I am having hot flashes and night sweats and its been 12 years since my hysterectomy.

Hi, I had a hysterectomy 12 years ago for Endometriosis, they took EVERYTHING OUT.  I took hormones for 8 years then 4 years ago I stopped taking any hormone and have been fine until just recently.  In November of 2007, I had surgery, I had the Whipple surgery for pancreatitis.  So they removed the head of my pancreas, etc.  Ever since then I have been getting horrible hot flashes and having night sweats.  The hot flashes make me feel like I am melting, lol, I get hot and start sweating, its horrible.  I wake up in the night and am wringing wet because of the night sweats.  Some have mentioned that it is probably menopause, etc....but why would i not have them before now/  I dont really want to take a hormone like Premarin, I just want the hot flashes to go away.......any suggestions?  IF I take something Over the Counter, for hot flashes, does anyone have a recommendation of what I should take
