The pill is no less effective when you are on your period. You release your egg in the middle of your cycle, this is when you become fertile. You may notice a mucous discharge around this time. You are most fertile for a few days when your egg has just been released.
It is very unlikely that you can become pregnant whilst on the pill and during your period.
