Just had an methotrexate shot.. what should I expect?

I found out I was pregnant on the 26th of January. I had some bleeding and some cramping early on but was told it was normal. My doctor continued to have my hcg levels checked. At first they were low and eventually began to double but then plateaued. On Tuesday, my hcg levels were 2100 and they did a vaginal ultrasound. There was nothing in my utereus at all. They told me it was a ectopic pregnancy seeing as today my levels only went up to 2300. We discussed the options and I chose the shot over surgery. My husband is deployed so I have longer time to heal. What should I be expecting as far as pain and side effects? I know what the doctor told me but I still would like to know from women who have gone through it. Thanks so much!

You'll be fine- the physical pain is tolerable. It's your heart that hurts the most.

Lot's of women on the fertility forum have had methotrexate, and you'll probably get more replies about this over there.

Yes, I have a blood test on Saturday and another on Tuesday. I just hope that there is little pain. I am a pansy when it comes to that. Thanks for thekind words. I need to feel like others are going through this with me.

Gas pain!! As silly as it sounds, it's painful!! Have you ever had a procedure where they fill the abdominal cavity with gas?? If so, it's similar to that lovely feeling. Discontinue taking your prenatals, because folic acid works against methotrexate. I had very little bleeding, but I had a D&C right before my shot. They say you shouldn't drink after methotrexate treatment, but I sure did. Probably not the best coping method, but it worked for me.

You can also expect a general feeling of "blah."

I'm so sorry for your loss. Will your doctor be monitoring your hcg levels to make sure they're decreasing?
