Is there treatment for women who can't carry boys?

by apface, Apr 02, 2008 01:19PM
Hi, I'm 29 and I've had 6 miscarriages, 3 before my 2 girls and 3 after. All my miscarriages were around 10 weeks (with heartbeats) and the one's that were tested didn't specify the gender. I have had all kinds of testing done (blood, genetic, sperm) and my dr can't find anything wrong with me or my husband. My ob dr is sending us to a endocrinologist, but I'm woundering if I'm just one of the lucky one's that can't carry males. That's what we've been trying for and if that's the case, is there anything a specailist can do for me? I don't think so, but I can't seem to find alot on the subject. Thanks for your info!

I'm sorry but that's ridiculous to say that you are "one of the lucky one's that can't carry males!?" First of all, the gender of the baby would have NOTHING to do with the pregnancy resulting in a M/C... It's your body's way of saying the pregnancy wasn't healthy(Regardless of the Baby's Sex!?!) I for one have NEVER heard of ANYONE who can't carry a Baby to term simply because it was either a male or a female fetus... That's silly! You should seek a second opinion from another doctor. I'm pretty sure you have been misinformed...  Good Luck...   PS-Why would anyone be lucky to NOT be able to carry a little boy-THAT's CRAZY!?

I think she was being sarcastic as she did say she and her husband are TRYING for a boy.

OP, I do not think gender plays a roll in miscarriage outcomes.  I wish you luck with your next pregnancy.

i think i agree with you.  my first son barely made it past 20 weeks but it worked out okay due to 15 weeks of bed rest and basically sleeping all day, everyday and he was born premature.  i have 2 girls between, no problems.  the perfect pregnancies.  Now im pregnant with a boy and having  many numerous problems, again.  Come to find out my aunt miscarried 3 boy 20+ weeks into her pregnancies and had 5 healthy girls.  Then I found out that my grandma had my dad (her only son) and then 6 girls.  many miscarriages in between of the ones she knew the sex of they were all boys.  I think thats a little fishy...hmmmm...  i really do believe that some women have a hard time carrying a certain sex.  They might not know about it "medically" yet but I know it's true.

I have 2 boys and I have had 2 mc's at 11 weeks and I know for a fact one was a girl.  I think I can nt carry girls.  There is testing to see if it is that you can not carry a boy.  Yo have to go to a genetics specialist (ask your ob about it).  My friend had 3/4 Mc's and all were boys the last pregnancy, she held a full term baby girl.  My Dr. today just told me it is very common to lose a boy eaier.  The boy is the XY and the girl XX, when smething goes wrong with the X it feeds from the other X to compliment it.  With a boy when something goes wrong, there is nothing to compliment it.  With so many MC's didn't your Dr. do more tesing?

To: Everyone on this thread
I just asked an expert in maternal-fetal medicine. (Yes, I'm at work right now at a perinatologist office)

HIGHLY unlikely. In fact, he looked at me and laughed.

And just because I rolled a dice and got a seven four times in a row does not mean anything. It's luck of the draw. Use your brains people!!!! I am begging you!

Old wive's tales are awesome too! Lets believe all of them.

In my family we have NO boys.  My mother had 4 daughters and 1 miscarriage (that she was sure was her boy).  My sister has 2 daughters and 1 miscarriage.  I had 2 miscarriages and 1 daughter.  I also have approximately 40 cousins only 3 of which are boys.  I am pregnant again and I'm sure if I don't miscarry it must be a girl.  It sure seems that the women in my family have a problem carrying boys to term.  I have heard this before as well, that because a fetus is "foreign" to your body and especially a male inside a female body that we fight it off almost as if it's a parasite.

okay guys...it has NOTHING to do with the woman....the MAN is who determines the sex.  Also...it is ridiculous to think that because you miscarried but also had healthy girls then you must not be able to carry boys.  I have had 3 miscarriages...1 boy, 2 girls and I have a healthy one year old girl.

???

Well! At least I found other "crazy" women like myself who do believe that they cannot carry boys! After two healthy girls, I lost three boys...2 at 16 weeks and 1 at 13 weeks, all within a year and  half, and all considered genetically normal. We have been to specialists with no insights...I am at a loss and scared to try again.

It IS true, that some women can't carry a specific gender. The poster maternalfetalmedicine needs to find a different Dr to work for. Yes it is very uncommon, but it can happen.

Hi,
I am new to this site.I misscarried on Sept 25,2009. It was a boy. I have a 6 year old girl.. I do believe deep down that I cannot carry boys... And my nightmare came true...

I had a miscarriage Wednesday and before fining out the sex of the baby and before even doing research on my crazy idea of the fact that maybe I just can't carry a male baby I asked my doctor and he said it is possible.  He is one of the top doctors in Houston.  I have three healthy girls and have had two miscarriages in the past two years. This one was a boy. (Not sure about the one before.)  Now I might have to have a stitch in my cervix, but that will all be determined when I go in for my test results.  I want so bad to have one more baby boy or girl.  My husband is really wanting a boy.  I don't know how anyone lost their baby, did it just die?  My water actually broke and I went into labor.  Did anyone else experience this?  I do know the baby was extra active.  I was 15.5 weeks along.

Hi,
I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I went through a miscarriage on Sept 25,2009. I had a similar (I think).. and I had the same question as yours too.. I was in pain as I have an ovarian cyst. It became bad starting 23rd Sept,2009. I was spotting..The pain got worse. I did not realize I went in labor. On friday I went to see the doctor.. I started bleeding heavily. The doctor did an ultrasound. My boy was active... but when she checked my cervix I was 1 cm dialated. She told me it was matter of time and there is nothing she could do. I walked out the office and My water broke. I went back in to her office  and I delivered  while I was waiting for them to have a room for me to check the baby again. I was devastated.. I think my baby was alive...
I am going over and over again in my mind...as what went wrong. I have a daughter who is 6 years old...

Well, I believe that I cannot carry girls!  Both my sister and I have all boys, she has 2 and I have 4.  I strongly believe that if I had 5 more they would all be boys.  But I am not going to test that theory!

by redBlues, Nov 10, 2009 08:22AM
I hope some researches would do some work on it..that's an interesting theory...

all they need is lots of women who delivered only "girls" or "boys"  to perform some tests...
