IVF Procedures & questions

by SDteacher, Jun 17, 2007 12:00AM
Hello,
I am going through my paperwork and signing away for my first IVF cycle. Under egg fertilization it states 3 items to assist in the process just after the retrieval.

The first is called ICSI where they inject the sperm into the egg directly.

The second is called Assisted Hatching. This is when a hole is made in the zona pellucida (the shell around the embyo) 3 days prior to the transfer. I am not sure what this is and when and why it would be done. Anyone ever hear of this???

Lastly, they list Embryo Co-Culture where they surround the culturing embryos with various types of MY body cells that would naturally happen inside the body.

Has anyone had any of these processes/ procedures done during their IVF?  Positive outcome?? Is one better than another?
If you have had a successful IVF and a healthy baby, please let me know... I need some moral boosting!  Thanks!
