Major vaginal tearing during intercourse

Well this is truly embarrassing but I had sex with my boyfriend for the first time (not as in I was a virgin- rather our first time together) and I had a major vaginal tear (3cm long and 3 cm deep) bled heavily for 45 mins & ended up in surgery! I would really appreciate any advice on why it happen, if its likely to happen again- he is terrified to touch me know, and if my vagina will look like it did before. I've had two children by c-section so the idea of such serious tearing & stitches due to intercourse seems crazy! Thanks.

If you'd had two children vaginally this would be extremely unusual (and it is certainly unusual enough), but it's hard to see why having had children by c-section would make any difference.  (If a vagina had stretched to accommodate a child's head without tearing it should be able to handle a man's penis, but yours never had to go to that extreme.)

I assume, though, that all the times you have had sex before, you've never had such a problem.  This would suggest either something has changed about your vagina, or something is different about your boyfriend's penis or possibly his technique.  If you were to measure, would his penis come out as unusually big around?  Was he doing something really active or rough?  Were you lubricated?  Has the amount of natural lubrication you feel during sex changed over time?  Has your doctor ever talked to you about vaginal tissues thinning over the years or anything like that?  (You don't mention your age, but this can happen towards perimenopause.)

Talk to your doc and see if he or she can suggest anything.  I'd go slow and use lots of lube.

Thanks for your reply and advice!  I hadn't seen it until now!  You are right, I have never had a problem like this before and I really hope I don't have one again!  I don't think lubrication was an issue however he is pretty well endowed.  I have been to see the doctor who discussed vaginal tissue thinning possible due to my contraceptive however after an exam he did not seem to think this was the issue.  I am only 34 so it seems unlikely.  I am still in the six week healing period- I can't bear to think of it happening again.  I haven't heard of this happening to anyone else.
