Hi, I'm 25 and I have posted one other time on this board. I was wondering how long it takes to get your period after you come off of depo? I have been off of it for almost a month and I have had no signs of a cycle. This is my second time using depo and the first time I came off of depo I had my period within 3 weeks. This time nothing. What should I expect? If its not the same as last time.
I just posted a response on another Depo question so I wont go into detail here, but I was on Depo and had been ireegular since I was off (after 3 years on) I got AF right away but then it was irregular from then on. Sometimes I think it just takes longer to get out of your system. I think it depends on when your last injection was - when I say I got AF right away I should add it was after I missed the next round (so after 3 months had passed) AF returned right away. Good luck - sorry cant be of more help, another poster mentioned to check the acrhives, others have posted Depo questions. Good luck!
Depo can stay in your system anywhere from 12-24 months...for some people its different so thats not for everyone. Depo messes your body up do it could be a while or it could be tomorrow when you start. I took 2 shots of Depo and then decided to go on BCP and when I stopped the BCP's in Aug 04 I still have not had AF because the Depo is still in my system..I have used Provera twice to make me have AF. You may want to talk to your Dr and see what they think. Best of Luck!
It took me two years after coming off depo to have a period and that was after using wild yam (natural estrogen) cream for about 6 months - depo screws up your system - I only found out after I had been on it for a year that this is what they give to chemically castrate men! Go figure - last time I ever believed my doctor without doing research!
I was on Depo for 10 years. At the time I thought it was fantastic. Never got a period, not even break through bleeding. Then my doctor took me off it because of a blood clot that was contributed to by the Depo- although not solely responsible. I went off Depo in November 2006, by February I was getting a bleed on and off for a few weeks. I would say that it took me a good 6 months before I got anything significant. Now my system is screwed up. I get a bleed, I don't get a bleed. I get a heavy bleed that makes me bedridden with pain, I bleed without pain. I can't predict what is going to happen. So you have made the right decision my friend. Good luck
I was on depo for one year i stopped using it about 2 months ago .i dont know if i started my period yet but i found brownish wet stuff and it hasnt gone away. i hope it is my period lol i never thought i would ever get excited over my period but now i cant wait until it comes so if anyone knows what it could be please comment thank you
iknow you wrote your comment back in august, but the whole time i was on the shot (about 5 years) i would have what you were talking about.. brown wet stuff..it was enough that i had to wear a panty liner, but not enough for a pad/tampon. and sometimes it would last for a while two weeks. now i have gone off the depo, and im def starting to experience mood swings.. slight tenderness in breasts, and major major lower abdominal pain. so much so.. if it isn't gone by tomorrow, im gonna call my doc. hopefully they can help me out. haveing pain/cramps and no period... not nice.. good luck!
I have been on mine since august of 2009 . and i never took the shot again .... i finally had my period febuary of this year . stress can cause alot for it not to come on ... ( dont stress :) but it doesnt take long ... just a while for it to get back to normal .
i have been on the shot for almost a year and i was suppose to go back last week but didnt and now im bleeding. i didnt think i would get a period in just 9 days of missing the depo shot unless its something else wrong.

yeah my first period took 2 months to come back after i expected it to after depo i had all the usual pregnancy symtoms and felt for sure i was but just my hormones getting back on track and have had 5 cycles now and am only just back to regular i have gone up to 56 days inbetween cycles .However you could be 1 of the lucky ones and actually be pregnant try taking another test in a week and if still no and no sign of period go to docs for blood test to find out what is up .good luck xx
I was due to get my shot July 6 2010 and also have no sign of a period. I've been taking monthly pregnancy tests just to be sure, and I'm definitely not pregnant. I read on a depo website that it takes the "average" woman 3-6 months to get it back.
Well i was on the shot for 10 months i missd my shot for this month becuz my husband wants to have a baby but anyway i had my period for like 3weeks after and it stoppd so is that my body tryn 2 get back 2 normal or what? and about that brownish wet stuff its a period i know it looks wrong but hey it happend 2 me 2
I have been on the Depo since 1998. I took 2 breaks in that time. The first break was maybe 6 months in which no cycle had come. The second break I waited for the cycle which came after one year. Within that same year of evaluating that it would take one year for the cycle to come back I went back on the Depo and finally in 2010 decided to quit it for good to let my body go completely back to normal. It has been a little over one year and still no cycle. So if it has not come back in another year I will really start getting worried but maximum time I will wait before I know for sure something is truly wrong with me is if I have reached the third year off Depo and still nothing. Women are having babies much later in life so I wouldn't panic too much about having a baby later on in life except for the anxious feeling of wanting to experience it now. Everyone's body is different. Like for instance a year off Depo hasn't given me back my cycle yet but I can tell things are changing and trying to revert back to normal. My breasts are extremely tender around a certain time of month. I am also exhausted and achey around that time. Liquids are thin as if to make it easy to conceive. I feel the reproductive system aches and cramps. I spot sometimes very lightly. So far just light, annoying spotting from time to time and not every month but it seems like the only thing that hasn't happened is a normal cycle. So I know it's on the way. I would like to say, before you mess yourself up more with chemicals and hormones trying to rush your body back to normal, I would say give your body some time to do things on its own first. I would say wait three years max if you are not in a big rush to get pregnant and if you have that kind of time. If you are not having some real emergency to get pregnant right now, I would say try and give your body some time...even if you are anxious to be pregnant. Nature has a way of working things out on its own but if you don't get any results within three years....I would say something truly is wrong and the body may need some assistance. Long term exposure to Depo does mess us up to some degree...I agree... but our bodies are devinely made and we should give it the benefit of the doubt before making things possibly worse assuming our bodies need help when it could be well on its way already. Three years max is the longest I would wait for a non-emergency. Meanwhile I will just do healthy things like taking the Women's One A Day vitamins or I heard taking Prenatal Vitamins is good too. Not both...lol. One or the other and eat something before taking these vitamins because you may throw up if you don't have food in your stomach first. Drink water, natural juices, eat healthy things and all things in moderation. Don't torture yourself with crazy diets but just include good things in your diet and eat only until you are satisfied. Don't eat too late at night. Drink water late at night but if you must eat then make it something light like grapes or popcorn. The body needs to rest at night instead of working all night to digest food eaten late at night. Exercise is good even if it is just walking. I just walk one mile out and one mile back. Really it is not that far. I just go at my own pace and stretch the muscles you work after exercise. Try to quit smoking if you smoke. Go at your pace and seek assistance because I can imagine that is easier said than done as well as with drinking too much caffeine. Okay I will stop here. With all this I said here, it was because I too am trying to get my natural rythm back again. I pray us all our wholeness and well-being...both physical and spiritual.
I was on the depo for about 2 years and I was only 16 when my doctor put me on it for medical reasons. My last shot was in the middle of October 2010 and I still haven't had a period or even spotting... should I be concerned? My doctor didn't tell me all the side effects and risks when she put me on it and I have learned since that teens are recommended not to take it...what should I do?
I was suppose to get the shot the 1st of November but missed it...is it okay if I dont get my period right away.. I haven't taken a pregnancy test but I don't think Im pregnant.. should I be worried if I haven't gotten it its been two weeks since I went off it?
Hi im 18 and been on depo for 3years faithfully and started spotting for 3weeks and yest started my period. I was supposed to get my shot the day before thanksgiving but didnt get it. Idk whats going on but i thought it takes forever for your period to come back on. Please help and p.s i forgot how an period feels and i feel miserable lol!!
I was on the depo for 3 months.I got off on nov 4th.I had a period in the beginning of december. Now its febuary and I don't have one this month. And didn't last month. But I have a brown light blooded discharge.I don't know what it is and I don't have any stds. But hearing all these depo stories makes me think I can't be pregnant even though its not normal.
I was on depo for 9 months and a week after i got off it i went to mirena i got that out a few weeks later not a good time for me lol i got my period 2 days later and bleed horribly on and off for 4 months im 2 months late on my period so either im pregnant or still getting use to not being on the depo shot which most doctors say is not normal its more likely to bleed it all out soo not sure if i helped anyone for future references :)
I was on the depo 4 years ago and only had to shots I fell pregnant in two months iv recently been on it for just over a year. Will it take me longer to get pregnant this time round as iv been on it longer?
I was on depo shot for 5yrs straight(now22) due to prolonged peroids lasting weeks to months and eventuall leading to an iron infusion which was why I was on it so long. I am now off. Got off last july and it took me 11 months to start them back.
I had the depo shot about 3 yrs ago for 1 yr & still have not had a period! It's been a little over 2 1/2 yrs stinker I have had ANY cycle. I am 23 yrs old. Starting to get VERY worried about my body. I also do not CURRENTLY have health insurance. Any suggestions on natural things to help? I have been researching like crazy. I have an Appt with a dr coming up that I am paying out of pocket for.
I was on Depo for 7-8 years
Recently got off on feb 23 16, within a week I had spotting and now 2 1/2 weeks later I'm bleeding. Bleeding is constant, tho heaviness is irregular. Depends on the women. I seriously think dietary habits play a role in how soon you see a period as my diet is extremely clean(fruits, veggies, protein)
Was on depo for three yrs. Got of this past Feb. Been having cramping but no period and breast tenderness. Is this normal after getting off depo? And how long on average does it take to start your period back up?
