Hey,
I'm 19 years old and had a dermoid a bit smaller than yours removed from my left ovary. I had it removed via laparoscopic surgery, I went in at 12pm, had surgery at 2pm and was out of the hospital around 6 or 7pm I believe. I don't remember much from the day of surgery, but afterwards I remember the gas being the worst by far. I also consider myself as to having a high pain tolerance, I took pain pills for the first couple of days, and spent most of my time sleeping on the couch. I think it was 3 days after surgery I was able to walk up a couple of steps and a week or so after I was able to drive myself to school. My understanding of what a dermoid is, is an egg that fertalized itself. It can contain, skin, teeth, fat, hair, and bone. My gyno recommended getting it out because the longer it is in, the higher risk of it twisting the tube or rupturing spilling whatever it is filled with into your abdominal cavity. And they will never go away, only get bigger. 98% of dermoids are not cancerous, so just relax. I found that taking a bath or using a heating pad and extra strength tylenol helped for the pain before the surgery. This was my first surgery, and it really was not a big deal. I hope everything works out for you. If you have any more questions feel free to ask =)
