Tracy, try three things: use a small sized tampon, called "junior" or "lite," as they can be easier to insert, use a brand with an applicator (one brand even calls it "gentle glide applicator") if you are not, and put a little lubricant on the end of the tampon, such as KY Jelly or Vaseline (if you use Vaseline, get the kind that squirts out of a tube rather than the kind from a tub as it will be much more likely to be sanitary). You are trying to get past the hymen and the ring of muscles at the bottom of the vagina, once you do, the tampon cannot be felt when worn. If none of these things work, then it is possible your hymen is too much in the way. However, I have known many girls who use tampons while still virgins, and obviously the flow has to be able to get out, so the hymen is not always a problem. Good luck, honey. I think you'll be able to do it. Annie
Hi hun
Are you a virgin? It could be the hymen which is skin that covers part of the vagina. This skin as far as im aware gets broken by having first time sexual intercourse. Theres nothing wrong with you as it is the same for all females who are still virgins.
As far as im aware this doesnt usually affect using tampons but i must admit that i never used tampons at all until i had sex for the first time but i do know people who did use them before they were sexually active.
I would drop by to your local GP or nurse if you are worried.
Take care
