Period for 45 days-hormone imbalance-how long for birth control to work
Hello-

I am having some issues with my period-been bleeding for over 45 days.  Some days its light, some days its heavy.  Have an Appt next month with gyn but saw my normal GP.  Felt it was stress related hormone imbalance.  She gave me birth control pills to stop the bleeding and regulate my hormones.  I have taken 13 pills (one each day) so far  and still bleeding...how long does it take birth control pills to work--taking tri-sprintec 28 day

Hello,
Such continuous spotting/ bleeding can be due to menorrhagia. Causes of menorrhagia are Hypothyroidism, Endometrial proliferation or hyperplasia like ovarian tumor and polycystic ovarian disease, endometrial polyps and neoplasia, endometriosis, fibroids and uterine sarcomas.

In my opinion you need to get your pelvic examination done from your gynecologist along with investigations like complete blood count, thyroid function tests,PAP smear and ultrasound uterus.Once cause of menorrhagia is identified, treatment can be planned.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
