Pregnant or Not Pregnant? Please Help

Hi everyone, My period was due April 22nd. It's now 4 days late. I'm not sure what sort of pregnancy signs I should be having. I have never been pregnant before. The only thing is that my boobs are sore as hell. especially the nipple area and on the sides by my arms. they also feel heavier than usual. Is this a pregnancy sign??? I've heard that women usually vomit and gag and that this is the obvious sign of pregnancy. But I don't have this sign.

Yes, it could be pregnancy sign or it can also be af sign.  To find out if you are pregnant or not, take a home pregnancy test.

hi, its too early for you to test the hpt, u might have to go more weeks, because iam almost 7 weeks of the last day of my period, but still negative preganancy test, so if i were you, u wait more weeks, today iam going to the doctor appointment will see if iam pregnant.

I disagree with the above poster.  If you are pregnant, your body should produce enough HCG to show a positive on a HPT.  Of course, it's not 100% gaurantee.  If you are at 7 weeks and no period and no BFP, then there could be some other medical reasons for af not showing up.  Of course, a blood test will reveal the truth.  IN GENERAL, you should be able to test with an accurate result.

Another reaosn not to wait is if you are preggo, you need to get prenatal care right away and start taking prenatal vitamins.  This is not something you want to find out weeks after you suspect your pregnancy.

I agree with dollchina.  I was only a week late when I tested and I got the results in a flash on an hpt.  I took one test in the afternoon and another when i first woke up the next morning just in case. Both were positive. Also, you can buy prenatal vitamins over the counter now and if you can't find them, the Dr. told me to take Flinstone vitamins with iron.  (and they taste yummy!!)

I agree, you should get an accurate result with a HPT now. Take one and if it is negative then you can wait and test again or go to the doctor to get a blood test done.

I would wait but not too long...if you test again and its still negative and still no AF go get blood work done.  Waiting 7 weeks its too long...if you are pregnant you need prenatal care and it is most important to take your prenatal vitamins in the first 3 months because this is when they help the most.

It is puzzling to me how a woman can be three months pg, testing frequently and not show a +. you body HAS to produce hcg to sustain a pregnancy, no if's and's or but's about it. Once the egg implants, it starts producing hcg. A pregnancy absolutely cannot progress or develop without it. Something seems off about all of this.

No, not when it comes to being pregnant and hcg production. You absolutel;y have to produce HCG to sustain a pregnancy, it isn't a matter of different pg symptoms, it is a matter of fact. A woman simply cannot have a pregnancy sustained without producing hcg.

ummm andi?... i dont see where any of us had said that we dont need to produce hcg... every woman is different as far as the level of hcg in a pregnancy, it depends on their cycle and conception... the latest ive ever heard of it not getting a positive on a test is someone being 4 weeks past due date for period... Not everyone can test and get the right answer 4 days b4 missed period.. and some of us wait 3 - 4 weeks before getting a positive pregnancy test.. so therefore i said nothing about not having hcg, just saying different women have different levels at different times. Ive been pregnant 3 times and everytime i was , was different times getting a positive...

All I am saying is if your period is late and your cycles are regular, you will get a positive on a pregnancy test if you are indeed pregnant. I feel awful for you ladies in limbo on this, I really do. But at some point you have to think "hmmm, my period is 2 weeks late, I have taken 10 tests a day all saying negative, even bloodwork has said negative, maybe I am not pregnant" It sucks, I know it sucks. I have been pregnant 8 times, lost 5 of those to first trimester losses, I know what it is like to want to be pg. But I also know that the longer you dwell on a negative result, the more time goes by without seeking treatment for the cause of the delayed af.

look i have just been reading all of ur comments, i am late with my period and have had negative urine test and blood test and my doctor told me if u have come off the pill it takes about 6 months for it to wear off and that ur body is starting to produce hormone natually and that it may take some time for u to become pg, i was hoping that i was and looking forward to it, but then she said that other factor may come in to it as well like stress or some other problem, but i say when ur body is ready then u will become pregnant, don't stress over it cause it will happen, otherwise get a full check up to make sure something isn't wrong.

Hi, temps have triphasic trend this month, from temps, looks like implantation occured on 9 May.  Now 13 dpo, 4 days after implantation - just took hpt, expecting to see a BFP, but hpt had a very very faint positive result.  Not sure what to think.  Comments anyone?

Hi Everyone, I'm new to this thread but have been following for a while in the hopes of getting some good advice and reading all your stories really does help so much. I'd like to share a little of my story with you.  DH and I have been TTC for 2 years.  I am currently at day 50 of my cycle (7 weeks since LMP).  Was absolutely sure last week that I had to be pg cos have been having sore boobs for about 3 weeks now (pms should not last longer than 2) and have the whole nausea/mild cramping/headaches/dizzyness/frequent urination...pretty much any PMS/Pregnancy symptoms.  So.  I did two HPT's tests, the first at 5 1/2 weeks BFN the second at 6 weeks BFN.  So I thought ok, HPTs are not 100% reliable (I have a friend who did not test + until 7 weeks) so went to Doc for blood test at 6 1/2 weeks.  Again BFN.  So today I went back to Doc to find out what the heck is going on.  He said there is poss of false neg blood test, however heres what we'll do: he put me on progeserone tabs, 1 a day for 1 week.  Progesterone is what starts menstruation after ovulation.  If a womans progesterone lvls are too low then she will not menstruate until lvls are high enough.  Progesterone is also GOOD for pregnancy.  My first question to the Doc was if by some wacked out chance I am actually pg, will taking this hurt my baby?  He told me that years ago they used to give progesterone to women who were at risk of miscarriage, so no it wont do any harm.  So at the end of my long story, I'm going to take these tablets.  If after a week I do not get my period then I am most likely pregnant.  I just wanted to share that with you girls who like me are seeking answers.  All I'm suggesting is that you at least go and talk to to your Doctors and ask them about progesterone tablets...the way I see it you have nothing to lose.  I'll let you know the outcome in about a week.  Hopefully my story can help some of you like yours have helped me.

My lmp was on April 17.And now I am 1 week late. I have taken 3 HPT and all negative and also I have had a blood test done and also negative. But I have never been late before and the month that my Husband and I start trying I am late. Has this happened to anyone esle and they ended up being pregnant?

I know a girl who had an ectopic pregnancy (when the embryo implants in the filopian tube) she bled for 2 weeks straight before she went to her doctor, and the pregnancy was only confirmed by blood test, as HCG is not absorbed as much by the body when the embryo is outside the uterus.  She thought it was her period at first until it wouldn't stop. If you suspect you have an ectopic pregnancy dont delay, go to a doctor, it is very dangerous, your life is at risk.  Good luck.

Hi again, as promised I am back with an update.  Well after 6 days of taking Provera (progesterone) I have got my Period.  Tomorrow it will have been 8 weeks since my lmp.  The truth of the matter is, if I was pregnant, then I would not have got my period.  So I am relieved.  Eventhough I really really want a baby, I can handle not being pregnant when I get my AF after 32 days (which is normal for me) but what I cant handle is being 4 weeks late, getting negative blood and urine tests, and no sign of AF, but all the pg symptoms under the sun - which were probably all pms in hindsight.  My doctor says it is really really common for women to miss a period every now and then and actually said that 8 weeks is nothing, its when it becomes months that is the issue (easy to say I know when we are the ones going through the am I/aren't I wait...very frustrating and feeling like a total idiot when you go to the doctor saying "I think I'm pregnant" only to get a BFN).  So if  I can give some advice, if your AF is starting to become weeks late and you are testing negative, i'm not saying to give up hope, but talk to your doctors about the hormone progesterone.  If you really are pregnant then you will not get a period, and like I said in my last posting it is not harmful to your baby, its actually beneficial for pregnancy.   To all the girls who are only a week late, sorry but its kinda too early to tell either way.  There is still hope for you,  I do know a girl who didn't test positive until 7 weeks, but if you get to that stage like me and are still testing neg both blood and HPT, then its time to start thinking about talking to a DR, because really, if you aren't pregnant, dont you want to get your AF out of the way so you can start trying again?  We only get 12 chances a year, and when this happens, thats one chance less in a year that we have.  Well for me its back to the drawing board.  Hopefully next month will bring some better luck.  Until next time, good luck to you all, I wish you all every success in your baby hopes xxx

Tell me about it!  We've been trying for 2 years now its hard not to cry out of frustration every time I get my period.  Can't be negative though, have to think positive thoughts... am trying to keep my chin up!  There are plenty of women who have been trying for a lot longer than me.  It just really sucks to be that late and not be pg. I guess there's always next month.

I am having some blood tests at the moment (day 5 and day 21 of my cycle) to make sure I am ovulating, I thought I have been using ovulation predictors, but apparently they can give you false readings.  AARGH!  My Hubby has had a couple of tests too, his swimmers are there, but the motility isn't great, so I think that is our main problem.  Doctors keep saying it shouldn't be a huge problem, will just take us a little longer than other couples, but how long is a "little longer"?  If these tests show that I am ovulating I think we will take the next step and go down the IVF path.

I have read alot on here about implantation bleeds, i have 2 kids already and with both pgs i KNEW i was pregnant and could not get a positive test for what seemed like forever.  I am now 4 days late but on the day i was due for my period i had one streak of reddish brown blood at bedtime called it good put a tampon in went to bed, woke up didnt look just procedure hurt like h#$! same thing later on in the day NO BLOOD  then on the 26th i had a small amount of browinsh blood and that was it. nothing since.  I never heard of such a thing until now. PT Test NEGATIVE,  I am frustrated, crying over commercials, moody and no PMS Funny thing is I got the IUD out in Jan because my husband wants a boy but i didnt want anymore so for him and his SEED (we have 2 girls) his family name is at sake,etc....  I agreed with a 6 month time span july 21st being the date for me to go get my iud back.  So i have been monitoring my ovulation days being sure that i didnt go near him around then, him knowing nothing of how it works, i know your thinking how mean is that but really this is a huge sacrifice on my part and i am so fertile it is unreal as is the rest of my family.  So he caught on and we had a long talk and i told him i would really try this last month and well i guess i just need confirmation and it is driving me nuts.  I am sorry for the long post but i had to vent somewhere.  I am also sorry if i offended anyone who is having a difficult time getting pregnant if i could share my fertility with you i would gladly pass it along.  Those of you with children know what it is like to have kids lets just say i wasnt raised in a home with alot of patience so it takes me twice the patience and i overanalyze myself as a parent so much that a third child seemed overwhelming.  Again sorry.

I took provera once a day for 10 days to induce a cycle, but about 3 days in I thought i was ovulating, had raised temp , all the signs but didn't do ovulation test. Continued with provera for 10 days, completed the course 6 days ago. Still have not had a period although some very light spotting happened about 2 days ago.
Could I be pregnant? Has anyone else ever not got a period after taking provera?

if you took provera and havent have period means you are pregnant, but u said u have spotting 2 days ago? and then what its nothing at all? call your doctor and ask about your spotting. then they will do blood test.



when i took provera in may 1, then may 13 i have period and it was sooooo heavy, i didnt feel any pain because my husband gave me acetaminophen and aspirin 325 mg . you must ask your doctor about the spotting..

hey iam 23 years old...my period was due yesterday..of course i got so parinod..so my boyfgried and i bought EPT..took it...and it cam up postive...hes's the one that took the test for me....he said he thinks he held it up too long...i am still in state of shock...we are going to take another one tonight...but do you know anyone that has taken the test and it came out wrong??? i am so scared...this wasnt even planned...he doesnt even remember cumming..we were so careful...

A false positive is a very rare thing.  I have done hundreds of pg tests for every month I tried to fall pg over last 2 years, and not so much as a faint line.  Holding it in urine for too long will not cause positive result, it measures the level of HGC in urine, and if it is not there then you could leave it in urine all day and you wont get a positive.  Sounds to me like you are pregnant, go to a doctor and take a blood test.  BTW the richest part of sperm is the very first bit which can come out before actual ejaculation.  This is why they say withdrawal method doesn't work.

Hi ! I have also been ttc for nearly 6 months now.I have very regular periods and also ovulate regularly.My gynac put me on clomid just to ensure proper ovulation.I wasn't able to conceive in my first cycle on clomid.This is my 2nd cycle and af is due in 5 days time.I have however started getting my usual pms symptoms like breast tenderness,bloating and pain in wrists.Can i still be hopeful of being pregnant?Is it possible to get pms and still be pregnant?

I wish I could give you a definate answer, but unfortunately I have never actually been pregnant myself.  I do know lots of people who have, and everyone has a different experience, but I do believe that PMS and PG symptoms are very similar, as they are both caused by the same hormones.  Do you chart your temps?  I didn't for a long time, but it's a real eye opener to see the changes your body goes through in a cycle.  Good luck!  I hope you are pg, keep us informed!

I do not chart my temperatures.I have some friends who have been pregnant....while some of them have had no symptoms at all b4 the missed period,there are some who have had pms like symptoms.Actually every month when i have pms like symptoms i live in the hope that i am pregnant but get frustrated to see af arriving.Last month,while on clomid,i was 2 days late but didn't work out finally as i had af arriving.i really hope this month i do not get to see af.Will have to wait for another 4 days and then will let u know for sure.

I'm about to start IVF, just got my AF yesterday..bang on time though I wasn't late.  This was the first month that I charted my temps, and the day my temp went down was the day I got my period, so I had an idea it was on its way.  My DH has a sperm motility problem, which is the main reason why it has already taken us 2 years and not one pregnancy.  I'm scared of IVF, sounds like alot to go through, but as soon as I get that positive pg test I know it will absolutely be worth it!

If your blood test is positive you are pregnant.  Follow your doctor's orders and rest your body.  Only time will tell if your pregnancy will grow stronger, but a positive test is exactly that, proof positve that you are pregnant.
