About two days ago I noticed a pea-sized, hard lump about 3/4 - 1 inch above my clitoris and to the left, almost right in the crease. It's painful when touched, a reddish purple color, and when I trie to determine if it was an ingrown hair or something else, it felt like a whole ball type thing was under my skin instead of just on the top area like a pimple. I haven't shaved recently and it's not white at the top either. There's hair around it but not directly on top. I'd like to save a trip to the doctor if I don't have to, money is tight. It showed up about the time I started my monthly, in case that makes a difference. Any suggestions or ideas of what it might be?
Well, without a clinical evaluation it would be difficult to determine the cause of your symptoms. Possibilities that may need to be considered include folliculitis, cysts, ingrown hair, abscess etc. You could try using an antibiotic ointment such as clindamycin over it and see if this seems to help. If you do not notice any improvement, I would suggest getting this evaluated by a primary care physician or a dermatologist for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate management.
Hope this helps.
