Natural Remedies for BV

I have a stubborn case of bacterial vaginosis. I was given a prescription for flagyl. I do not have insurance right now and cannot afford to get any prescriptions. I read on several websites that you can insert into your vagina, acidopholus capsules, boric acid capsules or garlic. I am unsure about this and am wondering if anyone has tried this or heard about it. This may sound like a dumb question but I'm wondering what happens when you insert the capsules. Do they come out on their own when you urinate? My BF told me not to do it but I'm desperate to get rid of this annoying infection. Help!!!

I would just like to let you know that if BV is left untouch is does cause PID and PID causes infertility. I"m not sure who told you it doesn't but sadly they have misinformed you. My doctor himself told me that it does cause infertility. Most doctors tell you it's minor but my doctor was honest with me. I'm currently trying the hydrogen peroxide technique hoping that it will work. But, I just wanted to let you know because it's very important.

I was a sufferer of BV for the last 8 years.I have taken all different prescriptions and 5 to 7 days later BV came back.I started on some supplements on Jan 4,2012 and I have been BV free since.I would like to share what helped me and maybe this information will be useful to a BV sufferer.I went to walgreen's and I bought a bottle of probiotcs.....Finest Natural Probiotic 10 Billion CFU....60 softgels $16.49.Some times they have a buy 1 get 1 sale and that is very beneficial.I take a softgel everyday and it is going on 3 months and I havent had a BV infection since. When you take it you have to be consistent to get results.I am glad that I tried it because my life has changed for the better,so i hope this can help other women that are suffering from this condition because it is very embarrassing....

Natural remedies are always best as your system is inclined to not reject them. I followed the common advice I saw on 10 different forums on this of hydrogen peroxide application and acidophilus (found in probiotic yogurts or pills). This is day 2 and am amazed the smell is totally gone. Still a bit of discharge but I read that's normal and will go away.

Recipe to fight and possibly terminate BV:

-Eat 2 capsules of acidophilus (make sure it has alot of strains and Esp. "L.  Casei"
- take about 1/3 cup of boiled water and cool it off (just put it in fridge for 15 mins) and add 1/3 cup hydrogen peroxide. Now what I did because I didn't have an applicator was I soaked a tampon in the solution and inserted that in my vagina. What this will dooms create an acidic environment for the good bacteria (the ones in your probiotic capsules meaning the acidophilus ) to grow the bad bacteria which is causing the smells don't survive in acidic environment they need alkaline environments.
- I also took one of the acidophilus capsules and opened it and after removing the tampon inserted the capsule just a little and contorted my body so the powder would go into my vaginal cavity. This will cause good bacteria growth in there. Remember these capsules have live bacteria so they multiply and don't be scared those bacteria already exist in you even in your digestive tract but it's just a matter if having enough of them. Some people just put plain yogurt up there but make sure it's probiotic yogurt. Not all yogurt has live cultures. But I think it's enough to eat the capsules and to apply a bit of the powder slight in the vaginal cavity

So I have only did all the above once and noticed a significant difference. I don't know how I got BV. I'm not sexually active and extremely clean. I even wash with water after I go to the washroom. Im very particular about smells and never had any smells down there so I instantly noticed the change and started researching. Ladies the above remedy worked for me and a lot of women so try it before harsh pharmaceuticals. BV is not very risky and can really happen to anyone do don't worry you are not alone.

I know this is an old thread, but I have been suffering from bv for 5 years.. The smell is disgusting I never wanted to have sex with my boyfriend, and he didn't understand why, I felt so ashamed and embarrassed, I didn't feel like a real woman because no matter how pretty I looked on the outside, I still knew I was damaged and nothing worked to get rid of it. I've seen numerous gynos that prescribe metro gel and other antibiotics that would rid the smell for about 2 weeks, then the disgusting smell would be back. I heard something about pro biotics, so I ordered some regular cheap capsules and I was hoping to God it would work, but I was let down. A year later, I was wondering If I used the wrong ones, and turns out I did. I ordered fem dophilus probiotics that are made special for vaginal health, and I have been taking them for about 3 days now ( I insert one pill vaginally and take one with water every day) and I swear after day 1 of doing this the smell completely disappeared. I am so happy and relieved I feel like crying.. Five years with this disgusting infection, and a few days of taking this vitamin and no smell at all, its amazing. I encourage everybody suffering from bv to try this, its life changing.

Hello ladies! a natural remedy is using 50 % hydrogen peroxide 3% with 50 % water. there are two ways to do it. first way is to mixed the two together and use a large syringe, without the needle of course and insert the syringe into the vagina and insert the half and half solution several times. the other method is to soak a tampon with half peroxide half water and leave inside the vagina for 30 minutes. at initial signs of bv this can be done for three nights. if you already have bv, use either method for seven nights. trust me, this works wonders!!!!!!!!

sometimes both you and your boyfriend have  to be treated with flagyl  ,because if you take it and he doesn't ,he'll just give you back the bacteria  infection. It's a thick discharge with  a fishy smell

I have just read this note, and I would like to add that BV does not cause or lead to PID or infertility, Its is not sexually transmitted. Do not continue to use anti biotics if they do not work first time, you will become allergic and they will damage ur immune system. BUY BIOFEM GEL, its brilliant I swear by it after suffering with recurrent BV for years, I did my own research and this is the one, I am currently looking into all natural remedy, I know there must be one, I think the live yoghurt helps. SEROUSLY GET BIOFEM, DOES WONDERS INSTANT RELIEF,

The newest evidence shows a link between BV and PID.  So yes, it is something to take seriously.

Also proven effective in various studies is a clove of garlic, wrapped in cheesecloth, inserted into the vagina. Change every evening.  No it should not "come out" when you pee, it stays in just like a tampon.

The best cure is, of course, prevention.  Never ****** or use soaps, it washes away your natural protective bacteria/acidic environment. BV likes an alkaline environment. p.s. semen is one of the most alkaline of body fluids, so this can sometimes exacerbate or encourage BV infection.

I have had chronic BV for YEARS. I have taken ALL of the prescriptions and after 5 days the BV is back. The prescriptions DO NOT WORK... It is a chemical imbalance in my vagina and I can't fix it. I have tried MANY homeopathic methods to fix this and spent THOUSANDS of dollars on Dr. visits and meds. The ONE thing that has seemed to help is the medicated douches. they are cheap and the relief lasts for the entire month, not just a couple days. Using the meds too frequently (metro/flagyl) causes your body to develop an immunity to the meds, thus creating a resistant strain of bacteria. Sadly I have dealt with this for years, and there is no cure for me. Embarrasing, but I have a smelly vagina, and there is nothing I can do about it.

I've had BV 4 times in the last 8 months, (since having a copper coil fitted).  Haven't tried herbal remedies but am sure that antibiotics are the only cure. My doctor claims that I may be a little too clean down there and that I should only wash the area with warm water, ie soap free. Am trying this and it seems to be working so far.  Just thought I'd share that with you. Also, I asked if BV could lead to PID and was assured that it wouldn't but your postings say otherwise.  Are you sure about the PID?  Bit worried now ;-/

did you ask you doctor if he has any samples from reps who come by his office and hand out various samples?  maybe he could supply you with some and you wouldn't have to purchase as much.  do you have a free clinic nearby - i don't know if there is any assistance they can provide but it's worth checking it out.

I found this link to a midwife's site that claims that a hydrogen peroxide solution can be used. I don't know if it works or not, but here's the link:

There are no home remedies for BV.  You need to find a way to pay for the prescription.

If BV is left untreated, it could turn into PID and have serious consequences.

I would suggest not trying anything natural.  You have to take antibiotics to get rid of BV there is no cure.  And while it is not an STD if left untreated it can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease which can then cause infertility.  Go to your local health department or planned parenthood and maybe they can give you the medicine.  I know the flagyl pills are expensive but this your future fertility your gambling with.  They also have metrogel which is inserted vaginally....don't know if that is cheaper or not.  And Boric Acid capsules are for yeast infections.
