Pap abnormal resut

My pap as resulted in abnormal. I'm told dont worry and re test in 6 months. The results read Epithelial Cell Abnormality/Atypical Synamous cell of undertermined significane (ASC-US)
I'm 37 not children and never had an abnormal reading. I'm very worried. Within 4 months I stopped using birth control pills. I have used them since I was 16. Will this have any reasons ??? Please help with possible answers.. I'm really not ok waiting 6 months.
Thanks You

I second this..if you don't clearly understand the results, MAKE your doctor explain them to you. They can't just leave you hanging like that. Personally, I had a few abnormal paps (mostly because I had a bacterial infection), and one of them turned out to be low grade pre cancerous. I had a VERY small lesion removed from my cervix, and I haven't had an abnormal pap since. So anyway, I would recommend that you ask your doctor to further explain this result.

Gatorfrog is right. I would get another opinion.....although sometimes you can get a normal pap right after an abnormal one because they might get their sample on another area of your crevix. Did they explain to you in terms you could understand what the result meant? I would call the doc and have them explain what the result meant in terms you could understand. You have a right to be worried if you're not sure what it is. You don't need to be sitting and worrying for six months...that's too much for anyone to take.

I don't have experience in this area, but I would not be ok waiting 6 months either. Did you also post on the doctors forum - do that and see what they say. I would go for a second opinion personally. Good luck
