Prolonged Menstrual Bleeding When Routine Change

Hello, I'm a overweight 18 year old who has heavy menstrual bleeding. It sometimes feels endless. My periods are always normal until I commit to losing weight. When I exercise and actually watch what I'm eating and how much, my periods become heavier and longer to a point I can't function. My doctor says my irregular periods are normal because I am overweight. But my periods only seem to get exhausting when I'm losing weight.  Any other time I am completely fine. My period last from two weeks to over a whole month. Has anyone else has symptoms? Could this be anything serious?

Hello
When a person is trying to loose weight, it can sometimes upset your hormones, especially at your young age. Don't try to be too aggressive with the diet, in other words, don't try to loose too much at once, this might help. Just eat healthy, small meals and get plenty of exercise as well.
I also suggest  that you see a gyn and discuss this with him.

Obesity has a large hormonal component and is another cause of heavy bleeding. ( mainly due to occasional estrogen surges)
Look into changes in your endocrine system where fat from buttocks, thighs, stomach and abdomen makes androstenedione , which converts to estrogen, leading to
"estrogen dominance" (over progesterone).
If this is the case there's an easy fix:
Bio-identical Progesterone cream, however, details on how  to use this are very important to achieve desired results.
Let me know, if you're interested and I can look for my notes on this and send the pertinent information to you.
This will tie you in, until you normalize your weight by diet and exercise. make sure you are not overdoing it!
Easy does it. Stay consistent and also try to get all the essential nutrients your body needs.
Avoid junk foods, extreme dieting, overtraining
and aim to lose 1-2 lbs a week, no more!
As your weight goes down, your periods should start improving gradually, but if your symptoms haven't improved in a few weeks, you may want to consider a
Functional Medicine Doctor or Holistic Endocrinologist to
help you further.
Best wishes.
