Since you are not trying to get pregnant right now, I would try not to worry about it. I would assume that you can and use protection accordingly. They generally charge on a sliding fee scale based on you income. I don't think a doctor would even consider doing any fertility tests unless you had been activiely trying to get pregnant and were unsuccessful.
