Irregular Period

Hi,
I am 25yrs old and I have irregular periods.I am married for 2yrs and was on birth control pills for the first yr of my marriage. It has been a little over an year that I stopped using contraceptive pills, I had irregular periods before the marriage( say my cycle was about 40-45 days) too It has been a little more that 60 days that I had my period now and my gync suggested to take Prometrium 200mg to help jump start the period. My question is how safe is it to take these pills and if its alright to wait with a missing period- how long would it be?
Would really appreciate suggestions on this one as I do not want to take any medication if its not required.

Depends on what's causing your period irregularities. Have you had your hormone levels looked at? Do you diet or exercise excessively? Are you pregnant?
