Pain after hysterectomy

by desiremullen, Mar 12, 2007 12:00AM
I had a hysterectomy in 2004. I have had several problems since then. I still have monthly menstrual cycles regulary. They never stopped. I still have my ovaries and cervix. I have been experiencing pelvic pain for a while. My doctor sent me for an ultrasound and these are the findings. Transabdominal and endovaginal pelvic sonogram are performed. The uterus is anteverted and measures 3x7.5 cm in diameter. the endometrial echo measures 1.4 mm anterior posteriorly. There is no sign of intrauterine gestation or sac. There is a marked amount of free fluid in the pelvic cavity. A 1x1.4 cm hypodese nodule is visualized at the posterior aspect of the unterine fundus, representing a fibroid. There is also a cystic structure measuring approximately 7mm in diameter at the cervical area, probably representing a nabothian cyst. There are follicles in both ovaries. Impression: Pelvic Fluid. 7mm diameter nabothian cyst. 1x1.5 cm fibroid. Now my doctor told me that the ultrasound tech report was wrong because I have no uterus due to a hysterectomy and not to worry about the fibroid because it is normal. my question is this: Why would an ultrasound tech take measurements of a uterus if there isn't one. She specifically told me that she could tell where I still had half of my uterus. If I am having pain why would my doctor tell me there is nothing to worry about. He didn't even order another ultrasound am I overeacting? I feel like I should get a second opinion. Please help me understand this ultrasound report because my doctor was no help.

Man, I would demand someone else read those films.  It's possible you have an ovarian cyst that could be causing you pain too.  Please request a re-read, the tech obviously measured "something" in there.  Did they tell you why you had fluid as well?

I am totally confused....you had an hysterectomy but still had a uterus in your us?

No, my doctor never did say what the fluid was.

I'm just as confused as you are. Now you see why I said I need to get second opinion. Either the ultrasound technician didn't know what she was doing which I find strange since that is her field of expertise. or something is not right.

I think you need another us and a complete review by another doc of your surgery records.
