Please help! Yeast that won't go away???

I went to my primary physician who specializes in women's health in December 2009 for my pap smear. When she was looking inside my vagina, she said that there's some yeast in there and showed me the cheesy like substance. She then prescribed me one dose of Diflucan. A week passed and I was still having discharge and a little bit of itchiness so I bought the generic Monistat otc. That seemed to have worked. A month later, I noticed that there was some slight itching in my labia minora and noticed a slight discharge as well. The discharge is your usual thick, lumpy, white discharge. There's no odor or burning, only the discharge and slight itching. I went back to my doctor's office and this time I was prescribed another dose of Diflucan and 5 doses of Metronidazole. I was advised to take them all at the same time.  It's been about 4 days since I took the prescriptions but I am still having some discharge. My PAP came back normal but the doctor advised me that there was no yeast infection detected. I asked her how is that so if she saw that there was yeast in there? She said that it's because the amount was minute that it probably just didn't get picked up.  I was also tested for all STD'S including HPV, HIV, Herpes, Trach, Gonorrhea, Chlamydia and everything's negative. I am not diabetic. I also did my annual check up including my Pelvic and Abdomen ultrasound last month and everything is fine. What is going on? Why are the meds taking so long to work? Should I give it a few more days for the meds to work?  My fear is that the meds aren't even working. I don't know what else to do. Any ideas?

Thank you,
Desperat3

Have you tried taking a cinnamon supplement?  I have been reading that it helps combat yeast infections that are resistent to antibiotics and other treatments.

Try taking this to your doctor:

It goes over several similar issues and how to tell the difference between them.

go to the store and get any plain yogurt, doesn't matter the brand or kind, get u some tampons and go home and dip the tampon in the yogurt, make sure u get plenty of yogurt on the tampon and place it in u and leave it it for a few hours at a time unless u need to change it out, put a fresh 1 in the morning and before bed, during the day do what u can, make sure u have the yogurt in the fridge and don't eat it, the active cultures in the yogurt will help u a lot, do it for as long as u want but not too long, the coolness of yogurt helps also, it works!

I was a victim of yeast. The yeast would come and go. The way you have explained is exactly how i used to feel. I was given FLUCONAZOLE by a Doctor just a single dose thats what changed my story. I was also advised to wear loose cotton under wear so to allow fresh air. The other thing that brings yeast is the bathing soap. How do you bath? do you run water in a bath tub and sit in that water? if that is the case you will sit in that soapy water that soapy water will cause that problem. Sometimes in the bubble bath.
