No period in 4 months, not preg

by saphirechild, Sep 07, 2006 12:00AM
Well, I haven't had a period since April 25 of this year. All of my pregnancy tests come out negative, even the one blood test I took with my primary physician. I went to a specialist and she prescribed me some medicine that will bring down my period but told me not to take them until I get another blood test with the results just to make sure I'm not pregnant. I haven't gone to get the bloodtest yet and It's been about 2 weeks since i've seen the doctor, I'm scared of what might be going on with me. I'm healthy and other than now, have never been late with my period. Has this happened to anyone b4? Have any advice, or think you might know what may be going on here?

How old are you may i ask??
im 20 and My period is also irregular has stopped for years at a time. I went to the doctors twice and he said there was nothing to be worried about. There are possible reasons for this, maybe a cyst or something. Fortunately you have a doc thats willing to find out a cause, my doc just looks at me as if im crazy for coming to the doctors and stares at me untill i walk out.
just sit back and relax unless they find something

I am in a similar situation.  I have checked out so many websites and none of them pertain to my situation.  Please share whatever you find out.  The only thing that has helped me to menstruate has been taking Vitex.  Within 48 hours of taking Vitex I can feel mild cramps.

by saphirechild, Sep 07, 2006 12:00AM
I just turned 22 this week. The medicine that my doc prescribed for me is call Provena. Also, if your doc won't help you investigate what is going on with your body, don't be afraid to seek a second and third opinion if need be. At the end of the day it is your body. I never just "go with" whatever the doc says if I know I feel a certain way. For example, my mother went in eraly this year for a mamogram (mammogram) and they told her they found some lumps but that they looked benign. She didn't take their word for it, and went abd had a second opinion only to find out she had breast cancer and needed a double mastectomy!! I'm not saying this to scare you, just to tell you to be more attentive to your personal health.

I will keep you all posted if any new developments arrise or if I find out anything else, i know how frustrating and perplexing this thing is!!

Hi! I am 21 years old and this is the 6th month I have gone with out a period. It really sucks and makes you feel like you are not a woman! (that is how it feels to me!) and I assure you you are! I have been to the doctor the last time this happened (almost a year) and he gave me some pills to encourage my period to start. It took ten days exactly for it to come and it was very very very Heavy! From my advice you REALLY need to make sure that your blood pregnancy test is negitive... The pills that your doctor gave you could kill or harm the baby if take them during pregnancy. After I took my ten pills I started right when I was supposed to. It obviously makes you VERY fertile afterwards, because I got pregnant a couple days after my period ended. We are going to try not to get pregnant when we go to the doctor this time for my ten day pill supply, because my son was born with a birth defect called gastroschisis (his bowels were on the outside). I think that the pill might have caused it! I am not for sure so dont think that if you get pregnant after this pill, that your child is going to have a birth defect, because I am NOT a doctor and it is just my personal guess! Anymore questions let me know!

Thanks so much Laur. I went on 9/7/06 to have my blood drawn and I guess they should have those results for me in a few days. I just want to start having a epriod, I feel really yucky!!! Like my face is all broken out and oily and I've alrady gained like 7 vanity pounds. When I went to the doc they said that's normal because of all the estrigen in my system. I just really hope that I can take those pills and start my period soon. Did the doctors ever tell you why they thought you had stopped your period, or was it just one of those things that they didn't have an answer for? And was the period extreemly painfull as well once you took the ten pills?

by LaurBeth, Sep 10, 2006 12:00AM
No it was not a painful period. It was just really really heavy and I didnt think it was ever going to stop!! I have never really had painful periods though. No, the doctor could not tell me what was going on with me? I guess that is one thing that researchers need to go over? It has really left me at a loss. I dont know what to tell my girlfriends or my husband. I just have to say I dont have a period sometimes???? I started my period when I was almost 17 years old! That isnt exactly normal.. I have always kinda felt left out. But what is funny is when it is here I want it to go away! I have done some research on something called AMENNOREAH (I think that is how you spell it?) you should do some website jumping and read more about it! It might help you out a little. I know it did me!

Guess what! If you havent read, I started my period today after it had been absent for six months!! Just be very patient! It will come!! Just in the meanwhile keep in touch with your obgyn!! Good luck and stay in touch!

Thanks Laur!! And that's great about your period!!! I plan to have my period this week one way or another!!! Once i get blood results back, which i'm almost possitive will be negative for pregnancy, I'm filling my prescription and taking those pills to bring down my period. I can't take it anymore ;p Thanks for the advice though. I will def look up that Amenoreah thing. Thanks ;)

Hey, well i was in the same situation until last month which was the 1st time i had my period from April, i was perscribed Provera, to bring it on and it did, but i'm trying to have a baby, My gyno has perscribed me clomiphine to stimulate the ovaries, all i know is after taking the provera i had really bad peroid pain and it came back with a vengence, I have a really good gyno and if u are trying to concieve, i've been through a lot of pelvic ultrasounds (internal) cause it's the best way to see what's going on and i have had an x-ray that shows whether my falliopian tubes are blocked or not, but they wern't so i'm now at day 15 of my cycle and hopefully from taking the clomiphine i have ovulated and maybe i will be pregnant but i'm not keeping my hopes up as i have to have a blood test to see if i did ovulate and whether the dosage of clomiphene need to be made higher, But i will keep you informed

Hi, 2 years ago I went off the birth control pill because I became aware of how harmful it is to your health. After a year of no period, I went to a homeopath who gave me these little hormone pills. After a couple of months I got my period and stopped taking the pills. I got my period 2 more times - lighter and lighter with each month - and now nothing again. I'm doing a candida cleanse at the moment, as I've heard this helps sort out imbalances... fingers tightly crossed!
Tamsyn.

I have also been the typw who is irregualr, but I have never gone this long. i have taken a few pregnancy test as well, and yes they are negative. I called for an appointment with the gyno, but it's always scary because what if something is wrong with me? I was told that stress can be a problem, and yes I have a lot of stress actually...BUT for it to last this long, it worries me. Everyday its on my mind, I mean, how can we not think about something like that?...Ya know? I mean, can a lot of sex stop a period? I am in a relationship, and yes we do have  sex, a lot..but could that prevent a period from coming? If anyone can help, please....let me know something. OH, and Im also getting cramps too every now and then like it wants to come, but nothing. I think last month their was like 2 drops of blood in the toilet, so I used a tampon and 2 hours later, their was nothing on it:( Its so stressful and I wish somone could relate....

I am in the same situo, I am 24 and went off the pill last november, I had my last period in Jaunary and nothing since. My doc said it may take a while to become regular....but this is plain annoying....my skin has turned to ****....like pimples for miles....i am not underweight....my bmi is 20, which healthy....I was never regular before I went on the pill, but not 4 months. I am intrested to hear more about the homopath remedies mentioned by Tasymn. The thing i am most worried about is not being able to have kids in a few years time, it really concerns me. I have in the last few days started taking a pill called Maca, it is a natural pill that helps to balance hormones! I am willing to try anything really, not having a period on a regular basis is messing with my skin and moods....I am tempted to go back onto the pill just maintain my monthy periods, yes i know i could be in the same situo in a few years time, but for crying out loud its on my mind 24/7 and driving me crazy!

To: everyone i hear ya loud and clear!!
I just turned 23 and have stopped taking the pill in late January and have still not seen any sign of a period!  I went to the ob a month ago and she said its either because of low body weight ( which i am rather small i weigh 96 lbs, and am 5 7' but ive always been tiny my whole family is just naturally thin) but i think its when she said that my body is just lying dormant that i freaked out!  DORMANT who wants to hear that, especially when your trying to get pregnant.  She wants me to take all these tests to rule out other conditions, however she wants me to start taking hormone pills to start a menstrual cycle which im not keen on at all, so i dont know what to do. Im just like all of you, terribly stressed and just wanting to be NORMAL!! whatever that is.

I'm also 36 and have not had a period for close to 4 months.  Hormone tests say that i'm perimenopausal.  I'm freaking out too but you should look into it. I'm hoping it's reversable cause I think Im still alittle too young to be going through menopause.

I am 18 years old and i havent had my period since march. For the past two years i have had irregular periods but i have never gone this long. At least once a month i have, i guess you would call it "spotting", but its a very dark color, almost like a brown. I have mild cramps every once in a while like my period wants to come, but it never does. I have taken two preg. tests in may, and two in june, and they were all negative. I dont know what to do. I researched ammenorrhea and ovarian cancer and my symptoms dont match up. I dont have an obgyn or a doctor. I dont know what to do. My boobs are tender, but i really dont have anything like moods swings or food cravings. Its comforting to know that im not the only one who is going through this, but i would still just like to be normal again. If anyone can help, please do so. Also, when i do have my period i have extremely painful cramps for the first two days, and then for the rest of period im fine.

Im also worried because my boyfriend and i are also talking about having a baby either by the end of this year or the beginning of the next one and im worried that i might not be able to get pregnant. We have tried before and i have never been able to get pregnant so im worried that i still wont be able to when we are ready. does anyone know what i can do to become more fertile or make me have my periods?

hiya girls just been reading some of your comments...

I used to have really light periods like just 1 hr bleeding a very light pinky colour. the last 2 years i was going to doct asking if this was normal together with a very sharp pain inside that only lasts for a few seconds. they always said it's normal not to worry. then 3months ago i had a smear test. 3 months later i'm booked for a radical hysterectomy. i'm only 26 and no childrens so really sad e depressed as this was my bigest dream to have a family.
all i'm saying girls is always make sure you insist with the doctors to do more tests.
if my cancer was found out last year i would be fine now i would be able to have my baby.

I am 22.  I havent had a period since January 4th.  In that time span I was pregnant for 6 weeks, then had a miscarrage (miscarriage) and a d&c.  My d&c was on 4-16-08.  I still havent had a period, and my OBGYN is telling me I have to wait until October before she will do anything for it.  I am freaking out because I have a family history of different types of cancer.  I am now having sharp pains, and bleeding during/after intercourse.  I would love to have my period so I can get pregnant.

Hello All.
I'm also 22, and stopped taking my birth control in February.  My last period lasted for 4 days at the end of Feb., and I have not had one since. Over 6 months later!  I have abstained from sex for quite some time, so pregnancy is not an option.  I had a physical in May, and the doctor said that my lack of menstruation was normal...but that was only a couple months without it.

I have had a history with ruptured ovarian cysts, which are by far the MOST PAINFUL things to have to go through.  I had them twice within a year, but have not experienced them since...both while I was taking BC.  The kind I had I believe were hemorrhagic cysts.  Dealing with those again would be pure hell.

Before getting on BC as a freshman in college, my periods were very irregular and often non-existent.  I chalked it up to being a very active athlete (athletic amenorrhea); but as a college grad with a decreased level of activity than before, I just pray that something is not wrong with me.  My worst fears: ovarian cancer or endometriosis. I know I could probably just go back on the pill, but like everyone else, I wonder if the same thing will happen again down the line if I go off once more...

by shaymo, Sep 03, 2008 09:13PM
Holy ****... I've gone 2 months and some day without my period...But Im experiencing ovary pain! I've take 6 pregnancy test to be sure I'm not pregnant...Should I get a blood one done??? Did you have any discomfort with this process!?

Hey all I have been reading some of the comments because as most of you I am scared.  I am 25 years old and just go off the pill the second to last week of April.  My husband was home for four the last week of April before his deployment.  I took two preg test in May they were negative.  Two in June and one in July all negative.  No period still and it is September.  I have never missed a period never not even in High school or College when I played softball for both.  I was on the pill for eight years but always had a period they got lighter on the pill but never missed.  I called the doctor on the third month missed and she said to come and have some blood work done.  That all came back negative.  I go this week for a vaginal ultrasound and I am scared.  I went off the pill because when my husband gets home from his deployment we want to try and have a baby.  I have always wanted kids that is why I worked in Daycare for 11 years and finally became a school teacher.  I don't know what I would do if I couldn't have babies!!!!  It sounds like my doctor is on track with wanting to find out what is really going on I am just scared.  I know I am stressed with the deployment and working full time and going to school but geee.  Also I have never ever gotten zits before and I am getting them around my hair line as well as in between my breast what the heck.  I never thought at my age and always getting my Aunt flo that I would ever have to deal with this.  It is stressful all on its own.  I mean not change in color discharge nothing what is up with all of this.

You are not the only one with that problem. I've never been regular ever since i started my period at the age of 13. The first time it happend i was really scared so i told my mom and she asked me if i have been sexually active with a guy, i told her no, then she was like then u don;t need to worry abt it. am now 23 and i've never had my period every month. I have it 3 times a yr, which is every 4 months just like you. I've been to a couple of doctors and they all say the same thing, there's nothing wrong with me. One wanted to put me on a pill that will make it regular, then i told him no thanks, i will do that when am ready to have kids. My only source of relief is that my mom is like me even some of my aunties toor like that and they all have kids.  So in ur case you don't really have to stress abt it too much, it's normal for some of us. Not all women are the same. But if u want to get it every month, then see ur doctor, so that he/she can prescribe some medication for you. Good luck!!

by leah445, Sep 20, 2008 06:16PM
Wow... I cannot believe how many of you have the same problem... Thank you all for posting
Feb - Period
May - Period
Sept - still waiting.... 4.5 months, VERY BLOATED AND FEEL FULL, Painful lower back pain and constipated... I had sex about 4 months ago, but if I was 4 months pregnant I would know it... I do not have ANY of the signs... except lower back pain.
I work 14 hours a day, very emotionally stressed too.
Is the cause for MASSIVE bloating a sign that yes your period is there... but there is something in there not allowing it to actually HAPPEN!!... it scares the hell out of me.

I am living in a country where no one speaks English, I live alone, no car, no friends due to work and a very bloated tummy.

Is anyone incredibly bloated and having lower back pain... let me not forget Emotional!!!!

I tried everything... nothing will induce my period.

I am a mother of 3 children and in July 03' I had a tubial done. The doctor used a method of all 3.. tied clipped and burned. Prior to my 3rd child I had to have my cervix frozen because of pre-cancer cells. Now I haven't had a period in over 4 months, my stomach cramps like I am on my period but nothing ever happens. I am unsure of what is going on and I have no kind of health insurance at all and do not know where to turn now. Everyday I feel like the muscles in my stomach jumping and kind of flutters almost like a heartbeat ... the home pregnancy tests that I have taken have came back negative. I am so unsure of what to do ... someone please give me some advice!! Thanks alot in advance!!

I havent had a period for 5 months now I have gone to mutiple doctors and found out today that maybe the reason for it is called a Pituitary Gland. It acts as a switch board and triggers your Thyroid if this happens it will make your body do crazy things. I have pregnancy like symtoms even breast milk but I'm not pregnant. The Thyroid creates hormones without the correct hormones your body can go out of wack, I have depression, anxiety, stress, parinoia, I cant sleep I have gained 15lbs. But the fix can be easy getting diagnosed is the hard part. I hope this info can help the rest of you out.
I also have had my doctors look at me like i'm crazy just remember its your body and you have the controll dont take no from a doctor. I went to the doctor atleast once a week for a month, still didnt get any answers. I decided to go see another doctor and got totally diffrent ideas and better advice. I feel guilty for doing that to my Primary Care doctor but atleast now I know more than I have in the past 5 months.
I hope this will help some of you who still hasnt got any answers!!!

I have heard of problems with the pituitary gland also… about tumors on it (don’t wanna scare anyone) but I heard have the doctors to test your prolactin levels which is a hormone and if you have low prolactin you might have a tumor on your pituitary Do your reach search on it it can cause missed periods. But I don’t think I read anything about it being deadly or anything. Thats the best answer Ive gotten from another forum.
Anyway…
I am 18 years old (19 in Feb) and for the past year I have not been having a period for 6 months and then staying on my period for more than a week. I am not on birth control and haven’t been for over a year.
Here some details that may or may not be relevant:
In 2004 I went to my doctor because I was having very bad pelvic pain and she put me on birth control (Ortho tri cyclin lo)
In 2005 I was diagnosed with endometriosis
In 2006 I had a laparoscopy  and was put on the birth control Yasmine and told to take it so that I only have 2 periods a year but I don’t think I ever took it the way I should and had more than that.
In September 2007 I stopped taking Yasmine had a period in October (15th) and November (18th) both lasting for 4 days. Then I didn’t have a period intil June 5 and it stayed on for 10 days. Then from October 22nd intil November 5th and then on the 21st and 22nd I had some very light spotting daily. The discharge would be very light pink or light brown or it would be darker in the morning and by the end of the day it would be off.  Then it actually came on for real December 10th intil December 28th and during that time it was very heavy with large clots. I experienced a little nausea and virtually no cramps.
I see my OB/GYN every February since 2004
I had sex Dec 31st 2007… once a week April & May… 4 times during June & July.. then the last time was Nov 21st.
I have no history of cancer in my family
Im 4’11” and 100lbs
My stress level is very low
My mood stays the same pretty much all the time
I started my period when I was in 2nd grade
I haven’t been to my doctor since Feb 2008
Im not pregnant, Im not tryin to get pregnant nor am I scared.. but I would like to know.. but I just hate the diagnosis process!

Firstly, let me say I've read a lot of your comments and I have all the same symptoms.  i am 32 and went off the pill in September and have not had a period since.  Since I'm trying to get pregnant, obviously no period was a great concern!  I went to my OBGYN, who is a fabulous doctor and is widely known in Eastern Ontario (Canada).  He diagnosed me with Poly Cystic Ovary Syndrom (syndrome) (PCOS). In a nutshell what is happening is I am not producing enough progesterone to "push the eggs out" Which in turn is forming little cysts around my eggs and since the eggs aren't being pushed out, I'm not ovulating.
My doctor prescribed me 10 days of Novo-medrone (10mg) to induce a period.  I took my last pill today.  My period is supposed to start in a couple of days, and then on the fifth day of my period, I start clomid to stimulate ovulation.  Hopefully this will work.  The bottom line is ladies, this is VERY common.  Approx 1 in 3 women experience annovulation (not ovulating) at some point in their lives.  Don't feel like you're not a woman, or abnormal, we're not!  It is common and can be fixed.  Best of luck ladies! You are not alone!  Take Care :-)

My girlfriend is having similar problems. She is 22 years old. She went off the pill and since has not gotten her period. Its been about 10 months or so. She is constantly in alot of pain and her body is tired all the time. She has gained about 20-30 pounds also. Her vagina is also extremely sensitive to the point that she cant have sex because its far too painful. Even her last visit to her woman doctor caused her extreme pain. She said it felt like a knife was scraping around inside her. Shes had many tests done but they cant figure out whats wrong. Theyve now scheduled her for a colposcopy. I am pretty worried so Ive just started doing some internet research and came across this discussion. It seems alot of people with similar problems have all stopped taking the pill so maybe that has something to do with it? This seems like a good discussion site for people to communicate with people having similar problems so I'll definately post an update after her next test. Thanks to everyone for their posts, every bit of information helps. I hope those of you having similar problems find out whats wrong and get better!

Whoa! All along i felt sad and alone thinking that i'm the only one with this problem. I was on the depo shot for approx2 years; however, i discontinued the shot in May 08. May 09 is approaching and I have still not seen my period. I am scared, confused, and worried! Most women go on the birth control with the intentions to block out all potential pregnancies, but doesn't realize that it is an obstacle when the time comes to get pregnant! My biggest issue is that im afraid of not being able to have kids because of stupidddd decisions!! which is wanting to have sex at an early ageeeee and had to resort to birth control in order to do so ! I'm only 20!!!!!!!  what should i do ? i want to see my period! i want to ovulate!

Hey I'm only 14 almost 15 and haven't had my period for like 5 months and it's stressing me out but I was always really really light and not on time so I don't know eat to do

by Amita71, Apr 30, 2009 03:53PM
My period has always been irregular, at the most, skipping one month at a time.  The first time I skipped my period for more than a month was back in 1998 at that was for 5 months.  At the time I was 26, a student with a boyfriend on the east coast.  Honestly I just thought it was the stress that caused my period to be elusive for that long.

I am now 37 and I again am in the same predicament.  I don't recall getting my period in Nov 2008, but I know for sure I did not have it from Dec 2008 through today (5 months).  I am currently unemployed and so I cannot afford to go to the doctor.  I don't have a boyfriend and haven't in a year so I know I'm not pregnant.  In the past my gynecologist had told me that they could induce my period as it's not good for your health to skip so many months and that the next time I should come in to do so.  To be honest, I think it might be early menopause.  Aside from hot flashes, cold sweats and irregular sleeping, does anyone know the other symptoms?  I've had all of these and to be honest, I could care less if I ever get my period again.  The only downfall is that if it is early menopause...my chance of ever having a child is null and void.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Hi I agree with what Jenn1976 wrote in February.  I have the same problem and I have had irregular periods from the time i first got it.  I have a GYNO and he explained to me that lack of periods is very very common and nothing is done about it until you ask go see a doc and tell them specifically what your concerns are and what you are experiencing even though it's embarassing.   A common problem many girls have and don't know about is Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and majority of the time it doesn't cause any pain.  It does cause wieght gain and at time for some unfortunate woman extra hair growth.  PCOS is so commom but until you ask about it and get an ultrasound (usually Transvaginal) it's doesn't get diagnosed.  I'm on the same thing as Jenn 1976.  When you turn 30 it is important to get a period every month.  If you look up PCOS or lack of monthly periods often puts women at a higher risk for cervix cancer.  The NovoMedrone they prescribe is only around $20 with the pharmacy dispensing fee.  Until I turned 30 my GYNO wasn't pushy about missing periods and recommended that if I didn't get a period every 3 months to see him but now that I'm 30 he tells me that every month i am suppose to get a period.  Good Luck girls and please go see a GYNO and not just a regular doctor so you can be diagnosed properly.

Here is a site to read:  http://www.health.com/health/library/topic/0,,tw9103_tw9109,00.html

and here are a few symptoms from the website above:
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)

If you are between 20 and 40 years old, see your doctor if you have:

Menstrual cycles that are consistently less than 21 days apart or more than 35 days apart.
Regular menstrual cycles but you have been trying unsuccessfully to become pregnant for more than 12 months.
Vaginal bleeding that lasts more than 8 days; large clots; or excessive spotting.
Pelvic pain that lasts for more than 4 weeks.
Excessive hair growth or hair growing on the chest, back, belly, or face (hirsutism).
Any symptoms of diabetes, such as increased thirst and frequent urination (especially at night), unexplained increase in appetite, unexplained weight loss, fatigue, blurred vision, or tingling or numbness in your hands or feet.
Skin problems such as acne, oily skin, dandruff, skin tags (acrochordons) in the armpits or neck area, or dark skin patches (acanthosis nigricans) in skin folds or on the neck, groin, or underarms.
Depression or mood swings. Many women may have emotional problems related to the many physical symptoms of PCOS, such as excess hair, obesity, or infertility.
Excess weight gain or upper body obesity (more abdominal fat than hip fat). This is also known as android obesity and is related to increased male hormone (testosterone) levels.

If you are a teenage girl, see your doctor if you have:

Fewer than eight menstrual cycles a year, and this has lasted for 2 years after you started menstruation.
Severe acne.
Hair loss from your scalp.
Excessive hair growth or hair growing in places such as the chest, back, belly, or face.
Menstrual cycles that are consistently less than 21 days apart or more than 45 days apart.
Excess weight gain or upper body obesity (more abdominal fat than hip fat). This is linked to high androgen levels.

This website state that it does not intend to replace medical opinion so please see your doctor/GYNO for a proper diagnoses.

oh my goodness, I am glad i read your notes jenn, I have been freaking out for the last few months about not having a period, not having insurance has made it hard for me to go check but tomorrow finally i am doing it, I think i might have what you called PCOS I have all the symptoms and the gainning weight issue is just gotten out of control, I had a problem with ovarian cysts when I was 15 yrs old, so after reading all of this leads me to believe that i might have PCOS. I will keep you post it ladies. Thank you for sharing your experiences.

I too have had a constant battle with my mentstrual cycle since I was old enough to have one.  When I was 14 I woke up with a bloated feeling and bad cramps.  I hadn't had my period yet, so I thought maybe, finally, it would start.  Instead the pain got worse, to the point of doubling over and no blood came.  I went to the hospital and ended up in surgery to remove my hymen which was blocking the flow.  Apparently I'd been having my period for almost a year or so and it was pooling in my uterus.  I am a small person (5'3 and 115lbs)  and had no visual bloating or pain of any kind while I was bleeding inside.
After that my periods came once every few months, which really never bothered me.  I was sexually active through highschool and went on and off birth control throughout.  I never became pregnant.
Then I settled down and began dating a guy steadily and we had unprotected sex the whole time.  I still had regular periods every 3 months.
Then after a year and a half of dating I got pregnant at 19.
After my baby my periods were heavy and much more frequent.  Even predictable.
We tried to have more children for several years, but to no avail.  Two years ago we broke up and me and my new fiance have been trying to get pregnant for one year and nothing.
Now at the age of 26 my periods have stopped.  Last October I had a period, then in January I had one.  It's May and no spotting, no cramps, bloating nothing.  I go through periods of breaking out and breast tenderness, but that's it.
My mother and all the women on her side of the family have irregular periods also, but they all have 2 or more children and never had a problem getting pregnant.  My mom has been pregnant 4 times!  I know how depressing and frustrating all of this can be.  I love children and have wanted a large family for a long time.  My fiance is the best and would make the greatest father.  I hope to get some answers from my doctors soon.  Best of luck to everyone.

I have high blood pressure, and have pretty regular periods.  I'm also on medication for my blood pressure.  In the last 19 months, I've had sex with the same person only 3 times.  Twice, and then 8 months later, once.  After the first two times, my period remained normal.  After the one time together 8 months later, my period showed up like it should have the following month, but I only spotted for the first and beginning of the second day.  Now its been 2 months since that's happened.  I've taken 2 pregnancy tests; both negative.  I dont think i'm pregnant, but can't understand why my period is a no show 2 months in a row, only after i've had sex this one time.  I want to have a baby.  But I'm really not sure if I can.  I hope my missing period is not some kind of mind trip.  I"m only 29.

Hey thanks for your posts. I have been having completely irregular periods since I hit my 20s. I'm 29 now. Things are not much better. When I was 25 I had an ovarian cyst which burst and a whole manner of triouble happened with that, and was told I would be prone to cysts and was put on the pill to help minimise them. That made me pretty regular for a few years (which was a relief) until last year. Every month my period (which is supposed t be made lighter and less painful while on the pill) became heavier and heavier and the pain increased in intensity until October 08 when I was literaly doubled up crying with the pain, thats when I went back to my GP who said I was growing immune to my pill as I've been on it so long and changed the brand for me, the next 3 months my periods were later and later and still very heavy and painful so my GP again changed my pill, but they still were arriving later (strangely by 1/2 days later each month than before and always finishing the day after I went back on the pill each month) so by the time I got to Feb 09 I had no period at all! My pill had been chaged 3 times by now. I was told to have no break in between my next pill to boost the hormones but still no period arrived so my GP changed my pill AGAIN and on my request referred me to a gynae. My appointment is in Dec 09 so I have a bit of a wait. My period finally xame this month, late by a few days but still here, and not as heavy as one might think  after not having it for 5 months or so but I feel so light headed and so much pain. Thing is while each month I didnt get my period I would still get the symptoms. Like I would get the bloating (which carried on through each month and added to the next month - I now look about 6 mo ths pregnant and have actually been offered seats on the train!) the PMS the aches but now bleeding. Its like I have a blockage. I looked at amenorrehea but it doesnt seem to relate to me. Just have to wait for thr gym appointment in Dec I guess. *****! Oh and I'm not pregnant, did the tests myself and also blood tests and urine tests with GP, all negative.

Oh and girlygirl888 - if your worried you should talk to your mom/GP/someone you trust about your fears!

Hi
Thanks for writing to the forum!
I am sure you must have tested for pregnancy. Also I am not sure about your age. But if you have not had period for 4 months you must get another checkup from your gynecologist. Some cysts cause hormonal imbalance and hence delayed periods. It could also be due to hypothyroidism too. If you are in menopausal age group then its normal, but here also you must get a check up.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

Ok...having read all the posts, would appreciate if someone could holla back on mine...

Have PCOS...been through mennorhagia...this march was the time I got off the pill...and havent had my cycle since...

Recently had unprotected sex (foolish thing to do,1st and last time)...
What are the chances of getting pregnant? As far as I know ovulation begins before the actual period so I wouldnt know if I would have had the cycle this month...

Appreciate a response to this...cheers !!!
Have a great day !!!   =)

Thanks guys, i felt really wierd amongst all my other mates, i'm 14 and i started my period when i was 12 almost 13 and ever since i only had a couple of them every 4 months, my mum said it was just because it was my first and i heard it last for about 15 months, but its almost been 2 years and i have been so worried, i lost my virginity soon after my 13th and i thought i was pregnant even though i used protection but i had my period after that, but there still irregular. i thought i might have an STI or something so got a test and it came back negative, so i started researching. but it made me feel like i wasn't a woman and a bit of a freak, but knowing that you guys have experienced the same thing made me feel alot better! and i am going to go to the docters for help, but thank you for making me feel better :)

I have read all of your comments and I haven't had a period since April of this year, I am 34 yrs old, I have not been on bc for over 5yrs but I also never have un protected sex, I have also been having sharp pains in the bottom of my stomach bloating and irregular bowel movements, I have only been going like once every two weeks unless I take a laxitive, I havn't been to a doctor because I can't really afford one, I haven't had any other pregnacy symptoms besides the missed periods which I have had before  and bloating.

Hello, so, I've had irregular periods ever since I started. I started my period at age 15, had it for about 5 months and then nothing until I was 17. After that, I would have my period for one or 2 months and then I wouldn't have it for a month or two and sometimes even three. I went to my doctor about it and she put me on birth control which helped, I was pretty regular for a few months but I went off of it because I didn't like the way my body reacted to it, I got really moody and tired all of the time. This went on until september 2008. I had one in september but didn't have one for months! I went to a doctor in April and he told me that because I'm overweight is why I'm not having me period. Yes, I am overweight, but I have always been overweight and it has never gone that long without having one. Ironically, I started my period about a week after I went to the doctor but it was extremely lighter than usual. But I haven't had one since then. I've taken multiple pregnancy tests and they have all returned negative, even the ones at the doctor. I've lost almost 20 punds since my doctor's visit hoping that it will help me get my periods back. But I have had no luck what so ever. Is there anyone out there that has experienced the same thing or that might have some answers?

well I am 13 years old and i have been having my period since i was 12 and I recently have been having irregular periods. I went 4 months without having one. Then august 31 I started and bleed for 6-7 days, And I went to the doctor and they done blood work and it all came back great. But I had a pelvic ultrasound, I have PCOS (polycystric overie syndrome) and the doctor put me on yazmine, so that the folicles on my overies dont turn to cyist, and to regulate my period, but I have to wait untill I start again which should be in two weeks but she said if I dont just to pick a Sunday and take the pill.

Hello Ladies, I haven't had a period since May 2009. The last time I had sex was December 2008, So I know that I'm not pregnant. I'm 21 years old and my period is usually irregular. It happened before at 17, My last period was May that year and it didn't come until August. I wonder if it has anything to do with the Summer. I seem to breakout every summer for some reason. Maybe the climate change affects my hormones or something. Can anyone else correlate that missing period with the whether too?

by sarahlynn89, Oct 08, 2009 09:23PM
hey im having the same problem, my period has been absent scince i went off the BC pill in may this year. Ive been to my doc and he said to try black cohosh to bring up my estrogen levels so i went on it for a month, then i had pinkish spotting for about 2 days (sept 22nd-24th) and then nothing, THEN last thursday i had the most horrible cramps like i was in labour for about 3 hours, 3 days later on the sunday i got them again. SO i went to my doc and he said that was from me ovualting and i bled for those 2 days becuase my estrogen was back up. He thinks that i may have gotten pregnant on that weekend ( my hubby and i are TTC) so he said we are going to wait another week, if i dont start my period he is doing a beta HCG test ( preg test by blood) im sooo nervous im hoping im pregnant. If not then im back to square one....waiting. ugh.

I have a friend who was having this same problem, she stopped taking birth control because she wanted to get pregnant and she missed her period for like 5 months but wasn't prego. She went to the doctor and they ran some tests on her and apparently she was missing periods because she had a hormone imbalance, so they actually made her start taking birth control again to get a period. Weird isn't it?
