Sure; an insertable vibrator is pretty much the same thing as a dilator. Dilators are often prescribed for womenWomen's way with vaginismusVaginismus, to help them get used to feeling something inside and to help them learn to relax their pc muscles. Btw, it's not so much that the vagina is shallow, but that the muscles are so tight that it *feels* like it's shallow (or even non-existent).
You might check out the book "Private Pain", by Katz and Tabisel. They also have a website, www.womentc.com, where you can learn more about vaginismus and your treatment options. I believe treatment is usually more than just dilator use, btw. I think sex therapy is a very important element of treatment, maybe even the most important element, so if you're incorporating vibrator/dilator use with therapy, that's awesome. If you're trying to treat this yourself, it may not be as effective. That's because vaginismus is a physical reaction to anxiety, and sex therapy would help you figure out what's making you anxious about penetration, and help you work through those anxieties. While I'm sure it can be done on your own, I think it's almost always easier to uncover things with someone else's help :-)
