Your period pattern may settle and may not be as painful as your fist period.

Keep a written diary of your periods and write down your moods.
As you get your periods every month, keeping a diary will allow you to work out when your next period is due.

Some people experience emotional and physical symptoms around 10 days before a period is due and keeping a diary will help you to find out if any emotional swings are due to your hormones.  The type of symptoms you can sometimes get are different mood swings, tender breasts and nipples and bloating.  Eating a healthy and well balanced diet with lots of fluids (especially water) and avoiding junk foods, processed foods and cakes, biscuits, sweets, chocolates, fizzy drinks, will help to lessen those mood swings and curb any cravings for some foods that you may experience.

For the painful cramping, you can take over the counter pain relief medication that is suitable for your age group and use the medication as directed on the packet.  Putting a hot water bottle or heat on your lower back or your tummy (where it hurts) will also help to lessen the pain of the period pains.

If you symptoms are mild to moderate you will be fine to carry on doing normal things, but some people can get very severe pains and have to lie down and rest.

The best think you can do for cramps is keep moving. Walk, swim, bike,...

Welcome to the club.  I'm sorry it hurts so much!  Try some Tylenol, Advil, or Midol (or something similar) to help with the cramps or lay there in a ball because the pressure does help.
