Pelvic/groin pain on left side, brown discharge and back pain

Hi for about 2 weeks now I have been experiencing someproblems.  About the time for period to start i noticed some brown discharge then it went to red and now back to brown but very little.  I also have sever pelvic/groin pain on my left side that comes and goes.  I feel swollen on that side and have lower back pain.  Yesterday I got dizzy but wasnt sure if it was coming from any of these problems.  I did have a minor abnormal pap smear last month but havent gone yet to get a colposcopy due to the fact that I also had a sever infection from my wisdom teeth and needed to be on antibiotics and make an appt to have them taken out.  I go oct. 7 to have my teeth out and then I am planning to see the dr. for the colposcopy that he wants done.  I am just wondering if anyone has ever had these problems and I am married (for 2 years) and have been loyal to my husband.  Every where I look these symptoms point to std's but I have had a baby with my husband and had a pap test 6 weeks after I had the baby and that was fine.  If i do have a std how didi I get it?  I know my husband has been loyal also and why wouldnt it have shown up before on a pap if I had it or he had it before we were togehter?  Sorry this is so much info.  Just trying to get some idea before i do go to the dr. thank you

I have those exact symptoms. I went to the doctors to get my yearly, and they told me i had an abnormal pap. So I did go ahead and get my colposcopy done, they said i have pre cancerous cells on my cervix..after they were done they said i would have a light period that would be a dark brown/red discharge, but it wouldnt last very long. Well its been 2 months now and my periods are exactly like that. My regular periods are usually quite heavy and last for 7 days or more. These last maybe 2 days. Also i am experiencing back pains, but on my left side mostly along with cramping(or what seems like) on my left side. Friends and Family have said that I am getting a little chunky but i wonder if thats just because i just got married and were getting comfortable around each other. my breasts always seem tender, and i wonder if thats do to the irregular periods that i get. that come whenever? so i dont know whats wrong with me either?

My understanding is that the brown discharge is PROBABLY just old blood, and your body needs to get rid of it. It's shedding the lining of your uterus and any old blood retained from your last period. I agree it is an unexpected surprise, when you expect to see red. You need to check and be sure there is not an offensive odor from it (eg smell that resembles an infection, poop or anything that is blatantly stinky). If there is an odor you need to notify your OB/GYN right away, and check for a fever.

1) In rare circumstances you may have a fistula (canal that forms between the intestine/colon and the uterus); this would cause small amount of poop to be expelled into the vagina, and can cause a serious infection if not addressed in a timely manner.

2) Dark brown mucous during your period may indicate that you have a "tilted" or Retroverted Uterus (Google it for a picture). If so, this may cause you to retain some menstrual blood, or cause it to flow backward (Retrograde Menstruation). When blood is old, it loses it's hemoglobin and turns brown. It can be old blood from your last period, or the lining of your uterus at the end of your normal period. It is not all that uncommon to shed old blood/brown mucous during a period. Just make sure your OB/GYN is made aware.

Retrograde Menstruation can allow back-flow of the uterine lining or blood to leak out of the uterus and attach to the outside of it. This can cause the formation of endometriosis (aka scar tissue), and lead to considerable abdominal pain. The pain can be any time during the month, and can be very bad during menstruation, sex or bowel movements.

Good luck!

Hi I am 32 years old and i too have experienced pelvic pain. I have since i was 21 and untrasound, colonoscopy and any other exam or test you can think of was done. All test came up clear. I am having a tough time getting a proper diagnois and I am still having problems. I have always had abnormal cells and my pap are never normal except for one time. I pray when i go back this pap will also be normal.

Hi,
When did you have your last ultrasound and was it a transvaginal ultrasound ? Im asking this because I have had fibroids in my uterus and endometriosis and they can cause the symptoms you describe .With endometriosis it is very common to develop cysts and these can cause a lot of pelvic and back pain . The brown blood is just old blood and is nothing to worry about in its self. If I were you I would go back to the doctor and ask if you can have another us if the last one was a couple of months ago , you need to have an answer as to what is causing these problems so keep going back to the doctor until you do . Good luck and let us know how you get on .

   Take care Angie

yes.. i also have been experiencing brown blood for about 6 months.
For about a month now Ive had CONTINUOUS aweful back pain.
Ive had an ovarian cyst 2 years ago but without these symptoms... at the time I only had severe abdominal pain that came suddenly and i was rushed to the emergency room. This is different.
I am due for my GYN appointment but ive gotten my period 8 days early ( im usually not regular anyway).
It seems that my menstrual blood lingers inside and gets "old".  My periods start with brown blood, then sometime during the first 24 hours of my period the blood is red.. but only for a few hours.  It takes about a week after my period to finally get rid of the "old" blood.
And my menstrual cycles  have only been lasting 1-2 days then begins the brown old blood for a week.
Ive also been suffering  from breathing problems for about a year but my doctor said thats probably some kind of allergy.

Altho my cycle last month lasted 4 days, it came back 4 days later  full-blown for 2 more days.. followed by the old brown blood .

I also have had the brown discharge but I get it after my periods.  First off my periods have been heavier than ever in my life.  I noticed that every other month I get the pain on my lower left side.  It gets extrememly bad and I have to hunch over or walk while bent over.  It is like a throbbing pain that starts and stops but there is always a dull ache.  I did just get a pap also after I couldn't get my old doctor to give me one I switched doctors.  Now this one did one and It came out that I had atypical cells.  Now I am worried because my mother had cervical cancer and went through treatments for 4 years.  If anyone else has some info please let us know what we should be looking at here.

Could be an ovarian cyst, that would hurt only on one side. Get an ultrasound done by your doctor why you are there too, or have them order one, that should tell you. Those are not caused by sexual activity. Also, could you be pregnant? It MAY be an ectopic pregnancy, have your doc do a blood test on that also. God bless, and let us know!!!
