Off BC 5 Months_Trying 5 Months_Having 38-40 day long cycles_Am I Ovulating?

Hi!  I have been off Birth Control for 5 months.  My period start dates are as follows:  May 28, July 5, August 10, September 16, October 25....so my average cycle length is like 35-40 days long.  Based upon Ovulation Calculators I should be ovulating between November 13 and 19th.  I am doing the Ovulation Predictor kits (on my 3rd box of 7 this month).  For the first couple of weeks I had a very faint line indicating the LH.....but just this week, the very week i'm supposed to ovulate, the line has disappeared...like the LH isn't there anymore.  I have been testing cervical mucus also...my mucus was egg white like but limited on Tuesday, November 15 so I thought that the amount would get larger and I'd ovulate soon.  Well, Wednesday morning I was as dry as could be.  So needless to say I'm confused.  I really don't think I'm ovulating, but maybe i'm wrong.  I guess I have a couple of questions.  Is a 38-40 day cycle normal?  Should I continue taking ovulation predictor tests if I am not getting any line at all?  What about Clomid?  Should I order it?  I found a place online where I can order it without prescription.  Since I don't have insurance this would be the only way for me to afford it....unless the doctor called it in without me visiting him...should I take it without making multiple doctor visits?  Can you instruct me on how to take Clomid?  When is the best time for intercourse during supposed "fertile" time?  Thanks.  Sorry for the bagillions of questions.

When I desided to have children I went on the computer and found out when I should ovulate. I got pregnant with both of my girls the first month of trying. So i assume iam very firtile. Now we have desided to h try for a third but my periods are all over the place. My last period was in the middle of October and I am still waiting for it. I did not get it in November and I know Iam not pregnant because we have not had sex. But Iam wondering how do I find out when Iam ovulating when my period cycle is so long. Also when you buy ovulation kits how many tests are in them? Also I read about the saliva tests. Do they work and can you keep using it over again? Can I really buy one at Walmart? Thanks

Hello everyone, need any advice i can get my husband i have been ttc for about 2yrs now my cycles range from 35-40 days so i know that's irregular but i was told that it shouldn't prevent me from getting pregnant. I just recently got blood work done to find out if my LH ,FSH, Prolactin, and all that fertility stuff is working properly and they all came back fine so now i'm just confused what the problem is i'm doing everything from BBT, Ovulation Predictors, Fertility Blend, Dieting, Pre-seed, the list just keeps going but still no results i know that its in God's hands but at this point i'm concerned that i may be suffering from a something like PCOS because i do have many of the symptoms but when my blood work came back ok it confused me so now i'm just waiting for my next appointment with my obgyn which is Oct 26, my period started on Sept. 23 so i should ovulate before my appt. but i'm just wondering if i should take it easy this cycle and relax until i talk to the doc about PCOS b/c i feel as though i'm really not getting anywhere and i'm spending a lot of money. i'm 23yrs old and my husband is 26yrs old, so we're  right at the childbearing ages but still nothing!

I had chlymidia for about a year, finding out about it and getting the prescription a little over two years ago. Since I took the prescription, everything had gone back to normal for about four months. My husband and I got married in April, and for the three or so months before we got married we did not have sex. My March period was normal, but April '06 it wasn't. It lasted about 24 hours. Since then, my periods have all followed suit, lasting a few hours to three days (About six hours of normal flow and then two and a half days of spotting). I had been tracking my cycle length and each cycle was about 32 days long, with the same short period and no pregnancy. Then, about six months ago, my cycle changed to 43 day cycles. I've also noticed that the blood doesn't look right, it's very bright red instead of the normal dark almost purplish in color. Four months ago I had a normal-length period, with the blood appearing normal. Two months ago my cycle was almost two months long (54 days), then last month it was 39 days, still short and light period. I have no idea what's wrong! I don't have health insurance, and when I've gone to the free health clinic and had my blood tested it came back okay. I think I've had a burst cyst or two, since there were two times that my lower abdomen hurt so freakin bad and it was right after my period started, then the pain would go away within a few hours/a day. I don't know where to start, since my husband and I have been trying since april 1 2006 to get pregnant, and he already has a kid so I know it's not him. Is there any herbal remedy that works quickly and isn't bogus??? Anyone have any suggestions????

Hi all, trying for a baby since stopping mini pill in May. Been keeping charts with fertility friend.com and this will be the 2nd cycle with decent readings. Looking at 38 day long cycle which was initially a worry as before went on the pill had lovely 28 day ones, but see a few others experiencing the same. What I have found however is I have been having menstrual cramps from just after my charted ovulation day right up to when my period is due. Find this odd and worry what is going on in there. Again I have seen a few other comments made about the same on other websites but replies are limited. I am due for my period this weekend and fingers crossed I dont get one but as all signs say a period is coming already getting disappointed. See from others however that symptoms can be the same. Have a wishy washy tummy/nausea/low appetite sometimes this last week but had gall bladder out in March so cant rely on that. Been very tired this week sleeping like a log and a late afternoon nap would have been wonderful. Had those cramps, breasts very sore and uncomfortable to lie on last night. Hot and cold flushes. Did have sex just when should have done but no bleeding anytime so far. Did have an implantation dip like bbt reading this month but had the same last month too. Very confusing. Had a couple of episodes of a sore belly too like a really full bladder has just been emptied and still feels sore afterwards? Hope you know what I mean. Anyway, just wanted to chat and see if anyone had anything soothing to say. Thanks for reading

hi i've been trying to get pregnant since last year november.  I started on clomind in janurary and i still haven't gotten pregnant. I did everything that my doctor told me to do and i still haven't seen results. I'm so frustrated right now! my menstrual cycle usually last between 28 to 35 days long. I used to be irregular and had a history of endometriosis and hpv. I was treated 2-3 years ago and so far every pap smear has turned out with good results. My doctor has said that I should be pregnant right now. I really don't want to do ivf treatments because they cost to much money. I was charting my bbt regularly but I stopped bcuz again I wasn't getting any results. Any information or advice would help

BD= Baby Dance or Boogie Down

As far as I know, there is really not a way to tell if you are preg before testing.  The reason is that early pregnancy symptoms are just like PMS.  Even if you don't typically have PMS signs don't be surprised if you get them. Almost every woman on here that is TTC, myself included, just knew they were pregnant b/c they had symptoms they never had before and sure enough AF arrived.  You are just going to to have to wait for AF to show up.  Most test work when you are 1 day late.  There is a First Response test that lets you test 4 days before AF is due, but it's got a bad rep.  If you go to peeonastick.com there is a warning that this test is notorious for giving false positives.  Many women on epinions.com also have complained about this test.  If you are Oing today, then just wait 2 weeks and then you can get your answer.  Let us know what happens!

Thanks girls for the advice!  but.....Guess What?  I had a couple of ovulation tests left in my box so i figured i'd finish them this weekend and then try something else...well, the Ovulation predictor predicted an LH surge...which means that I should ovulate within 24-36 hours....so my new question is..When is the best time for intercourse now that I know i'm about to ovulate?  Thanks again.  God bless.

The way you BBT is by checking your temp at the same time every a.m. before you even get out of bed.  Don't talk, go to the bathroom, or anything.  Just put the thermometer where you can just roll over and pick it up.  I bought a BBT thermometer from CVS (their brand) for $10. It's great b/c it has a memory feature so if I want to go back to sleep I can just check my temp later.  You will record your temps each day on a chart.  After you O, you will notice an increase in temps, probably by at least .4.  Your temps will stay raised until AF comes, and when that happens you are on a new cycle so you start a new chart.  Some things to remember: You need at least 4 hours of sleep for an accurate temp reading; If you drink alcohol the night before you will probably see an increase; you need to check your temp at the same time.  I usually check mine at 6:00, but sometimes I might wake up around 5:30.  When that happens I just go ahead and check it then b/c I figure that's close enough.  You just want to be as consistent as possible.  If you go to babycenter.com and enter "BBT Chart" in the search box you can download a chart for free.  You can also go to fertilityfriend.com and chart online.  It's a good way to get started, but I know for sure that it has miscalculated my O day by a day or two before.  You might still try it though.  Don't be put off if this sounds too complicated.  It takes a while to really get it, but it is so worth it!  Let me know if I can offer more help.  Oh! And I don't know anything about the O scopes.

Just a quick comment... I'd get an ovulation scope. You'll save a lot of $$ while chasing your ovulation. I'm in the same boat! $20 for the scope and it lasts indefinitely! It tests your saliva. I got mine at Walmart. Good luck!

Thanks so much!  I guess my problem is that I want immediate results...clomid seems to have the ability to do that.  Everything I read says that the "bad" side effects are rare.  Do I need to take my BBT at a certain time of day?  How much of a decrease should I see?  What kind of thermometer should i use?  Thanks for all your help!

OK, I'm going to try to answer all of your questions.  A "normal" cycle is anything between 26-35 days, so technically your's is irregular.  Don't panic though, the fact that you are at least getting your period is a good sign.  Your body may still be adjusting from coming off the BCP.  Every woman is different and it may just take you a bit longer. You may not like this, but the best way to tell if you are Oing is to start BBT charting.  The only downside is that it tellsyou after you O, not before.  I still recommend it though b/c: it confirms O, you will see a noticeable temp increase; it tells you if your luteal phase (time form O to AF) is long enough to support implantaion; it can tell you if you are pregnant; it can tell you if you are having a m/c; and if you end up having to see a fertility specialist later on you will have excellent records of what is going on with your body.  Don't rely on OPKs to tell you when you O.  They don't work for everyone.  I used an OPK last cycle for the first time and it never detected my LH surge. If I hadn't been BBT charting I would have assumed I didn't O and then would have worried for no reason.  I ended up missing my chance last cycle b/c I was relying on the OPK.  I Oed a week early b/c of Vitex, which is the next thing I want to tell you about.  Do not order Clomid!  If you really feel like you need help order Vitex instead.  It is an herb that balances out your hormones. It takes a couple of months to see results, but it does work.  I went from Oing on CD 20 to CD 13!  I order mine from Red Moon Herbs. There are a lot of other things you can try to increase your fertility, so let me know if your interested.  My last bit of advice: Get a copy of "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler.  It's an invaluable resource.  Best of luck and let me know if I can offer more help.
