Is it teething?

I'm so stressed. I feel like a bad mom right now. I think Cadence is teething. She screams and cries and just looks at me like "mommy help me". This has been going on for the past 2 days.
She hardly sleeps during the day, and when she does its for about half an hour. She has never been like this before... She's 5 1/2 months old, and shes been a blessing from day one.
It's unexplainable how I feel about it.. Im so sad for her, I feel disconnected.
What would help her?

I have a 7 month old, Kaydence, and she just started the teething thing, I think.
she wakes up screaming and will not go back to sleep.  I put my finger in her mouth and she arces her back and cries.  She likes the teething ring and hard object but doesn't really chew on my hands at all.  I need answers too.  She has slept for 10-12 hours a night and now she is up every 1-2.  She just had and ear infection so I it is not that because she has only been off the meds for 1 day before all this started.  How long does it take when the strong symptoms start that you will see a tooth.  I read 3-4 days its been a week?  I am tired I don't think I can do this any more, I have been spoiled by her!!!!!!!!!

Jenni.. my guess is teething or ear ache.. any fever?  (old wives tale, but it happened with my other two.. fever during teething too, just not high).  If you stick your fingers in her mouth and feel the bumps (or she screams) then there is your answer.. if not, have her checked out, could be ear infection :( Good Luck!

Oh Jenni!!! You are a terrific Mommy! The fact that you are hurting for her is proof of that.
It does sound like teething and it also sounds like you are doing all the RIGHT things. Sadly, being a mom means that you have to let them go through the changes of growing with little control. As much as we would love to take their pain as our own, we just can't. Teething hurts but it's the only way to get teeth.LOL Lucy was right about the poops being different so don't be shocked if you notice things are looser or change in color and stinkiness when she is cutting them.
Do keep an eye out for any signs of ear infection like tugging on the ear and tilting the head because that will mean a trip to the Pediatrician. The Tylenol and something cool to chew on is the way to go. DOn't know about anyone else but I gave mine frozen waffles to chew on and you can also get froxen pedia pops.
My mom rubbed rum on my gums. LOL She said it worked but I never tried that with my own.
Whatever you do, it will be fine because you are a good Mommy and you follow your instincts.

I most certainly did not refer my daughter to an "it"...

She has been drooling for a few months now... She cant wear anything without needing a bib.. she soaks her shirts and socks. Shes been eating her hands for a few months now, and also has been eating everything she can get her hands on.
She loves to eat, but today shes been nawing on the bottle nipple, and not eating. so shes tired, hungry and teething.
I just gave her some Tylenol. She hasnt cried for about an hour, so Im gathering myself and taking a nice break.

Ya know.. this age is so funny, dispite the teething thing... If I dont keep my eye on her, she would end up in the other side of the living room in a few min. She rolls and wiggles and tries to eat the table and couch legs. Its so cute. ... I wonder if medhelp recognizes photobucket tags... I have to show you gals some cute pics.

sparkler..you KNOW i love ya girl, but i do think miss jenni was referring to the situation as "it" and not the wee one.
teething is a good instinct/guess. she most likely has some teeth cutting through and is indeed quite painful. they will just cry and cry. drool a lot, not be hungry, maybe even have a fever, red cheecks. anything like that going on? we used to keep a frozen washcloth in the freezer (make it long before it goes in). they even sell those "hylands" teething tablets to help.
its normal to feel like a "bad" mom. my girl is almost 5 and there are still times when i feel like a bad mom. we all do but that "bad" mom is the one our baby wants/needs the most! they are sooo forgiving. just relax, be calm and she will feel your calmness. really look into the teething. that's what it sounds like to me.

My first thought was ear infection too. My kids always acted like that when they had one.

sorry, it seems as if I repeated you a little. We must have been typing at the same time. HAHA

But you did remind me of something else. Ear infection? Is the child playing with her ears? pulling at them?

sparkler, I do not believe she was calling her child a IT, I think she was refering to the situation?

Jenni, Do you feel any bumps along her gums? Or do you see any white spots? Does she have a fever, because with teething also comes a fever? If not she could have something else. Maybe gas, or be a little colic? Just to be sure you could take her to her pedi. Try putting her across your lap, belly down and tap your feet so she moving if she stops crying it might be her little belly. Either way, Good luck. I know you feel bad right now.

"It's unexplainable how I feel about it" -- Sparkeler - I think she meant the whole situation; not 'it' being her daughter.. jeeeeez.

Jenni -- I'm sure you're not a bad mom! i can imagine how hard it is to see your baby distressed & you can't comfort her - hopefully it's a stage she'll pass through quickly!

She's just upset, it may make sense she's teething, babies tend to start around 6 months... Is she doing any of the following:

- Drooling
- Gum where tooth is to appear may look sore and red
- Biting almost anything to relieve the pressure under the gums
- One cheek may appear flushed
- Ear pulling
- Cheek rubbing ??

Those are some of the signs of teething which can start even a month before the first tooth comes in!

Try rubbing her gums with your clean finger, giving her a chilled (not frozen) teething ring, sugar free teething gel or something else that you feed her that might be soothing & cooling on her gums.

Good luck!!!

I would say your feeling a little bit disconnected since you are calling your daughter an it.
