I am 35 weeks and 1 cm dilated

So i went to the doctor today and she checked me out. She said that i have started to dilate. I am at 1 cm. She also said that she could feel his head when she was checking. Which is kind of creepy. But she asked if i have felt contractions. this is my first baby so i wasn't really sure. I feel some cramps sometimes and i definitely feel him down there. Its like he is pushing to come out. She said he defiantly wants out and that i am having contractions. But nothing beyond that. She just told me to come back next week. But she had mentioned that according to my cycle my due date is March 31st...but she stated that her mid wife put in notes that my first ultrasound showed that i should be due March 20th. Today was the first day i saw my OBGYN and not the mid wife. So i know you can be dilated from a one for like 4 weeks but i am afraid that it is much sooner now...i have so much to do...so i am not really sure what my question is but if you have any advice or comments please let me know. THanks

so i ended up going into labor on wednesday! they gave me three shots to stop the labor. But told me i was still having contractions every 15-20 minutes. but sent me home. It is now Friday and my mucus plug just came out. I think its gross. Its like blowing your nose out your vagina. LOL sorry. How long after your mucus plug comes out does it usually take? Thanks for the reply redheadaussie!

I have had 3 children. My last I was at 42 weeks..(little bugger didn't want to come out!) and was 8 cms dilated with no pain! My other two were similar but around 38 weeks I was nearly 3cms with 2nd child. I had slight back ache but put it down to being so huge in the pregnancy.
The baby will come when it is good and ready. That's my advice. Often the body does stop and start kind of contractions. (Believe me, when they REALLY come you will know!)  If it comes in a day, that's the way it is, if it comes in a week or a month, again, nature does what nature does and you will not be able to stop it! Many babies are born way ahead of the 'due dates'
  Best of luck!
