Mirena IUD / FALSE POSTIVE HPT?/ Anyone that will answer "Yes" or "No"

To: Anyone that will answer "Yes" or "No"
I have read every post and have yet to see a "yes" or "no" answer to the following question:

Has anyone with a Mirena IUD taken a pregnancy test and gotten a FALSE POSITIVE?

Confession/Background:
I am a 39 year old divorced father of two that was involved in a relationship with a woman for the past 2 years. We mutually agreed to end our relationship a month ago - she had a Mirena implanted 6 months ago.  I just got off the phone and was advised that she had a positive indication on a HPT.  She mentioned that it could be "ectopic."

Will an ECTOPIC pregnancy give a FALSE POSITIVE on an HPT?

Hello
i have Mirena, and i got some stomach ache and fatigue. i first made a home test and it was POSITIVE, so i made a blood test, but it was NEGATIVE. i believe it's because of the hormones the mirena gives to the body.

so it's YES.

Good luck for everyone :)

No.  An ectopic pregnancy will give a true positive on an HPT.  A Mirena will not cause a false positive either.  False positives are pretty rare with HPTs, they can sometimes be caused by certain fertility drugs but that is pretty much the only time a positive on an HPT is false.  (She would have to be taking drugs specifically designed to cause her to ovulate, etc., and she wouldn't be doing that when on the Mirena.)

If she is telling you the pregnancy might be ectopic, what she is telling you is that it might not go forward to term.  (An ectopic pregnancy needs to be removed for reasons of the health of the mother and because it cannot succeed.)
