Ovarian Cysts in 9-year old?

This is a strange one. My 9- year old has had abdominal pain since around Thanksgiving. Has been to Dr. for blood work, wrine, x-rays, tests for Crohn's and Celiac's Diseases, appendicitus..the works. Finally, had an ultrasound and they found cysts on both ovaries. She is in chronic pain daily. Popping Aleves 2-3 times a day as instructed by Dr. They say there is nothing to do but wait until next period(January was her 1st one)hope they dissolve on their own and repeat ultrasound to check. If not. they will refer her to an adolesceny GYN.  I AM SO STRESSED OVER THIS. Is the chronic daily pain normal. Anyone ever experienced cysts to this degree? Help... I am desperate for answers or just a little consulation!!!!

Too weird - My 9 year old daughter just had a sonogram done requested by her doctor because of adominal/pelvic pain.  Just got results yesterday, and she has a cyst on her left ovary.  I was told to treat her pain, which she complains often of especially on her sides and lower stomach area with advil and that it should disolve.  My 9 year old has not menstrated yet, & I was wondering if this could be a sign of that?
I'm obviously going to monitor her, and should her pain continue for the next few weeks I will be getting a 2nd opinion.
I have had a cyst on my ovary, but I was in my late 20's.  This is such a young age, and I never would have thought something like this would happen.

My daughter is 10 years old and was diagnosed with ovarian cyst. She has not started  her cycle at this time or showing any signs that she is close to starting. She went to a surgeon for possible appendicitis. They found the cyst after doing a ultrasound. They are just going to monitor her for now. She has abd pain daily. I comes in waves. My other daughter is 16 and suffers with ovarian cyst 2 weeks out of the month.

don't let the doctor push this off too much.  pediatric cysts are usually benign, but they still need to be monitored.  has she seen a GYN yet?  i'd also worry about the amount of aleve or any pain reliever such as tylenol or motrin that she's taking, especially since she's so young.  my dd has a friend who took quite a bit - following her doctor's instructions - for an ankle problem she was having.  now she has to have her liver function monitored because she overloaded it!  good luck :)

i have an ovarian cyst now that i am waiting to go and do a cat scan on and after that, i will have to remove my right ovary cause my cyst is complex and its the size of a golfball. i am 26 years old. i have alot of bloating, gas, somtiems nausia, and i am constantly exhausted. but for the pain, its not all the time. sometimes, it hurts a bit but something that i can easily bare. ovarian cysts are more common for women between the ages of 50-70 . so she is so young. is there others in your family who have had it too? hopefully, it will go away on its own. i dont know what advice to give you cause i am confused too. if you read my other questions on this page, you'd know. good luck and hope everything goes well.

Also, I had a lot of trouble with cysts in my early 20s.  They always put me on birth control pills to dissolve them.  Don't really know if that would be an option for a child this young though??  I wasn't sexually active when I was on the pills, they were strictly given to me to dissolve the cysts.  Mostly they worked.  The last ones I had did have to be drained.  They wouldn't dissolve.  I also don't remember being in chronic daily pain.  But, with her being so young, perhaps her size has something to do with that???  I'm grasping here, but I mean, it makes sense to me.  She doesn't have much room in there AT ALL right now for what is supposed to be there.  Now she has a cyst in there too...

I have no idea, I've even heard of anyone having ovarian cysts that young.  But, I believe if it were my child and she were in that much pain, I would try to get a second opinion.  Or get her in to see a specialist without a referal if it is possible, although I believe most insurance companies require a referal.  Maybe call your doctor back and explain that you would rather go on and see specialist now and not wait, due to the amount of pain she is in daily?  Best of luck to her, and you too.  Worrying over your child is one of the worst things in the world.  Especially when they are in pain and you can't stop it.  Sometimes being "mom" is REALLY hard, huh?  Take care of yourself and your daughter...LOL

I was 12 when I was first treated for abdominal pain a d ovarian cyst with pain medication. By 15 I was on Depo Vera to stop my cycles in an effort to prevent the cyst. This did not work for me. I have problems till this day. I hope you are able to find someone to take the proper timeand care to help your baby girl. Also, don't let anyone tell you (docs-nurses) that it is in her head.
