I REALLY need help!!

by 2_sweet, Nov 07, 2006 12:00AM
Because you girls have such great advice, I thought I'd post a question out here.  I went to a hypnosis seminar yesterday for both smoking and weight loss.  I'm about going CRAZY!!  I don't think it worked very well, because it was supposed to help remove the desire to want to smoke.  I really want to smoke bad! I'm tired because I was up every hour on the hour last night.  I didn't get **** done at work today because I couldn't focus.  I feel like I could just sit and bawl, and I'm really NOT a crier.  I wonder if I should just smoke the darned cig and be done with it?!?!?!  Ladies, I'm obviously an addict and need help.  Any ideas?

if you are wanting to quit then dont give in! i understand i smoke. im getting ready to quit i picked thanksgiving weekend. i was curious about hypnosis. maybe you could get something to chew on and try a patch

by sk2006a, Nov 07, 2006 12:00AM
i have a friend who used hypnosis for quitting smoking.  at first she thought it was ridiculous and not working, but she kept at it and eventually thought it helped.  unfortunately, that awful concept of will power still has to work (i think mine is broken ) ) keep at it and good luck :)

by PGB, Nov 07, 2006 12:00AM
Good luck!  I applaud anyone who has enough will power to quit!  I obviously don't!  Try some hard candy, it wouldn't help me much, but it did my aunt.  Or maybe cut off a straw and "pretend" like we did when we were kids.  Won't have the same effect, but something to keep your hands busy.

by shewasthesun, Nov 07, 2006 12:00AM
Oh you are brave. I am trying to quit smoking. the patch only made my stomach and chest hurt. I have not thought about hypnosis. Good luck!

by tinydancer112, Nov 07, 2006 12:00AM
stay stong!!! my dad use to smoke while wearing the patch. it made me never want to try a cigarette and i never have, so i don't know what your going through but i can imagine! i wish you luck. some people start off by doing less and less...have you tried that already?

by sdp4314, Nov 07, 2006 12:00AM
I know it's difficult as I have quite numerous times...LOL  I have smoked on and off for years, terrible I know, as I usually turn to it in a stressful situation, that and a Snicker's bar.  If you really want to quit it will happen for you.  It might take several times and then something will just click.

A friend of mine used "Smoke Away" that she ordered on TV and everytime she tried to light up, it made it taste awful. It worked for her and she smoked a pack a day.

I gave up ordering from products from TV.  I am famous for not putting them to use, like my "Windsor Pilate's" discs that have basically collected dust! LOL

I know this wasn't much help, but I thought it would atleast make you giggle.

Shawn

by PGB, Nov 07, 2006 12:00AM
I know it's not an immediate help, but my brother quit not long ago & I called him to see how.  He ordered Smoke Away off of Ebay.  Sorry I don't know any more tricks.

Hey, if we're going for a giggle, how about only smoking after s*x?  (I imagine my husband would love it if I tried that one.  Saw it on TV, can you believe it?)

by 2_sweet, Nov 07, 2006 12:00AM
Thanks for the advice, guys.  This is crazy.  My dad went to this same guy in June.  He was boasting about how EASY it's been for him (He smoked 2-3 packs a day!).  So of course, I'm thinking it would be easy for me too?!?!?!  And to top it off, between my dad and I, we had recruited 7 people - two who are girls that I work/carpool with.  Both of them broke down on the way home tonight and bought a pack.  THIS did not help me in the least.  I totally want to go to my dad's (Honestly, I DO love him), but I want to get in his face and call him a LIAR!!  hahahaaaaa  All joking aside - he's LUCKY it was easy for him - because the 7 of us are struggling.

Sailors - Believe me....I could "chew on" something right now!!  Like the person that was on my tail on the way home (or so I thought), my dog that didn't look at me quite right when I GOT home, my kids, who of course wanted DINNER - you get the picture.  This is harder than I could even imagine.

sk2006a (I love the A after your name - hee hee)! - I hear you on the willpower.  I used to have it, but must have misplaced it.

PGB - good idea on the straw, although we used to use French fries to "smoke" when we were kids.   Hmmm....I LOVE fries!!  See??  Maybe I shouldn't try both of these (smoking and weight loss) at once.  I'm really scared of gaining any more weight!

Everyone else - thank you SO much for your encouraging words and ideas.

I'll be back and let you know how it's going!!  Aaarrrrghhhhhh......the store is calling me.........

Now THAT one cracked me up.  That's what I told my fiance (who is trying this as well) - that every time we want a cigarette, we should just do the nasty!!  Dang!  How fun could THAT be???  We're both so ornery right now (yes.....I said ORNERY!) that's not going to happen.  Fun thought though.

by PGB, Nov 07, 2006 12:00AM
Glad I could help!  Can you imagine the baby boom we would have if we all tried to quit that way?  I guess instead of buying cigs. we could all buy stock in the company that makes trojans though!

by 2_sweet, Nov 07, 2006 12:00AM
Can you just imagine???  ha-ha  It sounded like a lot of fun when I suggested it (I was smoking at the time).  Now it doesn't sound like as much fun.  Hopefully, once I get past this grouchy phase (is it ever over??   ex-smokers????), I'll feel a little more human.  Cripe.  This is just one more time that I should have listened to my parents.

by PGB, Nov 07, 2006 12:00AM
To: 2_sweet
For goodness sake don't admit that to them!  That would be like telling your fiance he was right!  You would never hear the end of it.  NEVER.  Nope.  That would be a bad idea.  Very bad.

And now that I think about it, the trojan idea isn't so good either, we'd loose all our money when everybody sued us for all the broken condoms!

by sdp4314, Nov 07, 2006 12:00AM
To: pgb
That's a good idea! LOL

Where did you see that on TV?

I don't even remember.  I just remember this woman was trying to quit smoking & didn't have anyone special so that's how one of her friends suggested she quit.  I thought it was pretty cruel at the time, she didn't have anybody to do the dead with!  Now, however, the idea strikes me as kinda funny.

by sdp4314, Nov 07, 2006 12:00AM
To: pgb
Well it sounded like a fine idea to me.  I was just talking about quitting again with my fiance....I'll think I will mention it to him...LOL

This place is a hoot!  I've been catching up on the events and then the stuff with Miguel too.  Of course I had to check out his spot on myspace.  What a riot!

by PGB, Nov 07, 2006 12:00AM
To: sdp4314
Ha! Yeah, I had to go check that out myself.  That was just about the time that my 9 year old walked up!  I was reading the one the other day on the Relationships (I think) about the guy wanting to tie weights to his b**ls.  I laughed so hard I thought I was going to die.  Of course my kids thought I was crazy sitting at the computer by myself laughing like a hyena!

I know!  That cracked me up as well.  This site is soooo addicting.  My fiance walked up on me while I was reading one of the mastur....ing threads and I think he suspects I'm visiting naughty sites! LOL

I really want to help people if I can based on personal experience, but the stuff people come up with leaves me speechless.

by 2_sweet, Nov 07, 2006 12:00AM
Yeah, this site is great.  There are a lot of great people with great advice!  AND some really funny stories to boot!
Well, I've talked to everyone that attended the seminar yesterday.  Almost ALL have smoked again.  I probably shouldn't have talked to everyone.  Now I want one even worse.  Hmmm.....is 7:15 too early to go to bed?  ;-)

by sdp4314, Nov 07, 2006 12:00AM
To: 2-sweet
Yeah, it's too early.  You can stay here and chat with us.  I think we are the only one's left.  We can be supportive!  Right pgb?

by girl522, Nov 07, 2006 12:00AM
Just wanted to let you know that after 3 days the nicotine is not in your system anymore.  So any cravings or feelings you are having are psychological after 3 days.  After 3 days it's not withdrawls just a habit.  The best thing to do is stay away from situations you would normally smoke for a little while like a bar etc...Try to chew gum that will keep your mouth busy.  Try to adopt a work out plan if you can.  I notice when I work out, I don't have an urge to smoke afterwards.

by 2_sweet, Nov 07, 2006 12:00AM
Thanks, guys.  I'm feelin' a little blue.

by PGB, Nov 07, 2006 12:00AM
Oh yeah.  Very supportive.
2_sweet DO NOT READ ANY MORE OF MY POST PLEASE

You do realize that it took me so long to post back because I had to have one myself?  Too much talk about it & I smoke outside because of son's allergies.

by sdp4314, Nov 07, 2006 12:00AM

I understand.  My brother has cancer of the larnyx (sp) and currently is breathing from a hole in his neck and cannot talk.  Everytime I want to smoke, I try to visualize how awful he looked after they did an emergency tracheotomy on him and he was on a respirator.

Not trying to depress you even more....it just makes you think.

I can relate!  I just got back from Vegas Sunday night and I smoked the whole weekend!  If you don't in the casinos...you choke!  What was gross is when I came home and unpacked...all of belongings wreaked!!!

I of all people shouldn't be smoking.  My father died from lung cancer a few years ago.  I have bronchitus (bronchitis) all the time.  I have sinus problems really bad.  I also had pneumonia(sp) 9 years ago when I was pregnant w/my first.  I REALLY need to quit, I just don't have the will power.  I keep telling myself & hubby when I get over some of my medical problems I will.  We'll see.

by 2_sweet, Nov 07, 2006 12:00AM
Okay.....this is sad.  I just smoked two VERY short butts that I found.  OMG.  I smoked BUTTS!!!!   Jeez.....  hahahaaa

by PGB, Nov 07, 2006 12:00AM
To: 2_sweet
Okay, now I really do admire you.  Butts are NASTY smelling little boogers.

by sdp4314, Nov 07, 2006 12:00AM
To: pgb
Yes, you do need to.  Especially with that bronchitis.  I can relate with the never ending sinus problems.

We all sound intelligent here don't we?  We all know better and yet we still do it.  What is wrong with us?????

When my late husband was dx with renal cell cancer, naturally we quit immediately. My stress level was so high at the time that I turned to food for comfort. (bad idea) Naturally I went back to smoking.  Ugh!

by 2_sweet, Nov 07, 2006 12:00AM
Yeah....I feel a little better now.  But I also have some reasons that I SHOULD quit.  I also have had pneumonia - 2x as a kid and 2x as an adult.   My mom is kinda hooked to a nebulizer to help her breathe - every 6-7 hours!!  It stinks!!  Then she still SMOKES in between!  That's my future if I continue smoking, I'm sure.  You'd think that would be enough.

And yes.....the butts are nasty, but they'll do in a pinch.  :-)

I'm worried about turning to food, too.  I can't afford to gain any more weight!

You know, when I posted that last one, I thought, "Man it sounds stupid to think it, it REALLY sounds way worse to see it in print!"

I have been on steroids(sp?) all summer and they have definately  put the weight on!  I sure wouldn't need any more!

by sdp4314, Nov 07, 2006 12:00AM
To: pgb
Not stupid......I understand totally.  I battle the bulge myself.  I bet I have 4 sizes of clothes in my closet.  I can always tell when I have "quit" smoking...LOL

Oops, I responded to sweet's...LOL....duh!

We may have lost her....I hope she didn't go to get a pack!

by PGB, Nov 07, 2006 12:00AM
To: sdp4314
Lord, please don't let her be outside picking up more butts to smoke.  No telling whose lips have been on those.

by sdp4314, Nov 07, 2006 12:00AM
Gosh I hope not!  I don't think we helped her though.

by PGB, Nov 07, 2006 12:00AM
Guess not if she was smoking butts.  Well, we know not to start a stop smoking support group.  We suck.

by sdp4314, Nov 07, 2006 12:00AM
Yeah, we do.  I just had one myself.....oh well.

by 2_sweet, Nov 07, 2006 12:00AM
You didn't lose me, and you don't suck!!!  I'm here!  And I did NOT go buy a pack....yet.

by PGB, Nov 07, 2006 12:00AM
Well shoot.  Guess I'll go have one myself.  Maybe she'll let us know in a few.  Hey!  Maybe she just went for a bathroom break!

by 2_sweet, Nov 07, 2006 12:00AM
OMG, girls....you crack me up!!!  The butts I found were mine!!  hahahaaa   Makes me think of the people downtown where I work going through the ashtrays picking out the butts.  Gross.  At least I know only MY lips were on those little nasty tasting butts!  hahahahaaa

Yea!  You are here.  Good, I'm glad you didn't go to the store.  I am watching Gilmore Girls....I think I'm the only 41 year old that watches that show.........and checking for messages.

How you holdin' up?

I'm holding up pretty well, but the desire to run to the store is really getting to me.  I'm thinking maybe I really should go to bed and read or something.  My 17 year old says "Please don't mom.....do this for me and Dan (my other boy) and yourself".  Guilt trip....

by sdp4314, Nov 07, 2006 12:00AM
Oh, the guilt spiel.....my favorite.  I use it all the time to get my way...LOL

by PGB, Nov 07, 2006 12:00AM
I'm back now.  Nice to see you're still with us.  I was about to decide you were "doing IT" so you could have one.  And my hubby tries that guilt **** all the time.  Doesn't work on me.  I hope it does on you though.

by sdp4314, Nov 07, 2006 12:00AM
Reading in bed might not be a bad idea.  If it doesn't work for you check back tomorrow or later ....apparently there is always someone out here wanting to chat.

Rest well
