Late period and Just stopped birth control?

by BJS10, Sep 28, 2007 01:56PM
At the end of last month (Aug) I finished my last cycle on birth control. This month (sep) I have felt normal. I was supposed to start my period on wed. it is now fri. and I have not started my period. Could this be because I took birth control for so long? (9 yrs) Is about how long I was on BC (ortho tri cyclen lo). My husband and I have been having unprotected sex all during the past month. I took a pregnancy test the day I was expecting my period and it read negative. Could I still be pregnant and it is just too early to tell? If so when should I retest?

Thanks!

I would say more than likely you are late because you stopped birth control.  That was one of my questions.  My husband and I are ready to TTC and I was wondering if when I stopped bc if my period would stay regular or what.  I was told it varies.  Just because you are regular on the pill doesn't mean you'll be regular off of it.  Doctors usually recommend that you be off 3 months from the pill (because it can still be in your system), but at the same time, women have gotten pregnant right away.  So, everyone is different.  Since your test was negative, I'd wait a week and re-test.
