Itchiness after period on one side of the vagina

Hi everyone,
I've been having a horrible itchiness on one side of my vagina every time my period ends. I have been to my gynecologist 3 times since January due to this symptom. The first time I went, she told me I had a bacterial vaginosis and gave me antibiotics for 7 days. The itchiness came back after my period and I again went and she gave me more antibiotics. They work, but once my period comes back and goes, the itchiness appears AGAIN. I don't know what to do. I feel I'm losing my time going to doctors and it's really irritating. Have any of you suffer something similar? Should I go to a dermatologist?

Hormones changes and ph balance changes. Ask your doctor for cream or meds for it.

Hi there,
Your period will change the vaginal pH and cause itching. It happens to me every month just the day before my period. Our hormones (estrogen, in particular) can cause you to be more susceptible to yeast infections as well.
One thing that I have found that helps is actually taking a probiotic. There are plenty on the market over the counter. Just get a reputable one. You probably need to take one every day to start, but then you could taper down to once every two days or every three once you get the good flora established.

Hi there.  Gosh, how frustrating!!  Clearly your period impacts this.  Did they swab the area?  Do you have a discharge?  Some women will get a yeast infection following a period.  Why, I'm not sure.  Perhaps it has to do with creating an anaerobic atmosphere (no air/lack of air) in that area which leads to overgrowth of yeast or growth of bacteria.  (but BV does not itch so surprised they diagnosed you with BV).  Another possibility is if you use tampons, could you be allergic to them and having a reaction?  Is it always on one side?

I'd go back to the doctor--  but would consider trying a new one for a second opinion.  The BV diagnosis seems off with the issue of itching (BV has a strong odor and thin watery discharge--  yeast and fungal issues itch).
good luck hon and please come back and let me know what the second doctor says.  (not sure if a derm would be helpful unless it is determined this is a contact dermatitis issue which 'can' happen ).  good luck
