My left labia is swollen and not going down

by aprilmedhelp, Mar 31, 2006 12:00AM
I had sex at about 6:30 am EST this morning and my labia is really swollen and hard. It is now 2:00 pm EST and it hasn't and isn't showing signs of going down. Is this serious? what should I do? I tried running cold water on it, but that was the only idea I had. I hurts just a bit when I walk or sit down.

Sorry to hear about your problem... several years ago I had a terrible time with Bartholion's cyst.. don't trust my spelling. You have ducts that run through your labia to "lubricate" during sex. Sometimes they become blocked and can swell up. If it hurts pretty bad you need to go see the ob/gyn. They will lance it and put a tube in it to drain. Don't worry they numb it first and it's a really common thing. I guess it's just not something us women bring up in casual conversation, but after I had my problem I found out my mother-in-law has had them also. I had them off and on for about an year and they just stopped. My doctor told me not to use any scented soap or things of that nature down there, only dove soap. But really call your doctor and get it taken care of.. it's only going to hurt worse. Hope you feel better. That's a sensitive area to hurt.. also baths will help the pain. Best of luck!

I had the evil little Bartholins and it did happen after sex too.  I am in a 11 yr relationship so it's not something you get from dirty sex like some may say. Don't let it go too long.  I ignored it thinking it was something that may drain on it's own (sometimes they do) so when I finally went to the DR he put me on anti-biotics to see if that would help. Well 8 days later no such luck.  It hurt soooooo bad by then....and of course I was so busy...we had jus had a hurricane here so we were cleaning up and I had also gone out of town and doen a lot of walking...so non eof that helped.  I finally got in to the Dr's and he opened it up...don't be surprised even though he numbed it....it still hurt alot when he cut it.  He then put in a drain that was supposed to stay in for up to 6 weeks....it lasted 1 week and it was gone so he just left it be.  That was in November and so far not another one has come up...I guess they are easy to occur once you have had one.  Good luck with it...take advil or something it helps a lot with the pain.

It wasn't the Bartholins cyst. The bartholins cyst has to do with a gland that swells. My entire inner lip swolled, but after 2 days it went down. Thanks for your help both of you. You pointed me in the right direction to look for information.

really hoping that you still check this forum!!!! ive been researching about bartholin's gland because my labia minora swell mainly after sexual activity and from what i have gathered this can happen when your bartholin's gland is just blocked.. not necessarily has a cyst????? can you help me confirm this please
and if this is true will the bath clear my gland and i will be free from this annoying problem????
