OT- prolonged periods, acne, emotional and weight gain!!

Hi, my names rachel I have three children. For the past three months my periods have gone haywire! I'm normally every 28 days and lasting about 5-6 days. My periods have been pretty much the same for the Last 12 years. Now the lsat three months my periods have been extremely heavy with large clots (usually about the size of a lime) then when it comes it lasts for 5-6 days stops for about 2 days then comes back for 5-6 days. I am also experiencing acne which before was never an issue. I'm extremely emotional and I've gained 9lbs I'm always hungry. I went to the doctor last month who gave me a script for nuvaring which I hate hormonal bc so I haven't started taking it. I did have a miscarriage in november but I was so so early along that they couldn't even get a positive urine test they got an early positive via blood then two days later I mc. My hcg levels immediately went back to normal so my doctor said she doesn't think thats what has caused all this. If anyone has an opinion or similar experience I'd b very appreciative! Xx thanks!! xX

I always had super heavy painful periods and clots until my 30s.  I also have a history of fibroids.   If your doctor does not think that this is a result of the miscarriage creating some sort of issue with the lining of your uterus then I would ask her opinion about the possibility of a fibroid.  An ultrasound usually is a very easy way to diagnose them.  I had 2 large ones in my history.  After the second one was removed my periods became lighter.  It might be worth checking out just to be sure.  Good luck and maybe it is simply some sort of hormone fluctuation that will correct itself with time.  Take care.

Did they do an u/s or anything or did he say that based on the fact that you already have children? You should try the nuvaring that the dr prescribed because it's different type of b/c then the pill. My OB thought I had endometriosis for a while too because I had similar symptoms and could not take the pill because then I was ALWAYS  on my period(no fun). She did an u/s and found nothing, and prescribed me the patch. I actually had no issues on the patch, but silly me just stopped putting it on and now  I am 20weeks!

They did think a while back that I had it because midcycle every so often I get lower abdominal pain so bad that I could cry but the obgyn said since I have no problem with fertility that he highly doubts that's what it is.
