Ovarian cysts. Is this normal?

by chelemybelle, Jun 14, 2007 12:00AM
I was recently diagnosised with having 2 ovarian cyst (through ultrasound).  1 measured 5.7cm in diameter and the other 4.2cm.  The larger one appeared to be a "chocolate" cyst, the other they were unable to determine.  I have a Pelvic MRI scheduled, which will hopefully tell us more.
Background: about 6 months ago I started gaining weight and having irregular periods. I also was having frequent pain in the lower left of my abdomen. (Not always during my period).  I'm 31 almost 32. I have had 3 children (by c-section).
My question is this: I've noticed that I have seemed to have more and more problems with my digestive tract...diarrhea, sometimes constipation (each can go on for a few days).  Can the cyst be a cause of this?
Also, will flying be dangerous to my health (could this cause the cyst to "burst")?
I also have an appointment with another gynocologist for a 2nd opinion on July 9th.
Until the MRI results are back and I go to the other doctor, I would like to know things I should be looking for that could be a result of the cyst so that I can tell the doctor. I don't want to be Overboard, but even the smallest symptom might help them determine the best solution.
My 1st option (by 1st dr.) was a complete hysterctomy. And, because of my prior c-sections I would have to have the full abdomonal surgery.

I know what you are going through. I am 21 and about 6 years ago when I was 16 I was told that I have a ovarian cyst. I had been getting my period every other week and I seemed to have gained a few pounds but at that age that is normal. I finally told my mom I needed to see a gyn to find out why I was having such frequent periods. Well 6 months later I had a laberscoptomy (prob. spelled wrong) and come to find out I had a cyst the size of a grapefruit so you figure 3-4 inches in diam. (I am a small girl so alot of people were shocked that you couldn't see it. But I am now prone to getting these guys again so i have to take the pill to prevent them... About your plane ride I would ask a doctor I can't help you there... You'll be ok I was scaried but everything came out ok, now I am not sure what a chocolate cyst so i again can't help ya. Also, if you get a laberscoptomy... be prepared to be in pain for a few days, it hurts after wards.    Good luck and I'm sure all is well!!

you think that is bad, i had to have a cyst( and right ovary)  removed at the age of 3. it was the size of the doctors hand. i also married into a Catholic family and trying to go by their ways, hence no birth control( corse dont want any, hopeing for a baby) i have an app. in july also trying to see if there is anything they can do for the cysts i know have that wont hurt the chances of having a baby.. let me know how your app. goes, maybe we can share notes.. :)

They can cause constipation by obstructing the bowl, and constipation could cause diarrhea, which could explain your symptoms. When I had a cyst earlier this month, I also had a problem with peeing. I never felt like I had to go, I just new I had to go because the pain would get worse and I could fell pressure where my kidney is on the side where the cyst was.
