Missed period after Birth Control

How many of you ladies have had problems with your period after stopping birth control?
I was on alesse-21/aviane-21 for nearly a year and stopped it because of breakthrough bleeding, then had two slightly irregular periods, and now have had no period for 11 weeks. I'm wondering if this is common and what types of birth control cause it, and how long it takes to get your period back!?

I'm not going to be able to sleep for a while so I thought I would share a bit of info about mircette from drugs.com, This is important to me because I've been having slightly more discharge than normal even though no period. It seems to me that if the medicine effects the mucous lining that might be cause for the increase in discharge...from drugs.com "Mircette contains a combination of female hormones that prevent ovulation (the release of an egg from an ovary). Mircette also causes changes in your cervical mucus and uterine lining, making it harder for sperm to reach the uterus and harder for a fertilized egg to attach to the uterus."
sorry if I'm spamming a bit... I'm gonna go to be now, it's 2 hrs past my normal bedtime anyways....

By the way, I've been taking mircette but I'm probably going to start something else because it is very expensive.

The whole cramping like being on your period thing. Yeah, me too. I didn't go off the meds on purpose, I ran out and couldn't get more(was getting it from college infirmary but stopped taking classes and haven't been able to afford meds for a while) and I am sexually active(though not very-about once a month-) so i have been kinna worrying. Though reading how so many women have this problem really relaxed me a lot. Now that I know this is a factor, I can't say I'm going to stop taking birth control. It has too many beneficial effects, before I started taking it my periods and my PMS was horrible. Anyway just wanted to add my two cents for anyone with problems like this that happens to find this article. Thanks.

Gah I hear you on the frustrating :) I will call my doctor today I think (I feel bad for them--they're probably tired of hearing from me!) Thanks for the update and I'll let you guys know what happens on this end. One thing though--I've had cramping nearly every day that feels just like my period is coming on. And then it doesn't. Has this happened to you? Anybody else?

Hello sorry it took me so long to get back to you guys on here.  I went to the doctor and see has done some blood tests to make sure its not my thyroid, iron level and stuff like that.  I will also be taking a ultrasound on Friday so they can see if I am getting the lining or not.  If I am getting the lining that needs to shed and it is building up them she will give me something to force it to release.  If I am not then I most likely have something wrong with my chemistry in my body I think.  I would go to the doctors so they can see why you are not getting it. It will also be a week before I get the tests back.  It is very frustrating though.  I have also heard that it could take up to a year for your body to adjust to not being on the pill.   I will keep you updated and keep us updated if you hear anything.

I just found out for sure I am not pregnant, and I too will be soon going to the doctors to jump start my period. I am definitely not ever going on hormone birth control again because of the weird things it does to your body!
Pitlady--what did your doctor say? are they sending you home with meds to start your period?

i was on Ortho tri cylclen/Ortho tri cyclen Lo and YAZ off and on for 7 years and just went off all BC in January and still have not had a period.  I went to the doctor but all she could say was that my ovaries are lying dormant from not being used for 7 years and now ill more than likely need to take a progesterone pill to jump start my cycle.  Im just like you i wish they would have informed me of some of these issues before i went on the pill because i might not have done it!

I was on a other brand of bc that is also the same as yours and I had my period for the first month after I got off and now it has been 4 months and nothing.  I am not pregnant either (took tests).  I think doctors should inform us more about this type of stuff before we go on it. I am going to the doctors to discuss this today since I wanted to start to have children and that is impossible without ovulating.

I was also on one of the Aviane birth control pills and stopped taking it October 2015 to try to have a kids. I had a very irregular and not really much of a period the following 3 months and then absolutely nothing for a little over 8 months and finally for the last 12 days my body has been trying to get back to normal!
