I may be pregnant, I am some symptoms, but test is negative. need advise

My fiance and I have been trying for the past weeks trying to get pregnant.  We had sex the the week of Jan 8th right after my period ended. We then went the following week (week of the 15th) with no sex. I think I may have been ovulating at that time.   Now we are doing it every other day. Well for the past week in a half I have been tired, eating more then normal and have gained at least 10lbs, which is not normal for me.   I also have just started to get a little soreness in my breasts.  I have taken 2 pregnancy tests and both came out negative.  Is there a chance that i can still be pregnant???. The preg test i took was a cheap store brand.  I had an obgyn appt last friday and my dr said that you can test 10 days after conception or wait till a missed period.  Well I guess my questions are, can i still be pregnant even if i took a cheap store brand test? Or is it best to really wait till after I miss a period?? With all the sex that my fiance and i have had, I would think that my preg test would be positive. I know you can still get pregnant even if you have not yet ovulated.  What should I do?? Need advice. Thanks

Actually, prenatal means pregnancy, but the rest of your advice is accurate. Many doc's suggest starting prenatals 3 months before TTC to help build up your stores of folate, iron, and so on.

Yes, take the prenatal vitamins now, hence the name "prenatal" meaning before pregnancy.  That's the point of prenatal vitamins, to get your body ready for pregnancy.  Alot of women start taking the vitamins after they find out they're pregnant because alot of women get pregnant without really trying, but since you're deliberately trying, take them now.  This makes sure your body is metabolically ready for the baby making the baby healthier at conception (supposedly but not proven).  Besides, they are just vitamins, they're not going to hurt you.  Basically the only difference between over the counter vitamins and prescribed vitamins is the amount of folic acid.  Prescribed has an abundance of folic acid because it is essential for healthy baby growth, but you can find pills at your local drug store that are the same thing.

I can't speak for everyone, but when my husband and I started trying to conceive, PMS became much worse. Maybe it's mental, or emotional--could be stress-related. I went through a phase (for at least a year) where every month I thought I had finally gotten pregnant. It was easy to believe, because I had food cravings, big sore breasts, mood swings, bloating, gas, fatigue...and every month it got worse and worse. I've gained weight, I've spent a couple hundred bucks on pregnancy tests that all came up negative. Then every month, my hopes have been dashed. It's been 4 years of that, and countless Dr. visits. I still sometimes convince myself that it has finally worked, and everything will fall into place. It's getting very sad, and it's really starting to wear me down. I hope for your sake, your symptoms are signs of pregnancy, and not the same as mine.

My husband and I have been TTC since Aug/Sept and I feel the same way as AnnJ.  My brests are very sore, I also have bloating, gas, etc.  Ever since I stopped my BC in Aug I've been very unregular until Dec and Jan and that was because I took Provera.  I dont know if I am ovulating, I also was on the Depo shot and my last one was Aug 04.  But I know it stays in your system for 12-24 months.  I just think my body thinks its pregnant since my husband and I are TTC.  Creative14, maybe your body is thinking the same thing because if you got pregnant this month it is kind of early for those symptoms to show.  Hopefully you are pregnant, just wait a few more days and test again.  Or go to you OB/GYN and have a blood test done, it is more accurate.  Best of Luck!

A qualitative HCG test is not much better than a sensitive urine HPT.   And today's early detection HPT's very accurate, if the directions are followed and you test with a first morning urine.  No test is 100% perfect so if you get a negative, that's why the directions say to wait several days to a week and test again.

A quantitative HCG is the test where you get the value of HCG, down to <5.  A qualitative HCG simply tells you yes or no.

Typically, (they say), average ovulation happens 2 weeks after your period starts, and if you and your fiance weren't having sex during that entire week, I don't see how you would be pregnant.  But, some women ovulate later or earlier than cycle day 14, so it's possible.  It doesn't matter that the brand was cheap, they are all basically manufactured from the same place and use the same technology.  Go to www.peeonastick.com, they have some recommendations on different brands of hpt and the pros and cons of each.  Typically, it's best to wait until you miss your period, but some people get a bfp earlier, but it's an emotional roller coaster if you don't wait.

Thank you all for the advice.  I am going to consider taking a blood test.  I hope that I am pregnant and its not pms.  If it is only pms, then this is bad case of it, cause I've never pms this bad.  I'll post another comment here once i find out the results of my blood test.  oh, also, one other question that i just now remember.  when i was at my last obgyn last friday, they gave me a perscription for prenatal vitamins.  don't i have to wait until i am pregnant to start taking them??? my dr told to start them now since my fiance and i are trying to get pregnant.. is that right to take them now?? i havent taken them yet. sounds strange, i mean they didnt want to give me blood test, since they think it is too soon to tell and that they didnt want me to have to pay for an expensive test for nothing.

Urine pregancy tests can be in accurate for up to 2 weeks post conception.  The best test is to go to the hospital and get a qualitative beta HCG.  This is a blood test and can show more definitive results.  The other option is to wait and see if you miss your next period, but this doesnt confirm anything.

Make sure that you establish regular visits with your obstetrician for proper prenatal care once it is determined that you are pregnant.

my last period started either jan 5th or 6th.  my cycles are normally 28 days.  i should be expecting my period within a week or so.  i know that pms can have the same symptoms, but with gaining almost 10lbs, that has never happened to me when i am pmsing.

When did your last period start?  How long are your cycles?  If it started around the 1st or 2nd of the month, and you've been doing the dance that much, there is a good chance of being pregnant!

When do you expect your period to start again?  I would test again that day.  You may have tested too early.  I swear by the "confirm" brand, but even the cheap test work fine too.  I would think this weekend, you should be able to tell for certain!

A lot of the symptoms of pregnancy are similar to pms, for me at least.  Being tired and eating a lot are also signs of depression and other medical problems...you doing okay mentally, girl??

Good luck
