Liver Concerns

I have an uncomfortable bloating feeling in my upper right abdomen (under rib cage) and a nagging ache/pain in my middle right back that sometimes has a numbness or tingling feeling. Mainly on my right side, but sometimes on both sides. I have had various test to reveal nothing. CT-scan, colonoscopy, ultrasound. I do drink wine every evening. I have told my doctor my concerns. My blood tests have come back normal. They said my liver enzymes are perfect. Does anyone know if it is possible that a damaged liver would not show up in routine blood work? The doctor told me that if my liver was so damaged that it hurt, that it would show up in blood work. Does anyone know of a test that I should get?

Thanks for your response.  Yes, I always have the pain.......it is a consistent nagging pain. I also had a hidascan and that was normal. Maybe I will make an appointment for a second opinion. I hate worrying like this!

If the liver is damaged, it's not going to work well and it will show up in the blood work. Another thought is the gall bladder. It can flare up and hurt. If it's bad enough you'll even have loose stools and vomiting. You may not even have gall stones; it can just be inflamed. Mine does that and it's a great limiter on my fat intake. If I eat too much fat, my gall bladder starts to hurt.

I assume between the CT scan and ultrasound they checked your gall bladder. Were you hurting when you had the tests done? That might make a difference. If it continues, perhaps you should get a second opinion.
