Ovarian Cyst-Scared

I am 45 years old and a breast cancer survivor and just recently during my yearly pap, I requested a vaginal ultrasound (for sanity reasons) because I know there is a breast cancer/ovarian cancer connection.  I really didn't expect them to see anything out of the ordinary but wanted to check to be safe.  There is no breast cancer or ovarian cancer in my family.  Well, my OBGYN said there is a Complex Corpus Luteum Cyst on my right ovary!  Now I am petrified that it is cancer.  He wants to repeat the ultrasound after my period and see if it goes away.  I can't help but worry myself to death!

Anyone else been in my shoes or know much or had a Corpus Luteum Cyst?  Can they really tell a good bit by an ultrasound as far as if it looks like something serious or not?

My obgyn said the only other way to really know what it is would be to go in and look at it during surgery with the laproscope.

Help and thanks for any advice.

I have just been diagnosed with a kiwi sized complex cyst on my right ovary, I am interested to see what happens please inform as soon as you know I am about a month out to find out what the problem is...but I did have my friend whom is a radiologist look at my ultra sound and he said it should be fine and is very common

Do you have an strange discharge and cramping after orgasm?

Thanks for your advice.  My Dr. called it a corpus luteum cyst and on the sheet for the diagnosis, he had written "complex".  Some places on the internet I find it called complex, but it is listed as a functional cyst.  From what I read and understand, when it becomes complex is when it can get filled with blood after ovulation and forms a complex cyst.  I just keep telling myself not to worry or think about it until I go back to see him next week and hopefully it will have shrunk or gone away.  I know they can only tell so much from the ultrasounds though.

Thanks for your help.

well.. the question is wether it is a complex or simple cyst.  if the dr. wants to wait for your next cycle then i think it would be a simple cyst.  they come and go.  very normal.  i hope this put your mind at ease

let us know how it is going

thanks
