn for my GI, instead he sent in a request for a urine sample.  soooo, I have two questions:  1) does anyone know if a urine sample with the MD is more accurate--or the same as a home pregnancy test?  2) Anyone else have IBS or ulcertive colitis and if so what affects did you feel after coming off the IUD?
Thanks!

I went to the Dr to find out what the is going on, all she told was the it can take your body some time to get back to normal so that we can start TTC, becasue it has the same hormone that the shot has and it takes time to get back to normal. That she could do blood test and let me know what the levels and go from there, I too upset to even think about doing that and I just don't want to spent the money on the copays and etc, I upset b/c if I knew that this could of happen I would not of done it. She talk me into becasue i did want my child close and now we want to TTC I'm scared that there is going to be a bigger gap then what was plan!!

I don't think that a urine test is any more accurate at a doctor's office than at home.   As for your colitis, I have no experience in that area. Sorry.

I did read a doctor's posting on one website that said when women stop birth control, their bodies can create symptoms similar to pregnancy as the body attempts to normalize the hormones and get back to a regular cycle.

okay I have had my IUD out now for 47days and we are ttc and I still haven't had a period or a positive hpt. This is driving me crazy. I had my IUD in for about 4 years. Is there anyone else who has it in for about that long and when it got taken out how long did it take to have a period or a positive hpt. what should I do?Should I worry and go to the doc. The doc told me when I got the IUD out that I should wait for a period so that I know when I am ovulating and that was that but now that I am looking up all this stuff of it and how you should wait so that the lining in your uterus can shed and be stronger for the egg to implant it self it kinda freaks me out. If she would of told me that we would of waited to ttc.   Good luck to the women who are ttc I wish you the best.

I had my mirena about 4 years,  a little over actually and I went through kind of the same thing.  it took me exactky 6 weeks before AF returned.  And it was sooooo heavy when it did. I drove myself crazy the last 3 weeks prior to AF thinking I was pregnant.  My body mimicked so many preg signs.  But now I have had my second AF and it was really more normal like mine used to be.  I realize you have been longer than 6 weeks at this time, but my doc said that it was still perfectly normal even for 2 months to pass without AF.  So hang in there and try to relax.  I had heard similar stories about the lining needing to build up enough to be able to sustain a pregnancy, but my doc said not necesarily the case.  It does seem to make sense though with all the miscarriages women seem to have in connection with mirena.  Good luck, hope this helps:)

I have IBS, and I have been having a lot of stomach aches since my IUD removal 19 days ago, however Im not sure if it is that or the fact that I quit smoking. The stomach aches are definately more intense now, but not sure why.

TO:  243 lexie: I had a Mirena for 7 years. I had it taken out for 2 months at one point, but it was put right back in. I only have had one period in the 7 years. I am at 19 days, and no period either. I never thought I would be so anxiously awaiting my period. I had brown discharge for the first few days, and have had clear discharge since. Anyone know what this means. HPT's are negative. OPK's show nothing. Im not sure what to do, but I sure hope it does not take me too much longer to get a period. I am soooo impatient.

To everyone who was asking how much the IUD removal is, I got my insurance statement today and it said $132 without insurance.  I have insurance, so it was just a regular co-pay of $20 even though I had my regular annual visit and removal of the IUD.
Hope that helps

I am having the same problem as you.I had my IUD in for a little over 2 years and now TTC. I had it removed on April 25 and still no AF. I never had a period the entire time I had the IUD in. So I have no idea when i would ovulate. THe wierd thing is that the reason I had the IUD removed was because the begning og Arpil I was feeling funny so I went to the doctor and sure enough I hade some how concieved while having th IUD in place. It ended up being a chemical pregnancy and my husband and I figured that this was GODS way of telling us it is time for another baby. We currentlt have a 4 yr little girl. It has now been 33 days ad no AF and frustrated I have taken a couple hpt and they are all negaitve as well. Not sure when to call the doc and go in for a blood test.
Any advice would be great.

HI everyone, i am new to this site but i've been reading all the stories - so much info. I am 26yrs old and i've had mirena for about 3yrs now - it hurt like hell to have it inserted - i cried.
My boyfriend and i decided that we want to take our relationship to the next level, get married and have a family. I'm still in school full time now (no work) and we think it would be a good idea to get preggo when i'm still in school so i can have the baby by graduation and then do the work thing for me.
I've started reading alot of the stories posted but i have no idea what AF and OPK stand for. I'm trying for my first so any advise would be sooooo appreciated. I get my IUD taken out in a about 2 weeks. I'm also now scared of a miscarriage since some women seem to have experienced it after removal.

Hello every1. I have been so caught up with my daughter's recital coming up and the holiday weekend that I have not be able to reach out and discuss my progress with the whole TTC and the doctor appointment. I went to the DRs (5/20) and she informed me that I was not expecting. I was somewhat sad and somewhat expecting her to say that.

She said with coming off the Mirena your body (hormones) react as if you are pregnant sometimes. As everyone's body is different and some actually conceive alot faster than others. She told me I should have tried to wait one full month and track my menstrual cycle and then TTC.

We have decided to wait a few months and then get a few good menstrual patterns and then TTC. I got AF on the 24th and I can mark the calendar as today being the last day as there is absolutely no flow happening and last night was a little brownish coloring in my pad (TMI maybe).

I am stressed about the whole ordeal honestly and that is something we do not want to happen as I we are planning our wedding also at this time. I will focus on getting my body healthier and continue tracking. It is encouraging to come up here and read all of the different situations others are experiencing so I will continue chatting with you all.

Continue to stay positive and healthy ladies. Good luck to those trying and Congradulations to those who have conceived.

by momof5grlz, May 27, 2009 11:25AM
nickiswan- I hear you on the sex drive too.  My husband swears my whole body has changed, including my drive, since I had mirena removed.

mrembo4life- Somehwere on here is a break down of the "code" language on here..  I found it once, but I haven't seen it again and don't know how I found it.  But AF is aunt flow according to the chart I found and OPK is ovulation predictor kit I think.  Good luck getting it out and don't forget the motrin before you go!!!!!!! I took 500 mg before I went and it was very uncomfortable but not unbearable. Some people say it dosent hurt near as bad as when they insert it though.  I'm sure you'll do fine.  Good luck and I will be praying for His best for you!

Hello Everyone I read the whole page down to the bottom! My husband and I decided its time to TTC for baby2. I had the IUD taken out April 25th and had bleading for a week maybe a little over after it was out. Its not May 28th and no periode I also tested and all negative I have read everyones story so I think I might wait a little more but I have a MRI for my shoulder on the 9th so what should I do?? Wait or make a dr. apt and go in for a blood test?? Any advice would be great.

ok so my earlier post was regarding the expulsion of my iud...well heres an update....on saturday i had a weird gut feeling...had a lil brown discharge the day before. anyhow i took a hpt and had a very very very faint positive i had to show everyone to see if i was seeing thinngs. but unfortunately that night i started spotting..i didnt worry..til the next day where i started bleeding profusely and passing huge clots. i have been bleeding ever since. havent gone to the dr. i dont have insurance at this time. i am at a loss. did i mention i wasnt due to have af til the 30? yes so its even weirder any suggestions as to what going on? i know the likely hood of a false positive is really slim but i took it 6 days before my af and then started bleeding almost instantly..was it a miscarriage. i have had horrible cramps and its been extremly draining! ugh advice to what may be going on with my body will be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!! please help!

hello everyone! I am so glad I found this site! I've read all of the entries and there are so many different situations!

I was on mirena for a yr then we decided to TTC. I had my period once right after it was put in and that was it. I had it removed 5/11. we are going to missouri 6/12 and wanted to conceive while there. our son has the story that he was conceived on our honeymoon so we wanted baby #2 to have a cool story too. my problem is my period has yet to come. I know it has only been 17 days but I'm impatient! I know it needs to come by tomorrow in order for me to ovulate while we are there. I have felt nauseauted (sp) off and on for at least a week, had some cramping and white discharge but no blood, and was very moody for about a day then was over it. it's too soon to be preggers right? we had 'relations' the day it was removed and at least every other day since. when we tried to conceive our first we didn't chart or anything and idk how long we stopped using condoms before we conceived. it happened very quickly tho.

I'm scared to have a miscarriage and I was diabetic while pregnant so as soon as I find out I'm preggers I have to go in and get tested. I am also rh negative so that was a concern but my dr said it shouldn't be a problem. I got my shots when I needed to. I'm just worried and impatient! anyone else have a similar situation? how long should I wait before taking a home test?

thanks for your help!

ps nikiswan: I have been extra frisky too! I don't think its because I want a baby, I've just been super turned on!

Ladies I have not had my period since March 1st and Just yesterday I finall got it back!! I never would have thought that I would be so happy to get it but it is hard TTC without it I hope now on that  this is a good sign for my husband and I.

by nickiswan, May 29, 2009 12:44AM
Majesstik-  Unfortunately it sounds like you are having a miscarriage.  I've had 2 friends go through very early miscarriages and your symptoms sound similar (bleeding, clots, cramping, fatigue).  The doctors didn't really do much for them so you may be ok to sit tight and not go to the doc right now.  I would just monitor the amount of bleeding you have.  If you're soaking through tampons/pads quickly and consistantly, you should see a doctor.  If you are bleeding a lot and start to feel light-headed, dizzy or weak you should see a doctor.  I'm really sorry that you have to go through this.

I've been on here for a while now. I had Mirena removed the first week of April and waited 1 full cycle to TTC, so everything might be ready to grow a healthy baby. This will be #2 for us. We were actively TTC in May but got my period. So now I am trying again. I am going through a lot of the same things you ladies are going through. I started a Blog, following my ups and downs of trying to get pregnant. It includes info on IUDs, miscarriage and waiting to test for pregnancy. I would love you guys to check it out and add your experiences. There are other women on it asking questions, so maybe you can help them too. Plus it helps pass the time when you are TTC!  It's pregger & Babers at blogger *******. http://preggersbabers.blogspot.com/
Baby dust to all, and hope to see you there!!

Hello ladies! Ive had my Mirana for 5 year got that one remove and another inserted the same day. I just had the second iud removed March 27. I start bleeding 2 days after removal and it lasted for 10 days. It wasn't a very heavy bleeding but it had clots as well. I don't think that was my period but I'm waiting for my next cycle. I wasn't as lucky as some of the women that didn't have a cycle at all. I have been experiencing alot of mood swings, and fatigue lately. I want to become preg but not so early due to the fear of miscarriage.

I had my mirena removed on the 4th of April, and still no period. HPT's are neg, and I am getting very frustrated. I dont have any symptoms, so I dont think I am either. I dont know what to do. It has almost been a month, and nothing. Not even a sign of a period. Just brown mucus after removal, and clear for a few days following. Any suggestions??

by tw1125, Jun 01, 2009 02:14PM
To: rossmommy
My suggestion prior to removal is to take some pain reliever.
It was painful being removed, but only for a few seconds.  It was much easier being removed than inserted!
Don't be too scared by some of the stories on here, remember women who never have problems probably aren't searching for sites like these!
I have been lucky, I got my IUD removed on April 27th and have my period on May 23rd.  Now i am just going with the flow,  it seems to always happen when you aren't waiting for it.  Good luck on conceiving #2!

To Melsonbymum3:  don't worry May 1st wasn't that long ago.  I too had the same pregnancy symptoms, I think our bodies are just changing coming off the mirena.  Good luck.

JRL:  I know that sounds frustrating maybe contact your doctor since it was been 2 months, I know some girls get something to "jump start" their periods.

Good luck ladies!

No I didn't have a miscarriage it just my cycle is missed up since I got my IUD out and hopefully everything will be back to normal and we can get back to TTC I have been to the Dr. is how I know and I also know that the first time getting pergo after an IUD is an increase chance of a miscarriage that why we are taking our time and waiting for my body to return to normal. I not in a big hurry for it to happen. We are hoping by this winter everything is normal for me.

Sorry, I wrote it wrong. I had the IUD out on May 4th, not April. I called the Dr yesterday, and she told me that I am better off to wait for a period then to get on the pill to "kick start" my cycle, because the return to fertility rate of the pill is longer, even if you are only on it a month. Im just stressed. I want to conceive by August at the latest. I know, It never goes as planned like that.

Helpppp!!!! I did have AF on the 25th of April after having Mirena removed on March 25th, but I am what im supposing 10 days late for this months AF.  Prior to Mirena, I had 30 day cycles and during Mirena I lost track b/c I never really had a period.  I do have some pregnancy symptoms, also could be pre AF symptoms, but I dont usually have this much nausea.  I do keep cramping and thinking ok here she comes, today is the day but NOT!!  Im not sure if the hormones from Mirena are still there or my body is STILL trying to regulate, all I know is that i am very frustrated right now.  I used OPK;s this last month and got a pos on the 9th and then started getting positives on the 15 thru the 25th, so late ovulation?  Does that equal late AF?  I took Hpt on the 25th and the 27th and they have been neg.  Im not sure what to do ladies?  I need some advice and Im hoping someone else is in the same boat so we can compare war stories!!  lol

Have a great day and thanks in advance!!

Ok, crazy story for you all!! I had IUD out on May 4th. I HAVE NOT had a period since then. HPT was positive today, so I went to planned parenthood, and sure enough!! I am pregnant!!!!  Got pregnant in the first month without a period, so all of you who are frustrated, there is hope. I am in shock still. My husband should be home soon. I cant wait to tell him. The Doc at PP was shocked that I got pregnant without a period and so soon. I do believe that I am at risk of miscarriage due to not having a period though. I wil continue to check in and talk to you all, because this forum has been the only thing to keep me sane the last month. Thank you and good luck to everyone, and I will check back in soon!!

So....I took a HPT this morning and it's positive!!!  I had my Mirena removed May 6.  I didn't really have a period after removal and now I'm completely worried about having a miscarriage.  Keep your fingers crossed for me.  I definitely won't be spreading the word about this for awhile.  At what point do you think I can stop worrying about miscarriage? I'll keep everyone posted.

Same thing happened to me. You had IUD out 2 days after me though!! I talked to my OB today, and she said that I am not at any higher rate of a miscarriage than anyone who would have had a period after IUD removal. I read on the internet that you are, due to the decreased uterine lining, however, I trust my DR, and she said all is fine, and not to stress. I have told a lot of people, because I could not wait. Wow, glad to hear there is someone else out there that had a crazy case too!!

Thanks for the encouraging words.  I honestly keep picturing myself just starting to cramp, bleed.....and you know the rest.  I'm not really stressing about it.  I'm just not allowing myself to get overly excited about it.  But I'm glad that your Doc gave  reassuring words.  It has been pretty hard not telling anyone.  I think I'm still gonna wait to tell people for another week or two.

wow, you and me have the same fear. I have been having some cramps, and the doctor said a little cramping is normal. Maybe I am imagining it, now that I know. I am a hair worried because she said as long as they are central and not specific to either side, it was ok, and they are mostly on the left side, but not painful at all, just feels like pressure I guess. It seems like my husband and mother in law have told everyone, so I hope all goes well or it will be hard to tell everyone. Im just so tired now. I work full time, and am a 3/4 time college student and married and a mother of a 9 year old, so I hope I can just relax and take it easy. Oh, I am also, along with the prenatal vitamins, taking DHA supplements. Apparently it is being recommended for healthy brain development now. It is Omega 3 Fatty Acids from Fish Oil.  Always something new.

Here I am...almost a month post removal and still no AF. We leave for Missouri Friday so I guess no Missouri baby for us! :( Who knows, maybe I'm one of those cases of no period and yet still conceive! I don't want to test yet because I'm afraid it's too early and don't want to be totally bummed. I will test by Fri for sure tho before our trip. My hubby is hoping that we are either preggers or can get preggers in MO. I never had my period while on Mirena so I can't even chart when I was ovulating. Wish us luck! I'll keep you posted!

I had my mirena removed on May 9th, I had intercourse the same day that it was removed. About 2-3days after I had a heavy period that lasted for about 3days. Which was a little early for me because my period was usually at the end of the month but I know that the iud can throw off your period So I'm not really concerned about that. But i haven't had a period since then. I am and have been ttc. Tomorrow will be a month of having the mirena removed and just like everybody else hope to have a success story soon. I took 2 hpt since the removal and all have been negative. I have a apt  with my doctor on the 27th wish me luck.

Well it happened! AF showed up today! yay! Of course it has to happen 3 days before we leave the state but oh well! At least I can chart now! haha. Luckily it hasn't been heavy like many woman have had (I was nervous!) but it is still semi early so who knows! It really seems light compared to what I had before I had my son but I haven't had a period in 2 years (well minus the one right after insertion) so I don't remember what they are like anymore! Hi Everyone! I’m happy to find a positive forum to discuss our Mirena's. I had mine for an exactly 3 years almost to the date :). A couple of weeks ago my daughter and husband were ganging up on me trying to convince me to have another. I finally gave in and had my Mirena removed on last Friday (6/5). I didn’t get a period until Saturday night right when we wanted to try. So we decided to wait and I still have light bleeding now. I hate periods and can't want till it’s gone. Then my husband wants a boy so we have been reading about ovulation and such. Anyways I was wondering how long it would take. Reading the stories is encouragement. I'm going to take the ovulation test tonight and see what it says. Hopefully I want have to have another period. :D

Hey i'm about to get my IUD taken out after 4 yrs.  What does it feel like to have it removed?

by Dollbaby69, Jun 10, 2009 02:55PM
I had my mirena in for a little over a year and just had it removed on May 5th, my period then came two days early on May 7th, bled for a full week and since then have not had another period. It has been 34 days now and as of last Sunday my 3rd pregnancy test has come up negative. So, just a waiting game, HPT are usually right so I expect it to show up soon. Hopefully, I'll get pregnant with my 3rd this summer, fingers crossed:)

I have been posting on this board since I got Mirena removed on April 13th, so basically I had one cycle before me and my hubby were TTC. Well I did get a BFP last week and about 4 days later I lost it so it was a chemical pregnancy, which means a very early miscarriage. Im sad but I also understand that it's because my uterin lining needs to get back to normal. The fortunate part is that I was able to pregnant right away off of Mirena. So here's to month 2 of TTC! Good luck ladies!

Well, I cant wait until my dr. appt on the 22nd. I talked to my Dr today, and she thinks i definately conceived the week I had my mirena out. That would make me 7 weeks. I am still crampy, and only started noticing the cramps a few days before finding out I ws pregnant. Dr. says its nothing to worry about, and they will do an ultrasound to figure out how far I am. i cant wait to know for sure. Hopefully I am the 7 weeks. Cramps are on my left side mostly, so hope all is ok. Anyone else have the same thing during pregnancy? I dont remember this with my first son. talk to you soon..

I had my IUD removed on 6/10. There was no pain or bleeding. It came right out. My question is how soon should I expect to conceive? I haven't had a period now for over 9 months. I did have the IUD in for 2 1/2 years. I was just curious on what to expect. If I havent spotted or anything yet, I am assuming that I wont until I get AF.  Any thoughts?

While I had the Mirena, I only had a few periods, and nothing even close to being consistant.  After my Mirena was removed (May 6) I think I spotted a couple days later for a day.  I can't really remember.  I was just going to consider May an impossible month to get pregnant so I didn't really keep track of anything.  I wasn't pushing my husband to have sex.  We just did whenever we felt like it, no pressure.  Although, as I mentioned in an earlier post, my sex drive did increase shortly after removal.  I wonder if that was when I was starting to ovulate (ya know, the body's own way of saying "it's time").

I decided to take a pregnancy test June 5 (a month after removal) because I was so exhausted.  One day I went to bed at 8:50 p.m., got up for work at 5:30a.m. (which is PLENTY of sleep) but was tired ALL day.  That never happens to me.  So the next day I woke up and took the test right away.  Shortly before that, the only symptoms I had wer that I felt like I was randomly hungry and had to pee more frequently.  Which I didn't really think anything of because I hadn't experienced those symptoms so early with my other 2 pregnancies.

So now I've known I'm pregnant for a week.  I haven't had any cramping or spotting.  I've been feeling tired and I'm feeling much hungrier this time around.  The hunger is so odd because it's usually the exact opposite in the very beginning.  I don't have a clue how far along I am, so I just have to wait until my first doc appointment at the end of the month.

If you want to know anything else, just let me know.  ( I still haven't told anyone, so it's nice to be able to talk about it here)    :)

I just had my mirena removed on 6/9. It felt like cramping for like 5 seconds then it was fine.

I'm 26 and dh and I are ttc for #2. My ds is Luke and he is going to be 3yrs old in august so, we think its time. I'm a little worried though because no one told me that you are not supposed to have relations for the 5 days before removal and dh and I did the night before I had it removed. I have had light spotting but nothing serious (considering I had my period on the mirena the week before). We were not planning on really trying for like 2 more weeks. Is it really necessary to wait till you have a full period?

Moms who got pregnant right away, how is your pregnancy coming along?

Goodmorning.....so you had the merina out may 6th and had sex here and there when ever you felt like it...but were not ttc during that month...well I wish I knew what was going on for me....I do know its way to early to tell until next month...I bleed for first 6 months but not a actual period. then after that I never had periods...I may have spotted here and there but nothing. My situation is I had sex before the removal of Iud on June 2 and had sex that same day after the removal and then again few times after that. So I am hoping that by july that I will concieve a POSITIVE...I know that I go to be before 930 every nite and get up before 630 am each and every day and I am tired still...I go to work and during my breaks and lunches I crash and lay my head down and literally fall asleep for 15 min to 30 mins...Did you say you kinda felt maybe you were pregnant at all? did you have the thought? My boobs dont even hurt at all yet, but with my other pregancy is comes little later....Will keep me posted on this and let me know what goes on for you and your appt with the dr....

So does your husband know what is going on?  so you just dont want to say anything to anyone to make sure all is good before you mention anything.?

keep me posted...I like talk to other women and seeing other peoples symptoms or questions....

well, me post from yesterday is incorrect. After thinking about it, my Dr is not right. I cannot be 7 weeks. I did not even have the mirena out 7 weeks ago!! I had it out on May 4th, and I do remember having sex on the 7th, and honestly, we were not ttc yet, so I dont think we had sex but once a week after that!! Wow, I must be fertile!!  I am guessing I got pregnant that first week, and am 5 weeks along. I was urinating frequently, but if I wqas not ttc, I never would have known I was pregnant. I had Dr call me in a prescription thought I had a UTI. Guess not. No other symptoms though.

by nickiswan, Jun 12, 2009 02:56PM
To jrl09:
If you think that you conceived during that first week and it's been 5 weeks since, then you would be considered 7 weeks.  They count from the first day of your last period as the start of your pregnancy (typically 2 weeks prior to actually conceiving).  So the day you conceive, you're actually already considered 2 weeks pregnant.  Silly eh?

To 36momof3:
My husband knows we're pregnant.  I was concerned about miscarriage because I didn't have a period after removal of the Mirena, so we weren't telling anyone.  It's been a week since my positive test and I am becoming less worried about miscarriage as more time passes.

I had an idea that I was pregnant because I had to pee more often and felt strong hunger.  But the day that I was sooo exhausted after a full night's sleep was the sign that made me take the test.  My breasts only got sore with my first pregnancy.  With my second, and with this one, they don't feel different.

Good luck!

So... I had my mirena IUD taken out in February. I've been told by doctors that any kind of birth control, especially used over a long period of time (i had mine a year and a half) can make it take several months to a year for your body to get back into its normal pattern before you will be able to conceive. But, you guys are saying it's possible before then?

I'm just curious because I moved a little while ago about 200 miles from my usual home, and before I left, my may aswell be back together boyfriend and I weren't safe... and i believe I'm quite late for my period. But I don't want to go wasting more money on another pregnancy test. I have one left, but waiting day by day by day to figure out when I should use it.

Everytime I think I might be, I use one, and then the next day my period starts.

I dunno... I just thought maybe I'm just not able to get pregnant right now because of the bc.

can someone shed any light on this situation please?

by breezie26, Jun 15, 2009 06:34AM

If you say you are already quite late for your period, you can teat now. If it's negative, you probably aren't pregnant. I hope everything works out for you.

Everyone,

Update from Breezie... I waited a month after having Mirena removed to make sure my body is ready for baby #2. Last month, my hubby and I worked pretty hard at TTC and I got my period. Now I am at the two week wait to test. I hope it worked this month. I can't wait to be blessed again.
GOOD LUCK LADIES... OUR TIME WILL COME :)

I had my Mirena removed on March 5th after having it for about 3 years.  I began Mirena after using Depo-Provera for 6 years.  I only had slight pain and no bleeding when the Mirena was removed.  I start AF on March 28th.  I had AF again 28 days later (April 25th) then 30 days after (May 25th) that.  For the month of April and May I tried Basal Temping with no luck.  This month (June) I have moved on to CM testing and OPK.  I am currently on day 22 of my cycle and according to both the OPKs and CM I have not ovulated yet.

i just removed my iud a few days ago and started right away ttc 4 my second baby.  i wanna thank everyone 4 sharing their experiences, i've really learned a lot. the dr. says it's ok 2 ttc right away and evidently u don't even need a period. the iud was an awesome birth control method i decided 2 use, there were no problems b4 or after. i also got pregnant on my birth control pills with my 1st son- so there r plenty of open doors 2 getting pregnant anytime. God bless everyone!

Hi everybody.
I'am 27 years old.I have one child, he is 8 years old. I'am TTC baby #2. I had the IUD for 18 months, had it removed June 4th. I bled on the 5th then spotted for about 3 days. then nothing. I've had intercourse almost every other day since the removal, and i've had pregnancy symptoms ever since the removal. From what I hear from you ladies, this is common after removal, not sure is it ??? Well I did a HPT on the 12th, but obviously it was too soon  (negative). Wonder if I should do another test or should I just wait till next month, and see if i get AF. I'm trying not to get stressed about it, but these symptoms are starting to drive me crazy, I really want 2B pregnant already, to excuse the symptoms. It was nice to vent, thank you all for sharing. Will keep you posted.

I have been reading all of your blogs and have really learned a great deal.  Thank you all for your valuable input.  I have had my Mirena in for over 5 years and because I've been so busy with work, haven't been able to get it removed until my appointment next Monday.  I am a little nervous, because my hubby and I are hoping to conceive soon.  I'm 40 years old and have 2 sons already from a previous marriage. My new guy and I would like to have a child of our own.  Not only am I nervous about not being able t.c., I'm also worried about complications with age.  I'll try to keep you all posted as my journey begins.

To: **Everyone,
To anwser the main question asked here...
I had Mirena out for 3 months. The first month we didn't TTC, just to make sure my uterus is ready after the iud. The second month we actively tryed to conceive, and I had symptoms of pregnancy (but I think I just wanted it so badly) and got my period. And yesterday I jumped the gun and took a pregnancy test ( really early, I was going to wait till Saturday) and It was positive!!! OMG I am preggo!! It's still really early and I've lost 2 pregnancies before having my son. So I hope baby #2 sticks!! Wish me luck and I'll keep you updated. So, it took me 3 months to conceive after using Mirena.
GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF YOU!!
I know it's hard being patient

This is very common when you want to conceive badly. I think we "talk ourselves into it." I did not have a period afte IUD removal, and got pregnant the first month, and actually, I think it was te first week!! I will know more on Monday at my Dr appt, and she already said I will have an ultrasound to see how far along I am. I am soooo stressed out right now cause  have no insurance, and Vermont guidelines are so strict, it is impossible for a working family to get help. I kwork full time and am a 3/4 time college student, and cannot get affordable insurance for the pregnancy.  I am sooooo excited about this pregnancy, and cannot wait to see the heartbeat on the monitor at the ultrasound!! I will post soon, and good luck to all TTC!!

We made it back safely from MO! Yay! AF lasted a whole 3 days then I had some minimal spotting Fri/Sat. I didn't have any cramps the whole time which never happens. I hope it was a real period so we can get pregnant this month! It wasn't as heavy as I had before Mirena so I don't know if it's normal or not. Everyone else on here said theirs was heavy the 1st time after removal. Time will tell huh?

I was just wondering, what does DH mean? Da hubby? lol I see it a lot but was unsure of it's meaning!

Good luck to everyone and keep posting so we can go through this together! We are a team right? :D

Husband and I have a little girl who is 3 next month so think thats a nice age gap. Dr said its safe to try straight away (we live in UK). Like a previous poster I also have IBD (crohns disease/ulcerative colistis) so I am on some medications I have to stay on to maintain remission but have been told they are safe. well I had my IUD out on April 6th and didn't have a period till June 9th and people were right about the first period after an iud removal man that was bad but now I know that I am getting back on track so we have a better chance. I was so stressed out about not having a period and all the hpt were neg that when I called the doc they said they would not worried till it has been three months after I had the iud out and still haven't had a period so for the girls out there that are waiting for the period and if it has been three months I would call you doc and if it hasn't been three months it could be just around the corner. Good luck to everyone and I will keep you in touch with when I get a positive test result.

I had my Mirena removed on 1/20 with no pain & only very light spotting that afternoon. I had it put in in 11/2006 after my son was born on 8/31/2006. I never had AF visit & there was no pain.

AF came with a vengence on 2/25. I had thought I was pregnant since my breasts were huge for over a week & I had had alot of nausea. Anywho, the bleeding was heavy & non-stop for 4-5 days. That didn't happen after I gave birth...either time!!! Before Mirena, I had only had enough bleeding to fill a liner for 2-3 days so I was horrified & totally unprepared. Sorry ladies, but that's the way it was.

So, I was terrified at the idea that I would have have AF come visit again. My husband & I made like bunnies for the few days that I was supposed to have cycled. However, AF came again on 4/5. This time she was her regular self so I was extremely relieved.

That was the last time I saw AF. It has been 76 days & she hasn't even shown a single hint of coming. Three tests have all told me that there's no baby either.

Do you think I should worry? I don't have any other indicators that say something could be wrong. I've never had regular cycles, unless I was on BC, but even then, I don't recall any lasting this long.

Thoughts anyone?

I had mine removed the end of Nov 2007 to try to get pregnant with our 3rd. My husband left for boot camp a week before Xmas and graduated Feb 15th. I found out I was pregnant with our 3rd March 17th, 2008 only 2 days after my sons 1st birthday. I am not sure if that is normal, as I am VERY fertile but I cant imagine it taking very long. Good luck!!!

I did not really have any symptoms of pregnancy. I think you could test now, because my Dr. at planned parenthood told me that their test picks up on pregnancy as early as 14 days after a missed period. Were your periods regular before the mirena? I bought my tests at the dollar store, so it was only costing me like $ 4-5 a week to test. lol, I think I have ocd or something!! But, the test worked. I have secured insurance, but it is fairly expensive. Im not sure what my plan of action is now, but I def do not agree with the way our system is running. There are people all over my town wo do not work, and just sit back with5 kids collecting benefits and get everything, and someone like me who works full time and is also a college student, cannot get anything at all. It is just not fair. There is not incentive to work in this state. Im almost at the point of realizing that I "cannot afford to work." How wrong is that? But after paying daycare for my son, gas to get to work, insurance, It would be cheaper for me to get done work, have no daycare, and be able to collect benefits. Too bad I hav pride i guess!! Sorry for the complaining, back to positive news!! I have a dr appt tomorrow, and am super excited but nervous, been hearing lots of miscarriages stories lately. I will cross my fingers!!

Ok, I have read all the bulletins and as most of you, I am thrilled to see there are others like me out there. LoL.  So I had my IUD removed on 05/15/09 after having it for almost 4 years (3 months shy) and bled immediately and when I say immediately I am talking within a few hours. I bled straight through till 05/29/09 from light spotting to heavy bleeding. When I had IUD my AF was non existent, maybe a few spotting times here and there but no defined flow. My husband and I have not been actively trying but we haven't been being "careful" either, but I would be elated to get pregnant. Might I add a SIGNIFICANT increase in my sex drive, I was pretty sure my husband was about ready to crack from lack of nookie before I had this thing removed. Anywho, I want to know if it is too early to take a pregnancy test? I took one 06/21/09 and it was negative, but when I tell you I am tired, nauseated, and want vinegar on everything (yuck but oh so mmmm, lol) it has me kinda confused.
Please help me unscramble this mess of thoughts in my head.

I got pregnant within a week or two of having my IUD out. I think I am almost 9 weeks. Ultrasound on Wednesday will confirm the dates. Look for signs of ovulation right after removal, because it could be any day, and you do not have to have a period before getting pregnant. I obviously did not. Good Luck!!

Sorry, I hit enter rushing to type this out before getting up and running to the bathroom as I have been doing very often lately since I TOO AM PREGGO! Yaye... It was nice to see you had a positive test also. I am not scheduled to go my OB/GYN office until Thursday @ 9:30 AM to test with a nurse. Then based on results I will be able to meet with my OB/GYN for the first ultrasound. I am so excited yet I have only of course shared this joy with my fiance and ALL of you here as this is my safety spot, comfort zone, and support system. As coming off the Mirena and TTC to conceive can be stressful and reading what others are going thru or went thru helps alot. I am still going to wait a few months before I spread the joy to my family as I would LOVE to tell my four year NOW but we said we would share the joy and explain to her what is going on when I am 3-4 months along.

Well I shall return soon and BEST OF LUCK TO EVERYONE! BABY DUST...

Here's an update from me in case anyone reads my last post & is also experiencing not having a period for literally months after IUD removal (see 6/19 post).

AF finally came 85 days after the 1st day of her last visit. I am relieved, but also a little sad because I was hoping that I'd eventually ovulate & become pregnant. As my cycles have now grown increasingly longer, I can see that I'm going to have problems trying to conceive again. :-(  My spouse & I are not ready to look into fertility treatments anytime soon, so I guess I'll just have to be patient for now.

Anyways, glad to see so many other people are not having the same problems as me, but I hope that the one woman who is, sees my posts & knows she is not alone. :-)

hey ladies!

here's a recap of my story:

had mirena removed 5/11 after a yr. got AF 6/9. it lasted 3 or so days but was not as heavy as usual. I'm unsure if it was a real period or what...figured my ovulation was between sun-fri last wk (according to babycenter.com) so we had relations almost every nite. I was curious about when I should test? b4 mirena my cycle was 31 days but it came like 29 days after removal. I am super excited to find out. I hope we r! I have been feeling sick but since I got a semi-period the 9th figured it was just the heat.

thanks for ur help! baby dust!

Ok so I jumped the gun and took a hpt on Monday and it was negative. So I was a little dissappointed and will wait again. My dh suggested that we just buy Monday evening but I just said if I had it in the house i would probably take it before next week. Trying to wait. Wondering also if i would get AF next week. Curious since  I had my IUD removed June 5 and my AF came June 6th.

I'm guessing if July 6th comes and go with no AF then I'll take another test. Wish me luck!

Hey all,

Sorry its been a while since last post, but not too much to tell at this point.  I am so very excited for all of you have gotten your BFP's!!  It gives me hope that mine will come soon.  This is our 3rd month ttc and hoping that this is the month!  I am in the TWW right now and due to everything going awry last month, im not sure when to expect AF.  Im pretty sure I o'd on the 24th or so which seems really late in my cycle, my last AF was June 5th thru the 9th, but well see.  According to my chart I am not due for AF until the 12th or so.  Anyone else want to hurry up and wait with me?  LOL

Just wanted to join you ladies and obsess with you.  I get my IUD out tomorrow.  I'm excited and nervous.  I'm not looking forward to this massive bleeding I've read about here, but I know to go get tampons and be prepared, LOL. This will be baby number 5 for us. The first for DH and I together, as we have a blended family.  How are all of the preggo girls here doing?  May I commiserate with those of you who are still TTC??  Thanks all,

Heather

So I had mine removed when my second was 2 1/2 and said we would try until she was in kindergarten to get pregnant since we were told that we would never get pregnant again after our first, so I went to my midwife and had it removed and she said some people get pregnant within a week of having them removed, and I said Ok, since I knew it wouldn't take that long, knowing how long it took for my daughter to come to us. So I had it removed and the next day I started my period and it was heavy, and it lasted a week and I called my nurse and she said it was normal to do that, but it usually didn't happen that soon after removal. Then by week two I was pregnant with our 3rd. I feel if its meant to happen it will, plus stress plays a HUGE roll too. I didn't stress about getting pregnant because I was told I wouldn't have anymore after my first and I got pregnant 4 years later and then just left it up to the big guy upstairs, and it did happen. I pray it will happen to all of you as well. Just relax and enjoy it, It will happen when it is supposed to. Something that really helps too is prop your butt up on a pillow during intercourse and then stay lying there for awhile so the sperm can travel. It really helps.
