Ovarian Cyst

HELLO
I was diagnosed with ovarian cyst 7 konths ago and the doctor advised that it will go away on its own. I feel some pains when menstruating and ovulating. How long does the cyst takes to go away.should I get operation to remove the ovary..im really scared.

I agree that watchful waiting over surgery is better. However, if the cyst gets too large (I think they say over 7cm or so), you run the risk of ovarian torsion which cuts off the blood supply to the ovary which is very painful and can cause the ovary to die.

Have you had an ultrasound recently to check on the size of the cyst?

If you do end up needing surgery, it is best to have a surgeon who does a lot of cystectomies. That will give you a better chance of losing the cyst but keeping the ovary and all its important functions of not only fertility but also hormone production into your 80's which is essential to every aspect of health. It seems many "run of the mill" ob/gyns will take the easy surgical route and remove the whole ovary.

Hi there.  Welcome. Well, that would be different in every case. I had this too and  it took several months.  it was a heavy, painful period like experience when it passed with bad cramping.  (not horrible like I couldn't endure it but worse than an average period).  if you are concerned that it is still there, then speak to your doctor again.  But you want it to pass on its own verses having surgery.  surgery is always more complicated.  good luck
