I know this isn't where I need to post this but.......

PGB
Okay, I already posted this over in Maternal/Child or whatever, but now I can't get back in that forum, don't know what's up with that.  But I have another question now too.  My 9 year old son fell and hit his mouth on his bed today and broke one of his bottom front teeth and knocked the tooth next to it loose.  It also busted his lip up pretty good.  His lip had swollen some and stopped.  Now it is swelling more.  And getting stiff.  He is having trouble talking because it is so stiff and swollen.  I have tried ice for swelling but he can't stand anything cold anywhere near his mouth because it makes the teeth hurt more.  (I had some Tylenol #3 of his that I gave him for the pain earlier and as long as we don't put anything cold near them and as long as he doesn't try to eat he's okay.  He's going to live off of oatmeal, creamed potatoes, and apple sauce until Monday when dentist opens back up I suppose.)  Any suggestions on what to do about the swelling BESIDES cold?  He just can't stand the cold because of the pain to his teeth.  Thanks guys.

Just wanted to say I'm glad he's feeling a little better.  I was thinking about your little guy this weekend.  My son is a bit of a daredevil too and we are looking into getting him pretty much the same bed.  Scared me a bit, but I guess that's what happens with kids, they fall, especially boys.  Can't believe I have another one on the way.  Anyway, hope your little guy is doing better and that the dentist appt. comes and goes quickly for him!

The tooth wasn't very loose because it tightened back up last night while he was sleeping.  His lip is still stiff, but I gave him carmex  to put on it and it helped to loosen it up and it must not have burned the cuts.  Both of the teeth are still really sensitive to cold, though.  He told me a few minutes ago that he will be glad when Monday gets here so we can call the dentist.  Makes me glad that I have always made sure to keep them in a dentist chair every 6 monthes and that we always used a dentist good with kids.

My youngest is the daredevil too.  Must be something about being the youngest that makes them that way?

at this age they will most likely use a tooth colored filling to fix the tooth. will be temporary (depending on the amount chipped and condition of the nerve) until he is about 18. at that point they can put a crown on it if needed. dentist dont like to crown at this age because the tooth isnt completly erupted yet. so would be an expensive fix every few years. youth has its ways of healing very quick. there are kits you can buy to keep at home, they have a solution you place the tooth into (should it come completly out) and helps the dds to place back in. doesnt always work but its cool to see!!

What if ya put something to cover his teeth? then put the ice on. frozen pea's do great. they move and arn't as hard as an icepack. He's gonna have to put something on it. i have to fight my kids too. My youngest is such a dare devil. She is alwasy doin something to get hurt. This summer she startd her bike on top of the hill so she could go faster. she took off and couldn't stop. She rean right into a tree. Half of the tree was dead and a limb went right in to her chest. Just enough to make it bleed and give me a stroke. It left a scar and will never be able to show clevage. Kids will scare the socks off ya!!  She also wrecked her bike and busted her lip. I had to fight to swelling too. I told her her lip would stay like that if she didn't getthe swelling down. she said the frozen pea's didn't hurt as bad. She has a scar from that one too. People probablyu think I beat her or something! She just isn't scred of anything! I could tell  MANY stories, but flash backs suck!

I noticed her comments were gone too.  Somebody must have been offended by something she said and wrote to complain.  Some people are very sensitive on here!

I did notice all of her posts were gone.  What's up with that?  Why do they keep deleting them?

He's sitting here watching "Cars"  right now.  He's still mad at me though, because of the whole ice pack fiasco.  He thinks I have it in for him.

Not tonight, I'm afraid.  His lip is cut in 2 places and bruised pretty badly.  And it is getting pretty stiff too.  Him and his younger brother have one of those bunk beds that are twin on top and full on bottom and are made out of iron.  He tripped over his boot and fell and popped his mouth really good on the bed.  He just got hit in the mouth this summer with a baseball in a fastpitch game and knocked both of these same teeth loose and they tightened back up.  Now this.  Someone upstairs just doesn't want him to have these teeth.

It's always a little slow on holidays and weekends around here.

I hope he feels better soon- trauma to the mouth can be so excrutiating...I guess because of all the soft tissue in there, but I feel for him!! If the cold hurts, I guess he won't go for a popscicle, huh?

He's convinced I'm trying to kill him I think!  I tried to put an ice pack on his lip and that made his teeth start hurting again.  I'll have to wait until the Tylenol #3(codeine) wears off to give him anything else.  God love him he has luck like his mama!  Let's hope he out-grows it.

Where is everyone? This place has been dead all day!

Here's the direct link to your other thread:

http://www.medhelp.org/forums/maternal/messages/45907.html

I knocked out a front tooth, half of one beside it, and a corner of the one beside that when I was 12. The dentist fitted me with a "flipper" for the missing tooth- it's a tooth on a retainer. He was able to repair the partially broken ones. After I turned 17, he put in a permanent bridge with a veneer.

If the pain and swelling doesn't get better, you could always take him to the ER.

You poor thing, when it rains it pours, huh?

He needs an anti-imflamatory like Advil, Motrin or Aleve.  Depending on his weight, one pill might be enough and take per directions on bottle.  I think every 4 - 6 hours for Advil/Motrin.
