I have taken several pregnancy tests over the last few days even though I am not due until the 10th or so...
Most of the tests I have taken have had one dark line and one EXTREMELY light line. My mother said that all tests have two lines to begin with and if I have to hold it to the light to see it I am not pregnant. Do that all have that line?
If you see a second line then you are probably pregnant even though it's only really feint. However you may be seeing things that aren't there. Are they all the same brand of test or different ones. I know that when I tested with one particular brand that I never got a particularly dark line even though I tested two weeks apart. Another brand gave a much better result.
Wait till you are actually late before you test as you'll generally get a more readable positive as hormone levels are higher.
There's also a chance that if you test too early it may seem that you are pregnant but you go on to have your period a day or two late. This is because you have a very early miscarriage.
It may be that it's just a little early to get a darker line because the level of hcg is still fairly low.

It's obvious when you are pregnant generally. Technically your mum is right when she says that there are two lines always on the test. The first is a control but the second only reacts in the presence of hcg. However you shouldn't have to hold it to the light to see a result.
